What’s wrong with the word “Polack”? In Polish, the word, spelled “Polak,” means a Polish man (”Polka” is the female counterpart).

I have never understood why the word that means “Pole” in Polish is somehow an ethnic insult in English.

It’s as if Americans felt insulted if Swedes called us “Americans.”

HUH?
