White House salaries have jumped by nearly $5 million in the three years since Barack Obama became president, official figures show.

The 468 people who work at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue earn $37.8 million, the White House's annual report to Congress shows. That compares to $33.1 million in George W. Bush's last year in the Oval Office, an increase of 14.1 percent.

The report was released at 4.39 p.m. Friday, a notorious time for dumping bad news just before a weekend. By statute it hhad a July 1 deadline.

The White House payroll is up nearly 2 percent on last year from $37.1 million and the number of employers is also up by a similar percentage, up from 454.

The Obama White House has 139 employees who make more than $100,000 a year. The top scale, $172,200, goes to his senior advisors, including Chief of Staff Jack Lew, Press Secretary Jay Carney, Senior Advisor David Plouffe, Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett, National Security Advisor, Thomas Donilon and Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer.

The highest-paid employee on First Lady Michelle Obama’s 12-member staff, Chief of Staff Christina Tchen is also paid $172,200. …

By statute, President Obama’s salary is $400,000, and Vice President Joe Biden is paid $221,100.

White House officials did not return telephone calls seeking comment about the fatter 2012 payroll. …

By statute it had a July 1 deadline.

I’m not sure why that was included or relevant. It seems obvious that we’ve reached the point of lawlessness and unaccountability in government, where I’d more have expected simply a big FU from the White House. (That'll be next term)

Sigh...

Public service should often be an unpaid, volunteer work. Otherwise, who is served other than one’s own interests? Having a staff of 12 servants, each making a hundred grand a year, seems a bit much. Failing that, the official rate of inflation should include the salaries of WH employees.

And, that’s just the “over-the-table” stuff.

Your soul is an appalling dump heap
Overflowing with the most disgraceful
Assortment of deplorable rubbish
Imaginable, mangled up in tangled up knots

You nauseate me, Mr. Barach
With a nauseous super naus
You’re a crooked jerky jockey and,
you drive a crooked horse
Mr. Barach

You’re a 3 Decker sour kraut and toad stool sandwich
With arsenic sauce!

Who controls the budget for WH staff? Does the Pres. just have a big blank check book? Why can’t congress(the house) set some spending limits?

I find myself now not able to sleep well because I am beginning to believe that we have lost our nation to fraud and deceit. In my town, I look around at the vulnerable people when I go to Save-A-Lot, the Dollar Store or other places where the most vulnerable go to get more for their money. The population has changed..Now, it is not just the most unfortunate but the upper middle class I see in those stores. As I shop there, I wonder how many know that we may have come under dictatorship. Whatever doubt I had about that evaporated when Roberts showed his hand. Some say he was just being sure the people pay the price for their voting choices..I always thought Supreme Court Justices were there to follow the Constitution. We really do not know anything about Obama..Does that trouble enough of our citizens. Who is he, really, and what about his past history which is under lock and key? He may be an angel but he could also be a devil. This I do know. The people who work their hearts out every day trying to make a living in the private sector are losing out quickly. The government monster has grown fat on the money they have earned which is being confiscated through unfair and unjust taxation and it is now going to get much worse very quickly (White House workers got 14% raises). All we see and know in America now is “Presidential Power.” Just how quickly will we become a third world nation if this does not change? We have a lot of Hispanics in my town and those little children are just adorable. I look at them and I wonder whether they know what is ahead for them in this new Amerika. Do they really believe they will have that wonderful life under dictatorship? I hope this developing nightmare can be turned back at the ballot box..If not, then??????????

Good question and one I’d sure like to see answered. Couldn’t help but notice there is a salary of $136,134 for an ethics advisor. That’s one salary and position right there that’s not needed!!! Or restated - it IS needed but obviously not a competent person in the position right now.
