Charles Krauthammer: Obama's immigration bombshell is naked lawlessness
San Jose Mercury News ^ | 06/23/2012 | Charles Krauthammer

"With respect to the notion that I can just suspend deportations [of immigrants brought here illegally as children] through executive order, that's just not the case, because there are laws on the books that Congress has passed."

-- President Barack Obama, March 28, 2011

WASHINGTON -- Those laws remain on the books. They have not changed. Yet Obama last week suspended these very deportations -- granting infinitely renewable "deferred action" with attendant work permits -- thereby rewriting the law. And doing precisely what he himself admits he is barred from doing.

Obama had tried to change the law. In late 2010, he asked Congress to pass the DREAM Act, which offered a path to citizenship for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants. Congress refused.

When pressed by Hispanic groups to simply implement the law by executive action, Obama said it would be illegal.

Now he's gone and done it anyway. The election approaches and his margin is slipping. He needs a big Hispanic vote. After all, who will call him on it? A supine press? Congressional Democrats?

With a single Homeland Security Department memo, the immigration laws no longer apply to 800,000 people. By what justification? Prosecutorial discretion, says Janet Napolitano.

Obama just pushed blacks out of the job market.

If they continue to support him then it means they don’t want jobs.

Of all the things I’ve seen in my lifetime this was probably the most brazen. Heck, it’s more than that. It’s impeachable. The President takes an oath to defend the constitution and enforce the laws of the US. It’s just a sad, if not incompetent display of leadership.

Who is the President anyway? He unilaterly changes immigration law, puts together a Healthcare bill that is unconstitutional by any reasonable persons analysis of the commerce clause. He then sues Arizona over immigration laws and other states over voter ID regulations all of which are clearly constitutional based on case-law that already went though the system.

Our current President doesn’t even come across as someone who understands American culture let alone our constitution. This is one unusual President and one unusual time period we live in. I sure hope the Wisconsin vote was a harbinger of things to come!

The very FIRST impeachable and unconstitutional act by Obama was his moving the Census Bureau into the White House under Rahm Emmanuel’s control.

Dear Leader wants to make laws without congress - he also wants couples to give up their wedding gifts to help him be re-elected...

Krauthammer didn’t have the guts to call out the lawlessness of an ineligible fraud assuming the office of President. He was as complicit as anyone for allowing this to happen.

Brilliant observation.

So, socialism, and no jobs, is more important than a free market with jobs.....ergo, they don't have to “Put up or shut up!”, when talking about them actually having the desire to work.

It would expose their fearful dependency upon the government dole.

King Obama violated the existing immigration law and the offense is impeachable if he attempt to instruct implementation.

All true, but just ponder how emboldened he will be if he wins a second term. He will go the full Hugo Chavez.

I'm not sure that actually happened.

You'll perhaps recall that retiring Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) was initally appointed Secretary of Commerce. When it became known that the President intended to transfer the census function out of the Commerce Department (leaving it with NOAA and little else), Gregg made a stink and refused to accept the post.

Subsequently, Obama agreed to leave the Census where it was -- in the Commerce Department. Gregg walked away anyway.

I don't think the transfer of the Census to the White House ever actually took place.

RE: Support the “HALT” Act - NO Amnesty!

Dear [Sen./Rep.] [LAST NAME]:

I'm writing to ask you to please SUPPORT the “Hinder the Administration's Legalization Temptation” (or HALT) Act, which has been introduced as H.R. 2497 in the House, and S. 1380 in the Senate.

President Barack Obama, along with Janet Napolitano, secretary of Homeland Security, has announced immunity from deportation for illegal immigrants who were brought to the United States before they turned 16 and who are younger than 30 – among other criteria. They can apply for a two-year work permit that can be renewed indefinitely.

The decision is not just a breach of faith with the American people. It blatantly ignores the rule of law that is the foundation of our democracy.

While executive branch authority is justifiable when exercised responsibly, actions taken by the Administration demonstrate that they cannot be trusted with this power. If the Administration gets its way, over 1.4 million illegal immigrants will be allowed to remain in the U.S. — without ANY vote of Congress.

That's NOT RIGHT. Thankfully, Rep. Lamar Smith and Sen. David Vitter have introduced legislation to restore Congress’ Constitutional powers over immigration. Please, SUPPORT the “Hinder the Administration's Legalization Temptation” (or HALT) Act, which has been introduced as H.R. 2497 in the House, and S. 1380 in the Senate. Thank you.

Sincerely,

Ah, yes. Let’s just pass more ‘laws’ that won’t be followed, let alone the Constitution.

If the feckless GOP-e won’t do anything NOW, what’s another grandstanding dog-n-pony show going to do?
