Is there some attorney out there who can explain in plain English the reasons for this decision?

Roberts IS a conservative. If he voted against the opther provisions of the Arizona Law, there must have been a reason for it.

On the other hand, this gives the GOP more ammunition in the General Election to use against Obama for his failure to enforce existing Federal Immigration Law statutes. A failure which actually WAS intitiated under Bush II.

Immigration is the responsibility of the Fed, the Fed isn’t doing their job. Seems the court does not think the State can step in just because the Fed is looking the other way. However, the part of the law that wasn’t struck down is extremely important. I wouldn’t call this a loss but not a win either.

Roberts as with this case and marijuana favors Federal power over State Rights.

True, but this won't add much; after all Emperor Hussein I has already decreed that he isn't going to enforce the immigration laws he disagrees with.

I think you’re absolutely correct.

People who are fed up with illegal (not legal!) aliens coming into this country and going on the dole will be furious come November (as long as the GOP campaign harps on the Fed (re: Obama) NOT doing their job).

If we lose this election, then we get what we deserve.

BTW, everyone should mention that legal immigrants get screwed by illegals by continuously getting pushed to the back of the bus, and never let the media or dems say you’re anti-immigrant. Get outraged, and tell them you are not anti-immigrant at all, but anti-ILLEGAL-alien!!!!

Roberts IS a conservative.

Sure he is. There is nothing Conservative about expanding Federal Power, in contradiction of existing law no less.

I predicted that ObamaCare would be upheld all along, now I am sure of it.

I am resigned to the fact that our Republic is indeed dead.

Roberts IS a conservative.

He sure has a funny way of showing it.

I vaguely remember hearing that Roberts might side with the lib judges when the conservatives were going to lose anyway. Something about he doesn't want all cases to be a split 5-4 vote because it might reflect badly on the court. Might have heard that on Rush's show, but not sure. Rush did mention Roberts and his legacy today, but wouldn't say anything further.

Not saying it's right.

Mark Levine is a show not to miss tonight.

I would beg you all to calm down.

There were only 8 justices deciding this case. Kana was forced ro recuse herself.

Had Roberts NOT voted with the majority, the vote would have been split 4/4 and automatically the entire law would have been handed back to the Appeals Court whose decision to overturn the entire law would stand.

Roberts did what he could to salvage some part of the law. IMHO he is a brilliant legal mind, perhaps the most brilliant in modern history, and he is a constitutional conservative.
