If not Mitt....
Andrew McCarthy | Vanity

Posted on 07/01/2012 6:22:21 PM PDT by Wagonboy

Columnist Andrew McCarthy gives us what probably is the most important question regarding the upcoming presidential election now that Mitt has won the GOP race, “…I will enthusiastically support his candidacy. For my friends who have hesitation on that score, I’d just ask you to keep four things in mind: 1.. Justice Scalia just turned 78 2.. Justice Kennedy will turn 78 later this year 3.. Justice Breyer will be 76 in August 4.. Justice Ginsburg just turned 81. We wish them all well, of course, but the brute fact is that whoever we elect as president in November is almost certainly going to choose at least one and maybe more new members of the Supreme Court — in addition to hundreds of other life-tenured federal judges, all of whom will be making momentous decisions about our lives for decades to come. If you don’t think it matters whether the guy making those calls is Mitt Romney or Barack Obama, I think you’re smokin’ something funky ...” So for anybody who is thinking of not voting because your favorite didn’t get nominated, or writing in a candidate who can't win, imagine this: SUPREME COURT JUSTICE ERIC HOLDER or CHUCK SCHUMER or HILLARY CLINTON.

I’m not voting for Mittens not because he “wasn’t my favorite.” But because he is a usurper, a pathological liar, and a big government progressive who will nominate judges “in the mold of John Roberts.”

He’s more likely to nominate justices in the mold of John Paul Stevens and David Souter.

Who will you write in or support?

Which past GOP nominee did you support?

A-men. Look at his judicial record in Massachusetts.

Fair question actually.

I look forward to the reply.

We cannot vote for a lying backstabber who is the
author of RomneyCARE/ObamaCARE and who shamelessly
neither refutes it NOR acknowledges it.

Shame on the GOPe for stealing the election from the
people, as it did in 2008.

I used to foolishly believe that the party in control of the Presidency mattered when it came to judicial appointments.

That was BJR (Before John Roberts) though.

I’m voting for Mitt and praying for a Tea Party infested Congress.

I live on the left coast and will do what I can....as should we all.

Mittens will appoint more of the same affirmative action, Harvard liberals we now have sitting on the bench.

Do not forget what RINO means.

“barak obama thanks you for your vote.”

And your masters thank you for yours. And for your vote in 2016. And 2020. And so on and so forth. Well, it won’t go too much longer, considering the schmucks running things.

Obama will appoint much, much worse.

Just making that clear.

Obama has the media and the establishment in his pocket. Romney has ... Romney.

Vote for Romney. If he messes up, we can vote him out. We cannot vote out, any democrats. That is (much) tougher.

Pick wisely.

If we endorse Romney this time, the establishment GOP might take heart and nominate Lincoln Chafee or Olympia Snowe next time. After all, if we are willing to vote for anybody with an “R” after their name, they might as well continue this trend and nominate someone even more liberal. And what kind of judges would Chafee and Snowe select?

Unless we stop the trend, we will simply keep getting even worse and worse handbasket drivers as our nominee.

Voting for Romney may be great tactics, but it’s horrible strategy.

Exactly. Unless the GOP establishment owns us, we don’t have to sell them our vote. Mine’s not for sale. What will Romney give this country? Watered-down, middle of the road leadership? That would only hurt conservatism in the long run.

Vote tea party, vote conservatives, and take away Baracks’s power. That’s the way to win. I may not vote for any of the above on the presidential ballot, personally.

Does it really matter, now that we know that the purpose of the Supreme Court is to find for the government at all costs?

From Redstate, 2007:

Romney, despite his opposition to same-sex marriage, in May selected for a district court judgeship Stephen S. Abany, a former board member of the Massachusetts Lesbian and Gay Bar Association who organized the group’s opposition to a 1999 bill to outlaw same-sex marriage. Just two days before the nomination, Romney was lamenting the liberal tilt of the state’s bench, telling Fox News that ‘’our courts have a record here in Massachusetts, don’t they, of being a little blue and being Kerry-like.”

Talk about doing one thing and saying another.

Troubling Part #2

Another Romney choice for the bench is Marianne C. Hinkle, a registered Democrat who worked as an aide to Governor Michael S. Dukakis in the late 1970s and prosecuted John C. Salvi III in the 1994 Brookline abortion clinic shootings. Hinkle, in her application for the bench, describes herself as a longtime active member of Dignity/USA, a group that advocates for expanded gay rights in the Catholic Church and society generally.

Great. Nice moderate choice there, Mitty.

Troubling Part #3

Romney, asked if he has engaged in any horse-trading with Democratic politicians, said: ‘’So far I have not ever given any weight whatsoever to whether I think someone can make it through the Governor’s Council. I send them individuals who I feel are highly qualified and have the right judicial temperament related to crime and punishment.”

I was about to give him some leniency due to the makeup of the council, but he says it does not matter. He only cared about crime, but not other judicial issues? Wow.

Now, there were some good appointments too, so I want to be fair. But was the Mass court system not already filled with enough liberals? I’m sure there were more “moderate” choices available that would have still made it through.

Romney is a sure loser. If the GOP is to survive,
Romney will be dumped.
