Major work begins on Murtha ship

The Tribune-Democrat

PASCAGOULA, Miss. — Major construction has started on the John P. Murtha, another in a series of amphibious transport vessels that includes the USS Somerset.

The Navy held a “keel authentication” ceremony June 7 for the LPD 26 at Ingalls Shipbuilding in Pascagoula.

The Navy tradition signifies that the boat’s keel has been “truly and fairly laid.”

The authenticator – Mobile, Ala., resident Wilfred Bolds – marked his initials on a keel plate, which will be affixed to the vessel.

The USS John P. Murtha – named for the late Johnstown congressman, who served in the Marines – is the 10th ship in the San Antonio-class of ships built by Ingalls. The company has delivered six such ships to the Navy.

The boat is scheduled to be delivered to the Navy in 2015.

Construction of the Murtha was announced in April 2010 during ceremonies at the Johnstown airport.

“It’s a beautiful day to honor one of America’s patriots,” Navy Secretary Ray Mabus said at the time.

Also on hand for the event were Murtha family members and then-Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

The Murtha will be crewed by 363 Navy personnel and carry 700 Marines.

The fighters, along with equipment and supplies, would be shipped to hot spots around the world.

“It’s a beautiful day to honor one of America’s patriots,” Navy Secretary Ray Mabus said at the time.

Did he keep a strait face when he said this or did choke, through up or perhaps collapse in hysterical laughter?

If they had to name a Naval vessel after Murtha is should have been a pig boat for the Houses King of Pork.

They will probably have to bribe it to make it leave port.

I am sorry for anyone who has to serve on that ship named for the worthless commie dirtbag, but I hope their service is safe and good. Hopefully, they quickly transfer off the ship.

Wouldn't it be funny if it had the highest request for transfer?

Mabus is more full of crap than a Christmas goose and about as detestable as Murtha for okaying this ship being named for him.

I can’t believe the Navy is naming a ship after the traitor Murtha.

That would be quite fitting, particularly if it was all Marines doing the requesting!

I don’t know if it’s the Navy determining the name, I thought it was congress that makes the decision... However; I really feel sorry for the crew that has to be associated with such a poltroon.

I hear the Navy will only require a few things of those who serve on-board this ship. They must:

1) Be openly gay
2) Be openly communist, Muslim, atheist, Democrat or some other proven variation of anti-American
3) Have accepted bribes
4) Have complete and utter disdain for their familial roots (as in, “these folks are all rednecks and racists.”
5) Kneel before Zod

(okay, I made up #5, but it kind of fits with the others, if you get the reference)

The good news is the only people that bothered to show up for this ceremony were shipyard workers who were already there anyway!

Plus, it happened on June 6th and it took the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat ten days to figure it out and report it! LOL!!!!

I don’t know if it’s the Navy determining the name, I thought it was congress that makes the decision...

All the other ships in the class are named for American cities. According to what I read, Mabus sent a memo down which designated this ship name. So absent any contradictory information, Ray owns this stinker of a decision.

That's GREAT news! They had a ceremony for a corrupt Congressman and nobody came, just what Murtha deserved.

I think a garbage scow would be a more appropriate ship named after him.

Secretary of the Navy names new ships. Congressmen do ask favors in naming though.

“It’s a beautiful day to honor one of America’s patriots, dirtiest and most corrupt effin crooks in the Congress” Navy Secretary Ray Mabus said at the time.

There we go, a little edit in the interest of accuracy.

You’re right, Mabus owns this.

http://www.seaforces.org/usnships/lpd/San-Antonio-class.htm

Apparently in an attempt to outdo himself, Mabus has also named a Navy cargo ship after Cesar Chavez...

“Cesar Chavez, the Marxist community organizer and farm union leader, who hated the U.S. Navy and capitalism, has been honored with a Lewis and Clark class Naval vessel named the Cesar Chavez.”

I agree with you. I was also looking at another thread where a same sex marriage took place at Fort Polk in Louisiana in contradiction to GOD's Law and the state of Louisiana.

There is no way in clear conscience I could encourage anyone to join either. One of my grandsons is automatic 4-F due to deafness the other I hope never has to serve under the destructive policies & trends that has prevailed since Reagan left the building in 1989. The sad and disgusting part is the GOP doesn't have a spine to stop any of this. The Bush family pandered to the gay vote as did Clinton and as does Obama.

Our elected leaders and many of our religious leaders {which are wolves among sheep seeking too destroy} as well ignore the very serious danger our nation is in. Our moral collapse as a nation has but two possible outcomes of which is either One Nation Under GOD or One Nation Under Judgment?
