Maurice Sendak Said Killing Bush Would Have Been 'Wonderful'

Maurice Sendak

Maurice Sendak may have been even wilder than his "wild things."

In one of the children's book author's last interviews before he died of a stroke in May, Sendak said he thought about trying to assassinate former President George W. Bush and former Vice President Dick Cheney.

"Bush was president, I thought, 'Be brave. Tie a bomb to your shirt. Insist on going to the White House. And I want to have a big hug with the vice president, definitely. And his wife, and the president, and his wife, and anybody else that can fit into the love hug,'" Sendak told The Comics Journal's founder Gary Groth in an interview that will be published in the magazine's next edition.

"And then we'll blow ourselves up, and I'd be a hero," Sendak continued.

"It would have been a very brave and wonderful thing," said Sendak, who wrote the whimsical "Where the Wild Things Are."

Sendak has had his share of unorthodox comments, although none perhaps as violent as pondering a presidential assassination.

He called former GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich "an idiot of great renown."

"There is something so hopelessly gross and vile about him that it's hard to take him seriously," Sendak told comedian Stephen Colbert in January.

And in 2008, shortly after his 80 th birthday, Sendak told the New York Times, "I hate people," adding that he would rather spend time with his dog Herman.

I’d rather not know this, having always enjoyed his wacky books. But, now that I do, are we sure that he wasn’t suffering from syphillitic dementia?

Maurice sounds like a very tolerant, creative, artisitic individual...

...unlike those evil, racist, homophobic, xenophobic, nativist Tea Partiers.

What a remarkably vile person he was! I have no doubt that many on the left agree with him 110%.

Oh this is good news.
I have a few of his books.
Now those books will warm up some cold nights as kindling.

I never understood what was so great about WTWTA.
Sendak was a horrible illustrator.Ugliest kids ever.
The truth finally comes out why.

Some people bring joy to the world at their birth and tears by their passing, this disgusting individual managed to get it backwards.

“Gross and vile” are just some of the words that comes to mind after reading the article.

I hope he died in agony.

He exists in liquid fire now. I don't wish that on most people, but he brought it upon himself.

“Not surprising.”

It’s not surprising that Obama is so out front about his pro-gay sentiments, is it? I have to wonder if the man is a closet gay and if Moochelle and the girls are just cover for Obama’s ‘keeping it on the downlow’.

I miss seeing Bat Boy at check out in the grocery store. Do you think her really WAS the love child of OBL and Saddam?

Sendak was a piece of garbage. Just because a person has a particular talent does not have anything to do with them being a decent human being.

M. Mouse says he even ‘smells like a loon.’

Going to have to look thru g-kids’ extensive libraries, and consider a ‘F 451’ - - -

Maybe there’s none of his books there.

Salve

I think Ex President is under protection of your law, and wishing death on someone is evil.

I believe you should contact your Government and he should be arrested for threatening life of Ex President.

Merci.

Sounds like he got his death wish. He just didn’t have the right stuff to take those evil republicans with him. Good Riddance.

We had all of his books, bought when they first came out, and read them to our kids. Everyone enjoyed them greatly.

His books are certainly eccentric, but I never scented anything evil in them, and I still don’t.

Maybe some of this is just senile dementia. And maybe some of it is stupid lib talk. He may have talked about strapping on bombs, but I doubt whether he ever seriously intended to do it. Sure, you shouldn’t talk like that about the POTUS, but plenty of libs have bad habits.

True. NC man gets 20 years for threatening ex-president

I believe you should contact your Government and he should be arrested for threatening life of Ex President.

Sendak died last month. But maybe somebody knows more about the law -- the line (if any) between actual threats and wishing that something had happened.

” The New York Times that he was gay and had lived with his partner”

That says it all. They are the most vile outspoken of liberal hate mongers.
