By LARRY O'DELL Associated Press RICHMOND, Va. - Virginia Republican leaders on Thursday denounced the U.S. Supreme Court's decision upholding President Barack Obama's health care overhaul as an assault on individual freedom, while a top Democrat said the ruling clears the way for improved access to health care.
The court ruled 5-4 that the law requiring individuals to buy health insurance or pay a penalty is constitutional. Attorney General Kenneth Cuccinelli had argued to the contrary in a separate lawsuit that was tossed out by a federal appeals court.
"This is a dark day for American liberty," Cuccinelli said in a written statement minutes after the Supreme Court issued its ruling. Virginia Leaders React to Supreme Court Ruling on Affordable Care Act
Those who worship him don’t care if this law makes everyone take a dump at the same time or be fined PLUS limits your amount of toilette paper. And that may be in there for all I know. They see this as a victory for obama and nothing else.
Cuccinelli calls high court decision ‘dark day for American liberty’
As you know, this morning the Supreme Court of the United States voted to uphold President Obamas healthcare plan. Ironically, the Court upheld the law based on it being a massive tax hike on Americans, which of course is the exact opposite of what the President argued when he pushed the plan through on a party-line vote in the Senate in 2009. Whatever the reasoning, our nation now stands on the verge of witnessing a bureaucratic takeover of our entire health care system.
Todays Supreme Court decision to uphold President Obamas disastrous healthcare law is detrimental to the Virginia economy, our nation’s prospects for economic recovery and the free-market system. And now, there is ONLY ONE WAY to fix what happened: Elect Mitt Romney the next President of the United States.
Governor Romney has committed to taking immediate action to repeal and replace Obamacare on day one of his administration, and that is why this election is so critical. Its going to be a clear choice between President Obamas big government takeover, accompanied by skyrocketing costs and tax increases, and Governor Romneys faith in free markets and consumer choice. With Governor Romneys leadership, we can replace Obamacare with healthcare solutions that put patients and doctors, not bureaucrats, in charge of healthcare in America and without sacrificing American jobs in the process.
But before that can happen, Mitt Romney has to win this November. And that means he has to win Virginia. Thats going to take all of us working together from today through November. So if you havent already, please visit www.MittRomney.com to find out how you can get involved. Todays decision should remind all of us that elections matter. And this Novembers election matters more than any election in our modern history.
On day one, Governor Romney will taking immediate action to repeal and replace Obamacare, but he needs your help to make that happen! There is ONLY ONE WAY to stop this law: Elect Mitt Romney. Please visit www.MittRomney.com and lets win this election and get our economy back on track, and Americans back to work!
