Glenn Beck Blasts NYT's Brooks for Mocking His Muslim Prediction After Egypt Was 'Liberated'

Conservative author Glenn Beck on Sunday took to Twitter to blast New York Times columnist David Brooks for comments he made last year about the talk radio host's predictions concerning Egypt without President Hosni Mubarak.

On PBS's Newshour last February, syndicated columnist Mark Shields mentioned Beck in a discussion about how people attending the CPAC convention viewed the goings-on in Egypt from a domestic political perspective:

MARK SHIELDS, SYNDICATED COLUMNIST: Well, I think it is a lack of self-confidence, surefootedness. They didn`t know what they wanted to say. They weren`t sure.

The only one who was really critical that I saw was Rick Santorum, the former senator from Pennsylvania, who basically took the line that has been developed by both Sean Hannity and Glenn Beck. And that was that the -- Barack Obama, by not supporting Hosni Mubarak in his hour of need, was turning his back on a great ally.

And that -- that became the position. But there was nobody there really celebrating the moment of freedom and taking that, picking up that banner. And that -- that -- I think that does belie a lack of confidence, surefootedness, on a terribly important issue.

JIM LEHRER, HOST: Do you agree -- David, do you agree with Mark that what - - what these folks, these 11,000 people want is a candidate -- maybe not the whole Republican Party, but these 11,000, they want somebody who can beat Barack Obama; it isn`t about they have a certain set of issues that they want a candidate...

(CROSSTALK)

DAVID BROOKS, NEW YORK TIMES: Not for these 11,000. These are true believers.

JIM LEHRER: OK.

DAVID BROOKS: These are -- this is not your Republican committee person who owns a car dealership somewhere out in the country.

MARK SHIELDS: Yes.

DAVID BROOKS: These are true believers. And they will -- they are going to have a straw poll. And, traditionally, somebody like Ron Paul will win this thing.

And so they want the hard-core stuff. And so -- and they want -- they want to establish principle. And the other aspect of this group, increasingly true of the party activists as a whole, is they are quite libertarian, not that interested in social conservative issues. And so they will tend to gravitate towards somebody like Paul.

Just on the -- on the Egypt thing...

JIM LEHRER: Yes.

DAVID BROOKS: ... there -- there was an interesting split among the Glenn Beck types, really with delusional ravings about the caliphate coming back, and I would say the conservative establishment, which saw this as a fulfillment of Ronald Reagan`s democracy dream.

And there was that interesting split. And there were really some fights, including between Bill Kristol and Glenn Beck this week...

MARK SHIELDS: That`s right. Yes.

JIM LEHRER: Kristol taking the position that...

DAVID BROOKS: ... saying, this is wonderful. What are you raving about? It is not the taking over of the Muslim fundamentalists.

And Glenn Beck, and you -- for the first real time, you began to see a lot of really serious conservatives taking on Beck and people like that, and saying, you know, your theories are just wacky.

With the Egyptian election going to Muslim Brotherhood candidate Mohamed Morsi Sunday, Beck took to Twitter to dish out some crow:

1/3 Quote of the day from NYT's David Brooks (2011): “For the first real time, you began to see a lot of really serious conservatives… — Glenn Beck (@glennbeck) June 24, 2012

2/3 Brooks cont’d: “…taking on Beck and people like that, and saying…your theories [about Egypt being... — Glenn Beck (@glennbeck) June 24, 2012

3/3 Brooks cont’d: …”taken over by Muslim fundamentalists] are just wacky.” David Brooks Apology Tour tickets now on sale? #COWARDS — Glenn Beck (@glennbeck) June 24, 2012

One quite imagines there will be a lot of media members that warned America to not worry about a Muslim Brotherhood takeover if Mubarak fell having to eat their own crow in the coming days.

Stay tuned.

He was right going all the way back to before Tunisia. He was where I first heard of the Hamas Covenant which is widely regarded as the blueprint of an islamic constitution under a global caliphate.

BTW if anyone ever wonders why socialists love islam so much

Article Twenty-One of the Hamas Covenant.

Mutual social responsibility means extending assistance, financial or moral, to all those who are in need and joining in the execution of some of the work. Members of the Islamic Resistance Movement should consider the interests of the masses as their own personal interests. They must spare no effort in achieving and preserving them. They must prevent any foul play with the future of the upcoming generations and anything that could cause loss to society. The masses are part of them and they are part of the masses. Their strength is theirs, and their future is theirs. Members of the Islamic Resistance Movement should share the people's joy and grief, adopt the demands of the public and whatever means by which they could be realised. The day that such a spirit prevails, brotherliness would deepen, cooperation, sympathy and unity will be enhanced and the ranks will be solidified to confront the enemies.

I couldn't help but think at the time that we were seeing Jimmy Carter and Iran repeat itself. I guess I was correct.

Put a liberal Democrat in the White House and watch the foreign policy disasters mount up.

Beck was called a conspiracy wacko on FR for saying the Muslim in the White Hut was setting up power for the Muslim Brotherhood.

The community organized Arab Spring was a plot to empower our enemies - radical Islamists during a time of war. The military has cooperated with this plot; even creating an atmosphere where it was dangerous to report Hanson, an Islam jihadist, operating out of Fort Hood. I wonder how many soldiers have been maimed and murdered by these treasonous turds for their twisted globalist ideology. How many jihadists have they placed in the government and let in over the open border, ready to go for another attack on the US.

There is no possibility of freedom, democracy, & the rule of law EVER flourishing in muslims countries, as these things require a moral people, & islam is fundamentally immoral.

Beck should send this to Brooks:

“Beck was called a conspiracy wacko on FR for saying the Muslim in the White Hut was setting up power for the Muslim Brotherhood.”

Come now, you know that not everyone on FR was saying that. FR isn’t some monolithic site, and I’d bet that more posters agreed with him than disagreed.

Isn’t Brooks the Manhattan RINO who was groped by a man under the table at a dinner party, and DID NOTHING?

I don’t believe that the poster meant everyone in FR, but there were some that did. I remember seeing the posts myself

The good thing about Egypt is that when it goes to hell in a handbasket, nobody will be able to blame the US because it is the power behind Moubarak. The fault will be laid squarely at the feet of the Islamists.

Being a Liberal means never having to say you’re sorry.

The Libs will never say they are sorry or admit that they were wrong.

The most they will ever say if cornered and force to speak on the subject is that no one could have foreseen the Muslim Brotherhood coming to power in Egypt. Beck and the others is just lucky pessimist.

This won’t bother Brooks, as I’m quite sure he’s one of the folks that thinks the MB are a centrist, secular organization.

You know, ignorant.

Sure, but saying he was “called that on FR” implies it was some sort of general sentiment or something.

Fox made a huge mistake

OReilly or Hannity should have lost their shows and put Glenn in Primetime
