Eastern U.S. storms leave 2 dead in Va., 2 million without power

Violent evening storms following a day of triple-digit temperatures wiped out power to more than 2 million people across the eastern United States and caused two fatalities in Virginia — including a 90-year-old woman asleep in bed when a tree slammed into her home, a police spokeswoman said Saturday.

Widespread power outages were reported from Indiana to New Jersey, with the bulk of the service interruptions concentrated on Washington, D.C., and the surrounding areas. Earlier Friday, the nation’s capital reached 104 degrees — topping a record of 101 set in 1934.

No storms and two power outages in two days here in southern Michigan.

Clearly we need to close more of those filthy coal fired plants.

No doubt they are suffering. God bless and keep them. However, the thread was about the violent storm that passed thru last nite. A lot of damage and no power for a huge area. This is dangerous for the elderly such as my mother. It’s going to be 100 degrees today and more storms tonite.

Let the fun begin in Mordor-on-the-Potomac today: Orc vs. Uruk-hai over the spoils at the local 7-11.

The local 7 11 was the only thing opened and people were walking out double fisted with coffee cups.

topping a record of 101 set in 1934.

Some pretty extreme weather swings in that decade. Michigan's highest and lowest temperatures were recorded only a year apart in that decade. I believe the greatest snowfall of some 36 feet was near Ontonagon in 1933 or so.

It’s a shame a tree like that didn’t fall on the Supreme Court building. The symbolism would have been worth the cost of rebuilding the structure. I hope they can get power back to the ordinary people and families in the area soon - 100 degrees is no joke for the elderly.

Coincidental with having a marxist in the White House, it seems.

“Coincidental with having a marxist in the White House, it seems.”

The massive storm, called a derecho, developed near Chicago and proceeded to DC, leaving destruction in it’s wake. Sound familiar?

Get used to storms, fires, hurricane force winds, floods. God is starting to lay the hammer down on this country for turning its back on him, and also electing a muzzie who hates Israel. It’s only going to get worse.
