I'm a Tea Party Nose Holder

By Mr. Curmudgeon

Recently, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Congress has the power to do just about anything it desires provided it's called a tax. It's hard not to notice that the Progressive march toward totalitarianism in America has a decidedly bipartisan feel. Chief Justice John Roberts, who wrote the high court's majority opinion, is an appointee of "compassionate conservative" George W. Bush.

This ruling positions the Tea Party as the only alternative to our broken two-party system.

At the center of the controversy, stands the individual mandate, which orders every American to participate in government-run health care or face fines or imprisonment.

I know this is an election year, and most Americans are used to pretending that presidential elections highlight the "stark contrasts between the two parties," but the Supreme Court's ObamaCare ruling and the histories of both presidential candidates belay that tired fantasy.

The presidential contest pits the father of the individual mandate against his protege. The father, of course, is Mitt Romney. The Republican faithful counter that Romney and congressional establishment Republicans have pledged to "repeal and replace" Obama and Pelosi's dictatorial abomination. It's the "replace" part of the equation that should give us pause.

That said, I intend to hold my nose and vote for Romney for one reason and one reason only: The Supreme Courts' health care ruling serves as a recruiting tool, adding more Americans to the Tea Party army. If, as in the midterm elections of 2010, Tea Party candidates head to Washington, the Progressive wing of the Republican Party will be hard pressed to ignore their power.

If the high court says Congress has unlimited power to bleed taxpayers dry, the acronym "Taxed-Enough-Already" takes on greater meaning and urgency.

The Tea Party must intensify its crusade to repeal the tenure of big-government politicians in both parties and replace them with small-government constitutionalists.

That requires a greater Tea Party presence in the House and Senate, and that means a Tea Party overthrow of the Progressive wing of the GOP.

"The Congress's having power without control—to borrow money on the credit of the United States; their having power to appoint their own salaries, and their being paid out of the treasury of the United States, thereby, in some measure, rendering them independent of the individual states; their being judges of the qualification and election of their own members, by which means they can get men to suit any purpose; together with Col. Mason's wise and judicious objections —are grievances, the very idea of which is enough to make every honest citizen exclaim in the language of Cato, O Liberty, O my country!"

I'm personally done with federal government, just like the original anti-federalists.

You kick that dead whale down the beach. I have other things to do.

While we’re thinking about our Liberties, we need to remember the election is also about the CIC in charge of the Military, our Country’s Heroes.

You can blame Pres. Bush for many things, but this decision by Roberts was so out of left field, I don’t think its fair to point the finger at 43. I did NOT hear ONE Conservative pundit criticize the choice of Roberts when it was made. In fact, it was quite the opposite. Up until now, one of the things Conservatives pointed to in support of “W” were his SCOTUS selections. IMO, I think Pres. Bush was probably just as surprised as the rest of us.

Yes We Did ,I do not think some realize How BIG.

Incredibly big. Let's see what does the decision do:

  1. Says that the power to mandate can be implemented as a tax.
  2. It then follows that taxes may now be placed on things not done/bought.
  3. It further sets precedent that the Courts may alter laws.
  4. It virtually guarantees an unlimited government, via the current "commerce clause" and the new "taxes."
  5. It further cements the current government in its contra-constitutional mindset: if we can get away with it for long enough then it's Constitutional.
  6. It legitimizes a level of state surveillance on non-crime committing citizens in a manner that would make Stalin proud: the IRS now has open access to your bank records.
  7. As per the above, you are now considered guilty until you are proven innocent: this is the only way to justify the above.

This is the year CONSERVATIVES got to get behind the GOP... if we go vote for the 3rd parties — we will lose more!!

What's the point in voting GOP if the GOP is offering Obama... just in a lighter shade of fail?
If that's who they're going to run, then they'll not get my vote. Remember NY-23!

The only response I have ever received from a congressman was, “Send money,” paraphrased.

Do you imagine that CCG is going to be THE vote that makes the difference? Or you? Or me?

What makes you so bitter?

Take a deep breath and just don't play the game anymore.

Based on twenty years of GOP idiocy, I have little faith in Romney keeping his word and killing the law. That said, I will not commit my vote to Romney until I see who he selects as running mate.

The only reason I voted for “Insane McCain” was Sarah Palin.

“Bloodshed is theabsolute very last resort, if you don’t vote then may the chains of your slavery weigh lightly upon you & may the rest of us forget you were ever our countryman.”

I don’t think that quote was for voting, it was for rebellion. Samuel Adams said this in a speech to gather support for rebellion against the King, August 1st 1776.

So, back at ya:

If all you are going to do is vote, may the chains of your slavery weigh lightly upon you & may the rest of us forget you were ever our countryman
