I’m reliably informed that Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, the Budget Committee chairman, has submitted paperwork to the Romney campaign. Sources confirm that he is being vetted for the vice-presidential nomination.
Ryan, one of the GOP’s brightest young stars, is clearly a favorite of Romney allies. But some top Republican officials are wary of plucking him from the House, where he is the party’s most influential voice on fiscal issues.
Earlier this week, Romney campaigned with Ryan in Janesville, Wis., Ryan’s hometown. Ryan previously stumped for Romney in late March and early April, ahead of Wisconsin’s Republican presidential primary.
For their part, Ryan and his team remain mum on the issue, telling NRO: “Respecting their campaign’s internal process, we’re not going to comment.”
I for one genuinely like Paul Ryan. He strikes me as one of the few politicians inside the Beltway who isn’t afraid to either (a) tackle the tough issues facing our country or (b) lose his prestigious seat in Congress for doing so. (By the way, these are two qualities the president obviously lacks). Indeed, Rep. Ryan has been one of the most vociferous advocates for putting our fiscal house in order. He even introduced a budget proposal last March -- The Path to Prosperity -- which cut long-term spending to sustainable levels, reformed Medicare, and balanced the federal budget. Not too shabby. Setting aside the fact the president’s plan (which was voted down unanimously) accomplished none of these abiding goals, the proposal was -- surprise! -- demagogued relentlessly by Democrats and died in the United States Senate after narrowly passing the House. I suspect it’s scattered across Harry Reid’s desk right about now (underneath all those Republican jobs plans).
At any rate, given Paul Ryan’s many accomplishments, this does not necessarily mean he is without shortcomings. To my knowledge, he’s essentially spent his professional life in government and has no foreign policy credentials or executive experience. This may, indeed, hurt his chances of becoming Mitt Romney’s running mate. Tina Korbe, on the other hand, points out that placing Rep. Ryan on the ticket would demonstrate that Republicans -- finally -- were serious about resolving the nation’s impending debt crisis. And, of course, it would further underscore The One’s ineptitude and failure of leadership over the last three and half years. I like it!

You never really know if stories like this our true but, I sure like the idea. Quite franky, the country needs the stark contrast in choices.
Both parties have been guilty of overspending but, it seems as if the GOP is more comfortable with the idea of backing-off the credit card. Paul Ryan has made a couple of bites at the apple with his proposals and this is what used to be called ‘leadership.’ His proposals would be a great jumping off point in a Romney administration.
As for a second Obama term, I really try to be open minded. While it is clear Obama strongly disagrees with the Ryan budget, he has not yet offered a ‘counter-plan’ to reduce the deficit. Instead he gives us 1.5 trillion dollar deficits that not even his own senate supports. We as voters are therefore left to guess what his deficit reduction plan might be. Based on his record, my guess is he has no plan which scares me. The fact is, to maintain his spending levels everyone’s (and I mean everyone’s)federal taxes will have to at least double. So, as voters, we are left to assume that there will be no deficit reduction plan from Obama or a ‘double taxes’ budget from Obama. No matter what, it’s crap leadership because we shouldn’t be guessing. We should know.
President Obama is an unusual leader. He carries and presents himself as good as any politician I’ve ever seen. Still, his speeches are not inspiring, rather they are preachy and condescending as he spouts orders indignantly and lectures those who disagree with him. In the end, he comes across as a politician who doesn’t know how to roll up his sleaves and work with people he neither agrees with nor likes. The details of politics...the give and take...the interaction....the things that are usually the mothers milk of a skilled politician.....completely escape President Obama. In short, he doesn’t enjoy the very thing a President is called upon to do...which is to craft agreement and law where none appears to exist.
Our greatest Presidents were labeled great not because everyone agreed with them all the time. They were labeled great because they brought people and ideas together in what was thought to be impossible situations. For example, all of the south and half of the north hated President Lincoln. Even with this head win, President Lincoln was still able to maneuver in that environment and maneuver successfully.
No, President Obama is no leader. He prefers to lecture, whine, politicize, pander, and hit the golf course by 1 PM....mistaking attitude and anger for negotiation and positioning. It is obvious he is in completely over his head. It is clear that President Obama hasn’t the skills or the patience to get his vision in place. Heck, I’ll even go one further. He doesn’t even have a vision. If he did, there would be more than the Ryan Budget Plan for us voters to consider.
Ryan should probably have been the Presidential candidate, with somebody like Newt to add a little more excitement and experience.
I’m not sure Romney would like to run with Ryan, however, since Ryan is a lot smarter and less liberal than Romney and I don’t think Romney likes competitors.
Rubio, having had a Mormon background and having becoming increasingly liberal lately, would also have been too much on the same line and I think Romney never seriously considered him. Romney gave money to Rubio’s Senate campaign because he was buying everybody he thought might be a rival to him.
That said, I’m not voting for VP again.

Ryan’s a great pick, in my opinion, because IF Romney selects him and IF they win and IF Romney is reelected and IF Romney has a successful second term and IF Ryan goes from VP to nominee and IF Ryan follows Romney into the White House, I believe Ryan could be one of our greatest president’s ever. (But that’s a lot of IFs.)

Mitt, by comparison, makes McCain look absolutely arch-conservative, and with the addition of Governor Palin that was palatable.
Mitt though, having implemented Gay Marriage, Socialized Medicine, Assault Weapons Ban, Almost implemented a Carbon Cap-and-Trade scam, wholeheartedly supported Abortion, raised taxes/fees on everything he could, etc., etc., etc., is just simply to left-wing for me to vote for.

I’m beginning to think Romney may be a fall guy like McCain was . If he picks somebody like Ryan or Christie for VP you can be sure he is .

Did the people of the United States really elect Obama man as President?
He’s such an anethema to the American belief system and I include the ‘liberal belief’ sytem in that description. I rarely agreed with President Clinton (and the Lewinski thing was just a complete embarrassment) but, on some level I understood Clinton’s connection to the voters. President Obama, on the other hand, doesn’t even strike me as someone who’s comfortable with the belief system of 80% of the country. Most of us believe in free market capitalism and feel success should be financially rewarded. Obama seems to think the system owes everyone something.
To take this even further it seems as if Obama is trying to divide the country not between left and right political philosophies (which is always a healthy divide I think) but, between white people and non-white people. This would be dissastrous as our political battles would then turn from ‘how’ to best run the country into simply ‘who’ should run the country...regardless of philosophy....kind of like the so called democracy the Sunni’s and Shiites have put togeher in Iraq.
Romney is not always the most comfortable speech-giver and some of his ideas are flawed and probably political but, at least I feel like he (and Ryan) has the best interest of America at his core. Obama just seems to have a big angry chip on his shoulder.

I could hardly contain my rage reading that quote from Byron York. To Obama the owner of a corner grocery store is an “enemy”. This is Communism circa 1917, or 1950 at the latest! Only in America among such academic wannabe revolutionaries. And Americans voted for this Mugabe? In 1917 and in 1945 it took violent revolutions (and FDR) to install such people in foreign governments. And we fool ourselves that we have a near perfect democratic republic. Where are our leaders, our media to educate the voters?! I’m seeing Germany in the 1930s, Argentina in the 1940s.
Romney/Christy is way too RINO, and it’s way too “northeastern states only”! The majority of conservative voters/very conservative voters will be very disappointed, with such a ticket. Christy is for amnesty for illegal immigrants, too!

The problem with picking somebody from the House is that you don’t know if they can even carry their state since they only represent a district and most have never run for statewide office. I like Ryan and he may be the best choice but I’m just not sold.
Smoke and Mirrors, Rand Paul will be the VP. To many things in factor here, as well, he has dropped the Libertarians off the cliff. Ron has 1/3 of the delegates, by hook or crook, it matters not. The deal has been made, his son will be VP or they will shut down the Florida convention. Sorry to the republicans but, the tea party is not dead, just underground talking to allot of people. As Van Jones said, we didn’t count on the Tea Party.

Well, you may be right about Romney but, we have to give the dudee a chance. What’s the choice? Say what you want but, Romney knows how to run a business.
Second, Romney-care is not unconstitutional and to compare it to Obama care on a legal basis does everyone a diservice. Hers’ the thing: Any and all states have the right to make people buy insurance...which I wouldn’t support but, as an elected state government, they can do what they want.
Obama-care, on the other hand, is not constitutional. Follow me- The Obama administration is claiming the right to make individuals in every state buy insurance based on the Commerce Clause of the constitution. The Commerce Clause does give the power to the Feds to regulate the economy. It does not, however; give the Feds the power make us take part in the economy. In other words, the feds have no more right to make us buy health insurance than the state of Oregon has the right to make Californians buy health insurance. With that said, Massachusettes has every right to make their own citezens buy insurance. Got it?! Good. Now, go educate some of your friends.

Insanity. Seniors will vote for Obama to hang on to the benefits they spent decades paying for. Ryan’s problem is the problem with too many Republican conservatives - they spend too much time going after the paid-for benefits going to their voter base and not enough going after freebies benefiting the Dems’ voter base. Ryan’s ideas are the ideas of the average zillionaire who wants to coddle the indigent while zapping the middle class.
Yep - them big corporate folks who have led successful careers are absolutely INCAPABLE of taking advice from the people they surround themselves with....I hope your wishes do not come true - they lead to another 4 years of Obama and our final undoing.
I see smoke and mirrors too and I don’t know what he would gain by using Ryan. I like Ryan , but he made it a point to announce he was not interested in any kind of job other than what he was doing. He said he had discussed it with his wife etc and this was the reason he didn’t run for Prez. (so he says)...what’s so different about VP?

I wish he would choose West just because I would love to hear him put O in his place, one black man to another so to speak. West’s no nonsense approach after four years of absolute and utter demonic nonsense would be like a breath of fresh air....
This is only being done to dampen down the conservative opposition for a bit. The only way Ryan becomes VP is if he is a rino disguising himself as a conservative. Whether Romney wins or loses Ryan’s political career would be destroyed if he takes the position.
