Poll: George W. Bush is gaining in popularity

I've always thought that history is going to be kind to President George W. Bush. While that whole "compassionate conservatism" thing and its derivative policies drive me nuts (what does that imply ... that I'm otherwise not compassionate? False, ugh!), I think his humility and good-faith efforts will eventually earn him much more widespread respect than he received when he was in office.

Despite President Obama's best attempts at a no-holds-barred blame-Bush approach --- from continued economic doldrums to Fast and Furious gunwalking tactics, there seems to be no problem that President Obama didn't "inherit" --- it appears that Americans are already starting to look back on President Bush with at least a little more fondness.

The WashExaminer caught this in the latest NBC News/WSJ poll: slowly but surely, President Bush’s approval ratings are on the up and up.

Deep in the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll just published is the first hard evidence that the nation is softening on the 43rd president run out of Washington by Obama and still the target of the current president’s efforts to blame somebody for the rotten economy.

According to the poll, 36 percent of the nation has a very positive to somewhat positive view of the former president, a 10-point surge since he retired to Crawford, Texas after two terms. For a year and a half Bush languished in the poll, but has recently ticked higher, though 45 percent still view him negatively. But that’s better than the 53 percent who viewed him poorly after Obama took office, said pollster Peter Hart and Bill McInturff.

Not bad, considering that Bush has largely removed himself from major public view (in order to do things like work with the Wounded Warrior Project, so awesome), while Obama has done everything under the sun to capitalize on the country’s exasperation near the end of the Bush era.

Honestly, President Obama couldn’t even ease off the blame-game for a day when President Bush visited the White House a month ago for his portrait unveiling — Obama just had to remind everyone how horrible the economy already was when he came into office. Awkward.

When the act that follows you is a complete disaster, you look good in comparison. I know several obama voters that hated Bush, but now would be happy to have Bush instead of bambi.

I don’t understand why this poll was taken since Bush has already served his two terms.

We don’t need any RINOs in office anymore, but only tried and true Conservatives.

And who would that be? Who's this "tried and true Conservative" who will ride in and save the republic? What garbage. There's not a conservative currently in the public eye who hasn't been called a RINO in this forum.

Calling Bush a RINO shows how stupid and uninformed you are.

Yes, I miss him but I didn’t like him and I don’t like Romney but I won’t miss Obama.

Any poll comparing the two has to factor that Bush’s numbers followed 8 years of 100% negative press coverage and Obama’s 3 years of 100% positive press coverage. Any negative Obama coverage was because he wasn’t Marxist enough.

Well, Fear Not FRoiend; Romney is the presumptive nominee.

For those who would like to whitewash Dumbo Dubya's disgraceful administration - hate to break it to you but there are a number of folks who have keen memories of this clown and who won't keep quiet about the many disgraces he perpetrated. See below for just one of many.

America will get around to it (if the republic lasts long enough).

” there are a number of folks who have keen memories of this clown and who won’t keep quiet about the many disgraces he perpetrated. See below for just one of many.”

Thanks for the reminder. And you are right, there are many more than the No Student Left Learning legislation: amnesty, MediPill, amnesty, TARP, amnesty, “Patriot” act, amnesty, failure to veto spending bills that balooned under a Republican president/congress, amnesty, “Islam is a religion of peace”, amnesty, pledging billions of American taxpayer money to Africa, amnesty ....

Every time I see a “one day in the life of a Bushbot” thread reemerge, I think of the damage done to the conservative cause under Bush.

The GOP has the most far left nominee in it’s history right now, a man who actually left the party because it was too right wing by the late 1970s for his politics.

History will treat Bush well. Overall, a pretty damn good president in a difficult time.

Bush's biggest fault was his reluctance to defend himself.

Bush is the GOP’s Jimmy Carter. Just like Democrat candidates wouldn’t be caught dead campaigning with Carter, no
Republican who wants to win would have W on the podium with him.

That’s what happens when a president presides over the biggest recession since Hoover. And don’t tell me Bush didn’t share the blame for the Bush crash. The housing bubble happened on his watch — it went on for years during his presidency, and he fanned the flames with his liberal policy of encouraging no-down-payment loans for poor minorities.

He was a liberal and a failure, and the idea that he’s “regaining popularity” is known to be bunk, by GOP politicians — that’s why they don’t want to be seen with him.

Total BS. Bush haters prove how completely ignorant and brain-dead they enjoy staying.
