A Moroccan man pleaded guilty on Friday to attempting to bomb the U.S. Capitol building in Washington in February, 2012, and could face up to 30 years in prison.
Amine El Khalifi, 29, an illegal immigrant living in Alexandria, Va., struck an agreement with prosecutors under which he pleaded guilty in U.S. federal court in Virginia.
He was charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction against property owned and used by the United States, intending to detonate a bomb and to shoot people.
"I plead guilty," he said, standing before Judge James Cacher for the U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Virginia. El Khalifi, dressed in a gray penitentiary jumpsuit and with a beard that reached several inches below his chin, appeared relaxed as he chatted with his lawyers before and after the court proceedings.
El Khalifi was arrested in a parking garage near the U.S. Capitol on Feb. 17 wearing a vest he believed was full of explosives supplied by al-Qaida, U.S. officials said. He had believed he was working with al-Qaida militants when in fact his contacts were undercover U.S. agents, they said.

Smith: Terrorists Continue to Exploit Immigration Loopholes
Amine el-Khalifi was born in Morocco and entered the United States in June 1999 on a B2 tourism visa. His visa expired in 1999 and he has been living in the U.S. illegally ever since.
The usage by the MSM of "illegal immigrant" is laughable.
He's an illegal alien and no PC phraseology can ever change that.
He's under 30!
2012 - 1999 = 13
29 - 13 = 16
He came over at 16...on a tourist visa.
What the hell is up with the visa department that they can't even track down a 16 year old foreigner when he overstays his visa?
Should've put an ankle tracker on him in my opinion.
He's a visitor, not a Citizen.
From Wiki (yeah, I know:)
((He worked at odd jobs and had occasional minor brushes with the law, including a marijuana charge and traffic violations. According to an acquaintance, El Khalifi regularly attended a mosque in Falls Church.
El Khalifi attracted attention in 2010, when his suburban Virginia landlord called police after the man allegedly threatened to beat him up. At the time, El Khalifi was being evicted from his apartment for failure to pay rent. The landlord was suspicious of packages El Khalifi had been receiving, and told police he thought El Khalifi was making bombs, but police told him to leave the man alone. At least one other man was living with El Khalifi at the time, and he claimed to be running a luggage business.))
Probably worked the convenience store circuit (they move ‘their people/workers’ around all the time) He looked to be always ‘bumping into’ the law yet nothing was done.
If Obama had a son...(or a friend...Bill Ayers)...
Obama to make phone call demand release.
This guy attempted to bomb the US Capitol building and isn’t stood up against a wall before a firing squad or strapped to a gurney with a needle in his arm...???
McVeigh got the needle for blowing up just a federal building with materials supplied by Eric Holder ....Oh’ wait never mind....
Why was this creature in our country in the first place? On what basis was he allowed to enter?
