Claiming executive privilege puts Obama in an awkward spot, defending secrecy about a botched operation
For months, House Republicans have tried to pry documents from theU.S. Department of Justice about Operation Fast and Furious, the spectacularly botched government operation that put guns in the hands of Mexican drug cartel thugs.
And for months, the department has responded with some, but not all, of the papers.
This week the action escalated into a full-fledged constitutional clash between the White House and Congress. President Barack Obama backed Attorney GeneralEric Holder's refusal to release the documents. Obama invoked executive privilege a move to protect the documents under the reasoning that their release could harm the president's ability to obtain candid advice from his aides.

If this is how the media characterizes the scandal. Unless the GOP does something to educate the public it will die.
And I don't expect them to do anything. So F&F can be filed right next to Barack's relationships with terrorists & fraudsters, Bill Clinton's perjury, Hillary's cattle futures, Waco, Ruby Ridge, etc. etc.
*bangs head against keyboard*
They’re reporting on it, but they’re trying to frame it like nothing sinister was happening. Unreal!
It wasn’t botched. It was going as planned.
What changed is that the op was found out. Botched my ash.
DId you see the video and thread Wednesday of the 2009 news conference?
Background by Rush?
Zapata family filed suit?
PLENTY out there for the MSM to cover /s
The White House must be furious at the Tribune over this column. But with just over four months to go before the election and Obama rapidly self-destructing, even the MSM is starting to loosen the knots that have lashed them to Obama's mast. Despite what their rigged polls are telling us, they do know the score.
That was the 'botched' part.
No, the idea was to NOT track the guns - they didn't even try.
The ATF lost track of guns that ultimately were used in crimes on both sides of the border. Most prominently, two of the guns were recovered after U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry was killed in Arizona.
The ATF didn't "lose track" of guns, they never tracked them.
In Bush's op, Mexican LE was involved and they really tried to track - but in odumbo's op, no tracking was ever attempted. The idea was to use violence resulting from these guns as rationale for gun control.
The bastards let people die from guns - so they could attempt to control guns.
It’s like watching a car slide down an an icy street. At some point, you just sit back and enjoy the collision.
The comments are pretty good, though. If a source allows comments, a lot of truth gets out.
Do not trust a source that does not allow comments.
The GOP cannot educate the public except by using the media. The MSM is in the tank for Obama. That leaves it up to us, the new media, to spread the word. This scandal would never have seen the light of day except for the new media.
I am seeing lots of comments on articles where the MSM tries to spin this to cover for the administration. The word is getting out, but it takes more time than we are used to with the MSM.
Can’t you just hear the king now, “hey eric, it’ll be alright. The little people must do what I command”.
To the more than half of America that only half pays attention to the news, "Fast and Furious" is still a B-rated action movie.
This scandal will gain much more traction if we shift the meme over to MURDERGATE.
When liberals whine and ask why we call it Murdergate, just say, "Because nobody was murdered at the Watergate."
There’s more to this than gun control.
This is shaping up to be a dope for guns operation.
“Claiming executive privilege puts Obama in an awkward spot...”
Meaning that revealing what’s in those documents would be worse for Obama. He wouldn’t put himself in an awkward position if he had a better one.
