Perhaps nothing is as sinister-looking as a sawed off shotgun, whose main mission in life is to inflict damage with a wide spray pattern of buckshot.
But three of these shotguns with shortened barrels and one sawed off .22-calber rifle were right out in the sunlight, laid side-by-side on a folding table during a gun buy-back conducted by the Bradenton Police Department.
When it was over, the department took 29 weapons off the street during its 2012 annual Father's Day Gun Buy-Back Program at two sites Sunday, said Sgt. Eddie Weldon of the Bradenton Police Department.
The department received 18 revolvers, including a .357-caliber Magnum by Smith & Wesson valued at around $400, a .38-caliber former police-issued gun and a .22-caliber handgun.
There were nine rifles received, including the three sawed-off weapons.
There were also two semi-automatic handguns turned in, including a Lorcin .380-cali
ber semi-automatic valued at about $500, which could fire eight or nine rounds with the magazine that came with it, Weldon said.
"Overall, I would say it was very successful," Weldon said of the buy-back.

One location had no guns turned in.
What were the rest?
LOL!!! Yeah right! LOL!!
Wow... Eric holder would be proud!
My only gun is a piece of junk (9mm semi) that I got in my 20’s... don’t really want it anymore (kids in my house, hasn’t been fired in 15 years.. and not expecting the inquisition).. Anyone recommend a good place to get rid of one besides wait for one of these programs?
Take it to any gunshop.
A Lorcin worth $500?
That, I would like to see.
What brand and model is it?
I think they meant $50 LOL
Hmm. The way that is stated, one must assume that the police sold those guns to the perps / people originally.
That doesn't seem right.
;-)
All firearms sales including private and gun show sales, transfers or loans, must go through a California licensed firearms dealer.
Nice!
Does it fire the 8-shot ring caps?
No it’s a 22.
A POS RG24
A gun shop or a want ad in the local paper would be a great place to find your gun a new home. Please avoid these gun grabs if possible.
If you would like, please post or PM me with the make and model and I will look up the current value for you in the Blue Book. Any gun shop will do this for you also.
He is in Ca.
Even private sales have to go though a licensed gun dealer.
Or, you could sell it on GunBroker.com
These insipid and stupid events always make me sick to my stomach. Pure liberal idiocy. The PD’s from the 1920’s thru the 1950’s had “gun buy-back” programs, they were secret hit squads directed specifically at the underground gangs and mobsters. Slaughter the gangs and confiscate the guns.
Civil liberties violations aside I would bet a lot of money that the PD’s back then had an infinitely more successful time getting guns off the streets with those directed programs and that was before there were any real 2nd amendment restrictions.
Heck, my PD still has guns from the 40’s and 50’s that were taken from (dead?) gangsters.
If police could be trusted to successfully target only those who need targeted much like in the 1920’s-1950’s we could have success today just like back then. However, there are too many stupid and affirmative action hires in law enforcement and the ACLU has designated the criminals as victims.
More info on Ca sales.
I want to sell a gun to another person, i.e., a private party transfer. Am I required to conduct the transaction through a licensed California firearms dealer?
Yes. Firearm sales must be conducted through a fully licensed California firearms dealer. Failure to do so is a violation of California law. The buyer (and seller, in the event that the; buyer is denied), must meet the normal firearm purchase and delivery requirements. “Antique firearms,” as defined in Section 921(a)(16) of Title 18 of the United States Code, and curio or relic rifles/shotguns, defined in Section 178.11 of Title 27 of the Code of Federal Regulations that are over 50 years old, are exempt from this requirement.
Firearms dealers are required to process private party transfers upon request. Firearms dealers may charge a fee not to exceed $10 per firearm for conducting a private party transfer. Example:
For a private party transfer involving one or more handguns, the total allowable fees, including the DROS, safety, and dealer transfer fees, are not to exceed $35.00 for the first handgun and $31.00 for each additional handgun involved in the same transaction.
For private party transfers involving one or more long guns, or a private party transfer involving one handgun, the total allowable fees, including the DROS, safety, and dealer transfer fees, are not to exceed $35.00. The dealer may charge an additional dealer-service fee of$10.00 per each additional firearm transferred.

Could the article have been ANY more biased?
How is it a “Buy-Back” unless the cops originally sold them?
29 guns taken out of the hands of elderly but desperate law abiding Americans, gang-bangers looking to trade up, or perhaps unemployed fools who should have simply been willing to give their names and sell at a reputable gun shop.
“whose main mission in life is to inflict damage with a wide spray pattern of buckshot”.
Yah, probably in self-defense, at home.
I have to wonder, true short barrels, or cops not knowing how to measure them properly?
No picture provided to judge from.
If true short shotguns, they just excused felonies.
“The department received 18 revolvers, including a .357-caliber Magnum by Smith & Wesson valued at around $400, a .38-caliber former police-issued gun and a .22-caliber handgun.”
Nice, cheat some old man or lady out of $400.00 at $25.00.
Guess that will get them some Alpo for dinner!
“a Lorcin .380-caliber semi-automatic valued at about $500”
In what universe? Lorcin = throw-away junk, they had a lifetime warranty because they would never sell without it.
Another effort to impress the gullible.
“No one turned in an assault rifle or automatic weapon, which were worth a $75 Bealls gift card.”
Really? No one lined up to give away a gun worth around $1,000 to tens of thousands of dollars if legal, for $75.00?
Only a banger would be that anxious to dump a valuable firearm.
“A father brought in a gun his son had and that he didn’t want in the house”.
So, they do accept guns they KNOW to be stolen, gun did not belong to the father, how old was his son?
“a woman who is known to Smith and the East Bradenton community as being a strong anti-crime, anti-violence advocate pulled into the parking lot....... She said there are guns in this community that needed to be turned in.”
Ah, the local hoplophobe, working tirelessly to deprive others of their rights.
A “Community Organizer”, who no doubt expects preferential treatment from the cops if SHE has a problem, being such a superior PC specimen as she is. /s
“I think it’s great they do this,” said Stanley Garcia, a New Jersey resident... I’m against guns”.
OK Jersey, you are against inanimate objects, but OK with your Joysey home-boy thugs?

Even private sales have to go though a licensed gun dealer."
Oops, Check your local laws, I forget private sales are forbidden some places. Gun shop or pawn shop is the place for you in Ca.
thanks mylife
And seriously, $25 gift card for Beall’s? LOL
However, the state line is not far away.
Once OUTSIDE Kalifornia, they have NO jurisdiction.
It is PERFECTLY LEGAL to sell your firearm to any licensed gun dealer OUTSIDE Kalifornia.
It is NOT legal to sell directly to a private party outside Kalifornia.
No problem.
Ca has really changed since I lived there.
You used to be able to buy guns at the Scottish Rite Temple for cash on the barrel head.
Never sell a firearm across state lines without an FFL
They did have a picture gallery at the website. At least a couple of the shotguns were definitely sawed-off.
Minnesota has its share of silliness, but we can still freely trade arms for the most part.
No, perfectly legal to sell across state lines, to a licensed dealer, including pawn shops and gunsmiths.
Some old guns are worth more in parts than whole!
Not legal to sell across state lines to a private party.
Unless the the gun is a pre-1898 antique.
I wouldn't turn in this for a $75 gift card!
Could you even fathom someone turning in a class full auto worth $25k for $75?
As I said, across statelines you must use an FFL.
No matter what state you reside in.
If it’s pre 1898 you can sell in to any one in the US and personally ship it via USPS legally (Not sure about HI or AK)
Did not see the gallery, nice of them to paper over actual felonies!
I wonder how many of these “Buy Back” guns were stolen, and will any effort be made to determine that?
If found to be stolen, what chance they are returned to the rightful owner?
Yes, I know the answers, no theft check, and none!
As it should be.
Send it to me :)
They forgot the decimal point. A Lorcin is worth about $5, and it might fire eight or nine rounds with the magazine. They obviously didn't get any photogenic AK47s to show off.
All gun turn-ins in Detroit feature an AK47, even if they have to bring one from the evidence locker. The rest of the haul is mostly trash.
Still, good on the Bradenton PD for getting the junk off the street. People could step on them, and break an ankle, otherwise.
I’m series; I pay the going rate for gun buy-backs around here ($50 Meijer gift card— I’ll make it Wal-Mart if you don’t have a Meijer by you).
Not to be argumentative, just clear.
So long as the receiving party holds an FFL, no FFL is required at the sellers end.
UPS, Fed-Ex, etc. may claim so, but it’s not true.
Long guns may be shipped via USPS, if you can find a postal clerk that follows the actual regulations.
Well, All I an saying is that our friend should contact an FFL holder in Ca, and that anyone selling across state line should as well.
Our gun laws are clear as mud.
The guns are to be melted-down.
(after the cops pick out the ones they want to take home)
I think I saw an M1 carbine in the gallery.
BTW I know a guy who’s brother is a cop in Ca, neither are friends of mine, and the cop in Ca has his brother buy 100 round AR15 mags an send them to him to circumvent the laws he is supposed to enforce.
Then when the asshat brother here visits the Cop in Ca takes him to the police range and they blow off tons of ammo for entertainment on the taxpayers dime.
If I lived in that state this would not be so simple for them.
I would sue to force them to check for stolen guns, and to return any found to the lawful owner.
As currently set-up, any punk could steal a gun (or several) and get up to $75.00 for it, NO QUESTIONS ASKED!
Oh, Also, The only folks that can sell across international borders without approval from the State Dept and ATF or liscensing are Eric Holder and the Justice Dept /s
Our Country is broken.
Were these guns actually on the streets?
I know people who cruise gun shows buying broken guns really cheap, just to have them to “Turn In” at the next “Buy-Back” for $100.00 each!
I know one guy who “Antiqued” several Crossman .45 replica BB guns and even cap-guns, then got $100.00 each for them from the ignorant wretch manning the “Buy-Back” booth.
Sometimes “the people” win. ;-)
So do they check if any of them are stolen or maybe used in another crime? Sounds like an easy way to get rid of a murder weapon.
Put it on here: http://www.gunauction.com/ . May as well get some money for it to buy a good gun and teach your kids how to respect and USE it.
