Sounds like a high value target tagged by domestic Jihad.I have no way of knowing right now, but it’s usually safe to assume these days.

That, too,is a distinct possibility. We'll be able to reach a better informed opinion when we see the perp and learn his name.

So the Soldier had been caught doing something illegal, and was probably going to lose money, rank, or both, and possibly face jail time and discharge.

The Army lets people who have been caught breaking the law “hang out” with the rest of the unit, go to work everyday, etc, while they await trial.

The even let people on charges for child pornography or drug distribution stay within the unit on some level and go about their business and interact as normal.

A Soldier here in Missouri had federal charges on him for child porn and was awaiting trial. He wasn’t even barred from attending Company parties where children and families were present, as he was innocent until proven guilty. A St Louis newspaper reported he went AWOL in January 2012.

It is puzzling how the Army does this. I am really surprised incidents do not happen more often...Soldier facing charges and working closely with the people that are prosecuting him, knowing he will soon have his life taken away. It isn’t the fault of the Chain of Command the Soldier is facing charges, it his own, but often they do not see it that way.

Very sad.

We had a guy like that in one of my old companies. He was accused of possession of child porn. He was at the company every day, usually pulling CQ duty. Then his trail came and he was sent to Leavenworth for 4 years.

You may be right, but don’t forget Generation Xbox is now Army Strong.

My mommy and daddy didn’t make me take my consequences. Now I have been caught selling drugs to other Soldiers, and and a going to be discharged after I go to prison.

Well, Call of Duty made me the man I am today, and my smug Battalion Commander is going down with me.

My husband had a guy in his unit who tested positive for cocaine and was on charges and awaiting trial, just hanging out.
They allowed him to stay out of pretrial confinement until he hired a man to threaten people in the unit during formation one day.

He rolled up to the formation in a car with a scary looking dude and showed everybody his gun, and told them all he was not going to prison. He also stated he would kill the families of the CO and 1Sg.

They put him in prison to await trial after that. Suprisingly.

He must’ve been a dealer. I had a Soldier come up hot for cocaine, but it was all handled administratively. He was a great Soldier, truth be told. He kept his head down and worked hard afterwards. I was told not too long ago that he came up hot for cocaine a second time. Total waste...

We had another guy in a different Platoon who was a full-on dealer, though. He did go to prison, but not just for dealing. There was another dirtbag drug-user who was kicked out of the Army who apparently owed the dealer money. The dealer kidnapped, tortured, and killed him. No great loss to humanity, but still pretty messed up. That dealer/murderer guy is now making big rocks into little rocks at Leavenworth and will be for a very long time.

Oh, and here is the story.

Here's some crazy coincidence for you: that Fort Lewis Ammo Supply Point the article mentions? My company had guard detail on the gate for that facility, so our own guys discovered his body. Freaky weird.

Makes me wonder if we have to now add the “don’t murder senior officers” blurb into the ever-expanding safety brief...

Wow, so scary and sad. Drugs drugs drugs ain’t they fun? Ft Lewis has certainly earned some attention lately, hasn’t it?

We have 2 sons who both see only the best parts of Military service. The oldest is almost 16 and I know he would love to join the Military.

I just don’t want him to join. It isn’t my choice and he will do as he wishes. I am not scared he will die like a man fighting the good fight with his buddies overseas...but fall prey to the totally crazy stuff that happens to Soldiers because they are young or dumb or both. Even really intelligent senior officers do unexplainable things that leaves the whole world wondering what on earth is happening to the military. My husband says society is degrading and we are all along for the ride.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what happened in this incident. Not a good interesting, either...the sad interesting of tragedy and wasted lives and senseless death.

Could it be that the man’s name is Abdul? ( Just wondering.)

Could be. Could also be Zach Smith.

I have witnessed too much crazy from white folks, as well.

The Army is still treating Maj. Nidal Hassan with kid gloves.

I don’t expect the Army ever to treat our enemies, foreign and domestic, the way they should be treated.

Panchetta is too busy trying to make Soldiers pay for health care and celebrating sodomy to give two sh&*$ about real Soldiers getting killed at their own duty stations.

The other soldiers involved in the shooting have not been identified. NBC News reported that the soldier accused of shooting and killing his commander faced court martial and possible discharge due to criminal charges.

NBC News, citing U.S. military officials, said the shooter shot his battalion commander and firing three shots to the head and two shots to the chest before turning the gun on himself. The shooter is not expected to survive, according to NBC News.

The shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. at the corner of Letterman and Armistead streets. A third soldier was slightly wounded in the incident.

A soldier from Hutchinson scheduled for sentencing Friday in Reno County District Court was reportedly involved in a shooting Thursday at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Sentencing Friday for Ricky G. Elder, convicted of aggravated battery, was postponed after one of Elder’s family members called his attorney, Les Hulnick of Wichita, and said Elder was killed in “a tragedy” at Fort Bragg, Hulnick told The News.

Elder was scheduled to appear at 8:30 a.m. Friday before Reno County District Judge Trish Rose for sentencing on a felony charge of aggravated battery for punching Deborah M. Keough-Douglas, 29, in the face April 4, 2010, at Grand Slam sports bar in Hutchinson. The incident reportedly caused $60,000 in medical bills for Douglas.

Court records indicate Elder was initially charged with both intentional and reckless aggravated battery, alleging great bodily harm.

In September 2010, he pleaded innocent and waived his right to a speedy trial prior to being deployed to Afghanistan. Stephen Maxwell, senior assistant district attorney, previously reported that Elder would face the charges upon completing his military duty.

Elder pleaded guilty to reckless aggravated battery in November 2011, and court records indicate sentencing was scheduled for March due to Elder’s military service. The sentencing was delayed and rescheduled for Friday.

Hulnick, Elder’s attorney, said the court allowed Elder “a fair amount of leave” because he was serving his country. Hulnick thought Elder was supposed to stay in the Army until this month and was “about to get out.” He said the sentencing was postponed because Elder’s death could not be confirmed, except for a phone call from a family member.

Elder’s family members could not be reached for comment. The Facebook page of his brother, Chad Elder, included comments from numerous people offering condolences for his loss.

Army officials at Fort Bragg said they expected to release more information about the shooting in the coming days. Special agents from the Army Criminal Investigation Command are investigating.

Ricky Elder is a 2004 graduate from Hutchinson High School.
