Morsi: I'll Rethink Israel Peace, Build Iran Ties
Newser ^ | Jun 25, 2012 | Mark Russell

(NEWSER) – Mohammed Morsi's government will "reconsider the Camp David Accord," the 1979 treaty declaring peace between Egypt and Israel, the newly-elected president told Iran's state-run Fars News Agency today. Morsi was also quoted as saying that he wanted to build closer ties with Iran to "create a strategic balance" in the Middle East, the Lebanon Daily Star reports. He stressed, however, that he'd work the issues out with his Cabinet. "I will not take any decision on my own."

Morsi is currently working to assemble that Cabinet. The Muslim Brotherhood has reportedly approached secular reformer Mohamed ElBaradei for a senior post—perhaps even prime minister, Reuters reports. ElBaradei has not yet responded. Party officials say Morsi is also in talks with the military to restore parliament.

But the Brotherhood is continuing a sit-in to pressure the military to surrender more powers, notes the Daily Star.

Israeli tanks should already be in the Sinai by now.

If not, they should be getting ready for a two front campaign, and prepare for the pre-emptive strikes that will guarantee their safety.

To heck with that. They should be bouncing a practice bomber labeled “20KT” off of the Aswan dam and dropping leaflets in Arabic with the legend “How well can you swim?”

“”I will not take any decision on my own.”

Does anyone really believe this? I have a feeling the great LIARS of the world are uniting.

"Hey, is this a victory for Obama’s foreign policy or what?"

And Obozo was so troubled with the developments yesterday... that he spent the day golfing.

Israeli tanks should already be in the Sinai by now.

The US sold Israel down the river 17 years ago with tank superiority.

"Egypt obtained US approval in 1984 to build a factory to produce new tanks. Under the initial agreement, the Egyptians would assemble 524 M1A1 tanks, and Egyptian officials hoped that this number would eventually rise to 1,500 tanks. Six production cycles were established initially, with each increment increasing the level of technology from General Dynamics Land Systems. Beginning in mid-1992, Egypt started assembling M1A1 tank components imported from the United States. Egypt manufactured about 40% and imported 60% of the components for the 555 tanks produced. The cost was estimated at $3.2 billion. The Egyptians also will produce the 120-mm cannon as well as an increasing number of parts for the tank. Egyptian officials said the goal was to make Cairo self-sufficient in tank production."

I think Obama has facilitated and encouraged all this “Arab Spring” business. - He seems to think he can control the Muslim Brotherhood just like he uses Code Pink, OWS and all the other “progressive” groups.

It’s a weakened vs. of the M1A1. Front armor sucks.

The Merkava (developed using lessons of the M1A1 and really standing on its developers’ shoulders) is a far superior tank to even the original M1A1.

The Aswan High Dam is Egypt’s permanent Achilles’ heel.

The Soviets built it as the world’s biggest mass of quarried rubble, more than a kilometer thick at its base, to absorb any explosive smaller than a nuke like a sponge.

But push Israel’s back to the wall, and they will use nukes to breach the Aswan Dam. This threat was first used in 1973 when Henry Kissinger the `peacemaker’ warned the Egyptians what would happen if they tried to push across the Sinai into Israel proper.

The stupidity level of the Muslim Brotherhood in power has not yet been determined. But if they abrogate the 1979 treaty then all bets are off and a google map satellite image of the Aswan Dam with crosshairs on it will quickly go viral, captioned “Do you feel lucky? Well, do you, punk?”

I did not know that. Thanks. The Merkava is a good tank.

I don’t think the Saudis who are now bankrolling the Egyptian economy would be pleased if Morsi tries to align Egypt with Iran.
