Republican Senate candidate Eric Hovde told The Hill that Democratic Senate candidate Tammy Baldwin is a communist.
"I fundamentally disagree with Tammy on almost everything," Hovde told the Hill, a congressional newspaper,
"She has a more liberal voting record than almost anybody in Congress. Her philosophy has its roots in Marxism, communism, socialism, extreme liberalism she calls it progressivism versus mine, which is rooted in free-market conservatism."
Baldwin's campaign took sharp issue with Hovde.
Spokesman John Kraus told the Hill that Baldwin has worked with Republicans to protect manufacturing in tghe United States against unfair trade practices by the Chinese.
"Hovde clearly has no interest in bipartisan work to create jobs and move our economic recovery forward," Kraus said.
Hovde's comments come on the heels of another controversial statement he made in Brookfield last week when he complained that there were too many sob stories about the plight of low-income people. Hovde's dig at the media on its coverage of the poor was first reported in the Huffington Post, which also posted a video.
On Thursday, Hovde said he regretted making the statement and tried to show his empthy for the disadvantaged through his work in his foundation. But Journal Sentinel columnist, Daniel Bice also reported that Hovde said in a fundraising, letter to supporters that his words had been taken out of context by the Huffington Post.

Wisconsin ping on Senate race
FReep Mail me if you want on, or off, this Wisconsin interest ping list.
Just went on Tammy’s web site. Looks like another extremely unattractive, wrinkled up commie to me.
Who WAS that eloquent masked man ?
The headline and lede are simply lies — or, at least, they are supported by the quoted statements. He said “Her philosophy has its roots in Marxism, communism, socialism, extreme liberalism she calls it progressivism[.]” That stops short of calling her a communist.
Sorry, I meant the headline and lede are NOT supported by the quotes.
Just ask her to name three tenants of Marxist-Socialism with which she disagrees. That’ll clear things up.
It’s about time people started speaking the truth.
I agree the headline is a lie.
I also think thta if this man calls someone a Progressive, that person probably thinks like a marxist Communist.
He should double-down while he's ahead.
Screwl the media.
Leni
Socialists and communists are the same thing. They believe the same things.
Socialism is just the transition period ushering in full-blown communism.
And since socialists know full-blown communism is an ideal that can’t ever be achieved, they’ll be socialists forever and thus, employed and in power forever.
Most Democrats don’t understand that they are Communists, because they think believing in Democracy makes them something else.
I'm not taking issue with his comment, but, is there really an difference?
If different paths are taken, but you arrive at the same destination, even though definitions are provided for each as unique, isn't it all the same?
Both the writer and headline writer should be fired and Hovde should sue them and their employer into the Stone Age.
This is from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, aka The Urinal. This is par for the course over there.
Notice it was a non-denial response.
“Working with republicans” - a nebulous term itself - isn’t a denial she isn’t a socialist/communist.
Even if she did actually work to help America’s trade against China, so what? She’s an AMERICAN socialist. Why should the chinese socialists always come out on top?
A non-rebuttal, rebuttal. That isn’t going to cut it with people this time around Tammy.
She’s a communist lesbian. Truly. Not making it up.
