Romney adviser: Health care not a tax ("Etch a Sketch" Adviser is back)

While Congressional Republicans have seized on the Supreme Court’s ruling that President Obama’s health care overhaul is constitutional as a tax, presumptive GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s top campaign strategist undercut that line of argument Monday, saying that the governor agrees with Mr. Obama that the law is not a tax.

“The governor has consistently described the mandate in Massachusetts as a penalty,” Eric Fehrnstrom, Mr. Romney’s strategist, said on MSNBC. “The governor disagreed with the ruling of the court; he agreed with the dissent that was written by Justice Scalia, which clearly states the mandate was not a tax.”

So, because Romney called it a “penalty” in Mass. to avoid saying “tax” when he did it there, he has to stick with “penalty” now so his past doesn’t get sullied with “tax”.

He says “repeal and replace” with Obamacaretax. “Replace” is the operative word. It will be Romenycaretax when this is over. He will always be Hussein Lite if he stops at “Lite”.

These Obama Butt suckers can call it anything they like.

IT”S MONEY COMING OUT OF MY POCKET>———Money that I cannot purchase a new car with—Money I cannot buy food with or pay my electric bill with.
I dont care if you call it a tax, a bill, or a friggin theft, it’s money coming out of our pockets and it isn’t going to help the economy, It is going to hurt the economy, just like everything else Obama and the Democrats have done in the last 4 years.

If he says it’s a tax, then he’s agreing with the SCOTUS liberals.

If he says it’s a penalty, then he’s agreeing with Scalia, Thomas and Alito.

What do you prefer? Either way he’s gonna catch heat for it on this website as we bicker and Obama backs in to another 4 years.

I realize facts have little place in an emotional argument but, the fact is that a mandate with attached penalty is not unconstitutional at the state level. It is at the federal level. His agreement with the dissent is not at all inconsistent with his action in Massachusetts. There are many programs acceptable at the state level that are not permissible at the national level.

Here’s the deal... if it’s not a tax then it has to be under the Commerce Clause which the majority of the court said was unconstitutional. That’s what he’s trying to say. The one thing it cannot be is not a tax and constitutional as a tax. It cannot “be” and “not be” simultaneously.

Thanks for the beautiful pictures. Seeing them them repeated again and again does not persuade me against Romney, but rather remind me of the early history of our country when George Washington was an aide to a British General and a leader of American forces fighting with the British Army. I suppose if someone had displayed a photo of him advising and assisting General Edward Braddock he would have later been disqualified for consideration as leader of American forces against the British. We have choices to make and at this moment in history we are still free to make them.
