U.S. Attorney: Man named "Jihad Hatem" tried to bribe Harahan Police Chief

A Gretna man has been charged with trying to bribe the Harahan Police Chief in an effort to get a liquor license for his business in that city.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Jihad Hatem Hamad, 26, approached Police Chief Jacob "Mac" Dickinson in March and requested his support for a liquor license for Hamad's business, Harahan Cheap Smokes. Court documents said Hamad told Dickinson that a wealthy person would be willing to make a campaign contribution to the chief if he supported the defendant's application for a liquor license.
