LEALMAN, Fla. - The former principal of a Tampa middle school was arrested Friday after a crime spree in Lealman left two dead and another nine injured.
Officials say Anthony Joseph Giancola, 45, was involved in a fatal stabbing, an assault at a hotel, and hit five others with his car.
The spree is thought to have begun just before 11:00 a.m. at a group home for the hearing impaired in St. Petersburg, where a man and woman were stabbed to death and two others were hospitalized with knife wounds.
Justin Lee Vandenburgh, 32, was pronounced deceased on scene. 59-year-old Mary Anne Allis was taken to Northside Hospital, and was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The suspect is believed to have left the scene of the stabbing and made his way to Kenvin's Motel, 6801 Haines Road in Pinellas Park. According to Pinellas Park Police, the hotel owners, a married couple, were assaulted there.
Kanu A Patel, 57, and his wife, Indiranden Patel, 57, were taken to Bayfront Medical, and injuries to the male appear to be life-threatening.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Giancola was seen in a 2005 Ford Five Hundred Limited in the parking lot of HCF Foods Discount Store at 5705-B 58th Avenue North around 11:40 a.m. He abruptly reversed the vehicle, and crashed into a short wooden pole.
He circled the block, and crashed into three women and a man, injuring them, and breaking parts of the porch.
Pinellas County Sheriff Bob Gualtieri said Giancola called his mother to tell her she would be proud because he "used a big knife" and "killed ten drug dealers."
In 2007, after an arrest for buying crack cocaine, Giancola was fired as principal of Van Buren Middle School.

Florida is in the news about 5 times more than other big states.
I wonder why.
“WTF is wrong with people?!”
I’d be willing to bet that drugs and/or serious mental illness were involved in this.
Pretty safe bet, I’d reckon.
Florida: America’s Richard.
I keep hearing people claim that society isn’t crumbling because of these stories, it’s the reporting of bizarre incidents which serve to make it only seem that way, citing Pulitzer winner Barbara Tuchman’s principle that says “The fact of being reported multiplies the apparent extent of any deplorable development by five- to tenfold”.
I say baloney. Country is going crazier than an outhouse mouse.
With what has been reported recently from FL, I’d wonder about “bath salts”. He was a known crack junkie and bath salts are synthetic coke.
A job loss can sometimes set off people to commit social suicide.
Know a good mohel?
The job loss in question was in 2007. Not impossible, but seems a bit unlikely.
I concur. Welcome to The Crazy Years.
Seems probable. In any case, I hope he gets a very special intravenous drug.
Since there was no GUN involved, I am surprised this story has legs. Just another under appreciated (ex) “Educator” having a bad day.
Prayers for the Victims of this nutcase.
Now, now. Not all MSM stories are propaganda masquerading as news - only, say, 95% of them.
