Gun Control: Second Amendment Under Fire at UN Conference
Townhall.com ^ | July 2, 2012 | Leah Barkoukis

Posted on 07/02/2012 5:37:58 PM PDT by Kaslin

One of the most important periods for the Second Amendment in recent history is upon us, as the opening meeting of the UN Arms Trade Treaty conference began this morning in New York. During the 26-day conference, world leaders are convening to finalize the terms of the ATT, which seeks to regulate the international arms trade and seriously threatens Second Amendment freedoms.

In a press kit that was released in June, the UN was obviously cognizant of the backlash surrounding Second Amendment rights, going so far as to include a "Myths & Facts" section, which states:

Photobucket

Also included in the press kit, however, was a report by the UN Coordinating Action on Small Arms titled, "The Impact of Poorly Regulated Arms Transfers on the Work of the UN," which blatantly contradicts the above "Fact." I posted on this earlier, but the report states that legally owned weapons should be regulated (along with everything from small arms and light weapons to helicopters, aircraft, tanks and heavy artillery) because of the "problem of diversion" or, transfer of weapons to the illicit market.

Who do we have to thank for dragging the U.S. into negotiations on this preposterous Treaty? Of course, the Obama administration, whose utter disdain for the Second Amendment seems truly unparalleled. The administration voted to support the talks in 2009, reversing George W. Bush's staunch opposition to the treaty back when the U.S. actually took state sovereignty seriously.

The 4th is a good day to remember that we are independent, and for a reason.

If Obama wants to start a Civil War, I cannot think of a better way to do it than to bring ion the Un to take away America’s rights.

HEY.... here is another opportunity to yield more liberty to national and global tyrants!

We cant miss an opportunity like this. All this freedom really is a burden, maybe this Administration and the UN can help ease it.

The Revolutionary War didn't start over a tax, it started over the attempted confiscation of arms.

Oblunder would do well to remember that.

We need to get the UN off of our soil and cut our ties and funding with them. These are evil looters from every hell hole imaginable.

There are too many folks in this country already trying to take away our guns. Truly if they want my ammo I will be happy to share some of right between their eyes.

My father fought in WWII and always told me as a child: “When the SHTF, shoot the blue helmets first”.

They'll ramp up their efforts (the anti-gun-ownership lobby will) as they sense the coming end of the O'Bunghole Monarchy, realizing that their window of opportunity is quickly closing, possibly for the next 20-30 years.

Don't you just love target practice? I know I do.

So the UN will be all over Obama and Holder's Fast & Furious program that illegally ran guns into Mexico without informing the Mexican government and resulted in the deaths of at least 300 Mexican citizens?

This will be great to see, I can't wait!

What difference will a treaty make when you have people like Obama and Holder who are willing to ignore federal and international law and help gun runners smuggle firearms into the hands of drug dealers for their own purposes?

The 4th is a good day to remember that we are independent, and for a reason.

On the 27th, they're supposed to have some sort of signing ceremony for the UN Small Arms Treaty.

Then the battle against ratification begins here.

Fast and Furious was likely intended to provide supporting evidence for this crap, but the libs are spinning the investigation and Issa as everything from partisan attacks to racism and avoiding the issue: the biggest, worst 'gunrunner' in the US is our Government.

In a press kit that was released in June, the UN was obviously cognizant of the backlash surrounding Second Amendment rights, going so far as to include a "Myths & Facts" section, which states...

Yeah, yeah, the UN isn't trying to ban guns... But, if, in a happy coincidence civilian ownership of guns is restricted or banned, the UN will be celebrating!

Last time I went to an outdoor range in Texas (no, I won’t say which one), about a third of the people were shooting blue helmet targets. At range. This was one serious group, too. Little talk except directly related to shooting, range clear, etc.

And by “at range,” I mean 200 yards with spotters.

It would take a million man army to try to disarm Texas. And it would fail...

It’s time that they pitch their tent somewhere else and that we disassociate ourselves from that useless organization.

If this keeps up, Americans are going to have to show the commie piggies at the U.N. what the Founding Fathers’ original intent of the Second Amendment is.

The Lady down in Texas told the congress, the Second amendment was put in place, so the public could protect itself from the government. Never has a truer statement been made.
