James Fallows Reveals Inner Moonbat: '5 Signs the United States Is Undergoing a Coup'

James Fallows, national correspondent for The Atlantic, usually presents an image of himself as a "reasonable" liberal. However yesterday he revealed his inner moonbat with an article title worthy of a thread name in the sanity challenged Democratic Underground: "5 Signs the United States is Undergoing a Coup." After a few hours of reflection, Fallows realized he allowed too much of his moonbat side to be displayed to the public so he altered the title with this explanation

Midnight update: This item went up three hours ago with a more blunt-instrument headline than it should ever have had: "5 Signs the United States is Undergoing a Coup." I used the word "coup" in a particular way in the longer item this was drawn from. Using it in the headline implies things I don't mean.

So far the 21st century is shaping up to be the Century of the Moonbat. In fact, I've heard almost nothing but moonbattery from the MSM since circa 1987.

That said, they are really still that butthurt about the 2000 election? LOL!

The level of paranoia in politics (BOTH sides, yes even here on FR) astounds me. Otherwise “rational” humans start seeing boogey men around all corners..

First, a presidential election is decided by five people, who don't even try to explain their choice in normal legal terms.

Anyone who claims that Bush v. Gore in 2000 was a 5-4 decision is either lying or ignorant. The real decision that Florida had to follow its own election laws (and especially no recount cherry picking in Democratic counties) was 7-2. The follow on 5-4 decision said that Florida had wasted so much time doing the recount illegally they didn't have the time to redo a legal recount completely before the due date so had to stick with their original results.

Is it “paranoid” to point out that the left’s unwavering goal is to implement worldwide communism?

“Is it “paranoid” to point out that the left’s unwavering goal is to implement worldwide communism?”

You mean just because people like George Soros with direct access to the White House have stated it as their goal?

yeah apparently thats paranoid.

“Implement worldwide communism” is a nebulous, ephemeral concept.

What they want is to see most of us dead, the rest in chains.

That’s what they want.

The communists have been trying for many years to turn America into a communists dictatorship. The are real close to it this King Obama term. Americans may never realize that putting a communists black as President will destroy their way of life.

Since he’s an Obama lover I’m surprised the headline didn’t read as:

‘5 Signs the United States Is Undergoing a Coupe’

- or -

‘5 Signs the United States Is Undergoing a Coop’

Watergate was a coup. I guess, the media don’t like it when we refuse to believe their junk.

Ask any liberal who spews this trash to try and say those words if SCOTUS had ruled for Gore.

not knowing the author and being generally horrible with names, I thought this was about how the administration was accomplishing the take over of the government by Obama simply making up rules as he goes along. A true existentialist.

What they want is to see most of us dead, the rest in chains.

That's the real bottom line, isn't it? Strip away all the pretension, all the evasive language and disingenuous assertions, and that's what lies at the destination of the road the Left and their ilk have traveled for generations: slaughter for it's own sake and slavery. History is my witness.

In recent history, look at Alec Baldwin, wanting to stone Henry Hyde and his family to death.

Look at the junior-high students last week on the bus harassing the “bus monitor” - they don’t have far to go before they’re perfectly willing to be shoveling people into the ovens.

There’s those barbarians, and then above and beyond them, there’s the idiots who view humanity as a blight on the planet and think that humans should become extinct as a favor to Mother Gaia.

End of the line, Jimmy. We didn't pick that fight. You did. Your boy chose to take it to court. He was warned his chances were slim to none. He was warned he'd look like a sore loser, and accordingly branded for life. That's what you got. A nasty, embittered loser, now selling glowbul warming snake oil to a generation of whiny soccer kids who didn't get a participation trophy for the first votes they ever cast.

All these items you've mentioned are part of the general cultural cultural degringolade that is part and parcel of the Marxist-Gramscian praxis.

Our last Dark Age lasted almost a thousand years. The next one - which is what we'll surely get if these monsters succeed in their aims - may well last ten thousand. As I've said before, they would rather rule in hell atop a pile of rubble and stinking corpses just so long as they were the ones sitting on top. It's beyond our worst nightmares; it is viciously, sadistically insane. It's what they want and who they are. And there is only one way to stop them.

Moonbat Fallows is desperately repeating the Obama plan to demonize the Supreme Court if they rule against OCare.

Speaking of barbarism, in the course of research for the book, I've run across another neglected historian - R. C. Collingwood. He has this to say about barbarism vs. savagery:

"I distinguish two ways of being uncivilized. I call them savagery and barbarism, and distinguish them as follows. Savagery is a negative idea. It means not being civilized, and that is all. In practice, I need hardly say, there is no such thing as absolute savagery; there is only relative savagery, that is, being civilized up to a certain point and no more. By barbarism I mean hostility towards civilization; the effort, conscious or unconscious, to become less civilized than you are, either in general or in some special way, and, so far as in you lies, to promote a similar change in others"
from The New Leviathan: Or Man, Society, Civilization and Barbarism 1942
-- R. C. Collingwood.

Collingwood's concept of barbarism fits the wrecking crew behind Obama rather well, and fits my image of these monsters ruling from atop the rubble to a 'T'.

As an aside, I wonder if Quigley and Collingwood ever corresponded with one another?

Correction: “R. C. Collingwood” should be “R. G. Collingwood”
