The Obama campaign has seized on remarks made by Romney adviser Eric "Etch-A-Sketch" Fehrnstrom this morning on MSNBC, to the effect that the individual mandate in Obamacare (and Romneycare) is not a tax. Fehrnstrom allowed Chuck Todd to push him off message--and re-ignited the fears that conservatives have long had about Romney's will and ability to fight. In response, conservatives--who had just coalesced around opposition to what many now call "Obamatax": Mitt, start fighting, or give up and let someone else do it.
Fehrnstrom's point--in defense of Romneycare--was that the Supreme Court was wrong to uphold Obamacare under the taxing power. The individual mandate was never intended to be a tax, Congress never called it a tax, and it wasn't a tax in Massachusetts, either. Fine--but now that Obama's lawyers went to court and called it a tax, and Chief Justice John Roberts called it a tax (and spare us the non-distinction between "tax" and the "taxing power") Obamacare is, undeniably, a massive tax on the middle class. Obama lied. It's that simple.
The GOP primary is over, and this is not a mistake that Fehrnstrom can merely shake away. It's going to be used--and already is being used--by the Obama campaign to save itself from the tax argument, and to label Romney as a liar (when that label belongs squarely on Obama, who campaigned against Hillary Clinton's individual mandate in 2008). Perhaps this is why Rupert Murdoch has been calling openly for Romney to "drop...old friends from [his] team and hire...some real pros," as he did on Twitter yesterday.

Of course Rommney will fight the Obamacare tax penalty. He'll restructure it into a tax credit to do the same exact effect.
If Romney were to get hit by an asteroid and eraced from the planet, am I to believe the GOP would just say “WE back OBama!” and call it a day?

There are a number of ‘realistic’ options. Newt, Perry, Cain, Bachmann, and every other candidate who campaigned for the nomination. They were so realistic people sent them millions of dollars.

And you seriously think that would happen because? You have to face reality at some point. Romney didn't spend five years and millions of dollars to have it all fall apart in Tampa. He will have a small army keeping all the cats herded, and most of those cats WANT to be herded.
As much as I would like to have someone other than Romney, he is for all practical purposes the candidate now. Nothing is to be gained by wishfully thinking otherwise.
Mitt sees Obamatax as one thing only: a stepping stone to help him into the WH. Once there, Mitt has his heart’s desire, and all bets are off.
Gee, let's see. Mitt just spent five years and millions of dollars - including a fair chunk of his own coin - winnning the nomination. Do you seriously think he would, barring an incredible scandal or serious illness, walk away from it now?

If you haven’t yet seen (or watched in a while) Aaron Russo’s documentary, “AMERICA — From Freedom To Fascism (Full Length Documentary)” I recommend taking two hours to do so and while viewing, contemplate the narrative through the lens of the SCOTUS recent decision. Also note that Justice Roberts makes a brief appearance in this film! That was eerie. The IRS is massively expanded under ACA. Just how are we going to stop them without equal mass?

How is it a mistake? Despite the claims of John Roberts to the contrary, it IS a penalty, not a tax. The author of this piece is in the strange position of demanding Fehrnstrom run with Robert's distortion to score political points.
Scalia also said it is not a tax, in the dissent. Do we disagree with Scalia and agree with Roberts on this?
However, yes, Romney should consider firing this guy for stupid comments.

Mitt’s Plan
On his first day in office, Mitt Romney will issue an executive order that paves the way for the federal government to issue Obamacare waivers to all fifty states. He will then work with Congress to repeal the full legislation as quickly as possible.
In place of Obamacare, Mitt will pursue policies that give each state the power to craft a health care reform plan that is best for its own citizens. The federal government’s role will be to help markets work by creating a level playing field for competition.
Restore State Leadership and Flexibility
Mitt will begin by returning states to their proper place in charge of regulating local insurance markets and caring for the poor, uninsured, and chronically ill. States will have both the incentive and the flexibility to experiment, learn from one another, and craft the approaches best suited to their own citizens.
Block grant Medicaid and other payments to states
Limit federal standards and requirements on both private insurance and Medicaid coverage
Ensure flexibility to help the uninsured, including public-private partnerships, exchanges, and subsidies
Ensure flexibility to help the chronically ill, including high-risk pools, reinsurance, and risk adjustment
Offer innovation grants to explore non-litigation alternatives to dispute resolution
Promote Free Markets and Fair Competition
Competition drives improvements in efficiency and effectiveness, offering consumers higher quality goods and services at lower cost. It can have the same effect in the health care system, if given the chance to work.
Cap non-economic damages in medical malpractice lawsuits
Empower individuals and small businesses to form purchasing pools
Prevent discrimination against individuals with pre-existing conditions who maintain continuous coverage
Facilitate IT interoperability
Empower Consumer Choice
For markets to work, consumers must have the information and the power to make decisions about their own care. Placing the patient at the center of the process will drive quality up and cost down while ensuring that services are designed to provide what Americans actually want.
End tax discrimination against the individual purchase of insurance
Allow consumers to purchase insurance across state lines
Unshackle HSAs by allowing funds to be used for insurance premiums
