In less than a week, the citys $50 million crown jewel pool in Brooklyns McCarren Park has turned into a mini-war zone, where frightening melees have injured two cops and a lifeguard.
The Greenpoint pool reopened last week with a splashy ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring Mayor Bloomberg speaking of its illustrious past and bright future. But yesterday, hundreds of frustrated people were forced to stand in lines that stretched around the block as they waited to be searched by members of a force of 30 security officers that included 20 cops.
With temperatures flirting with 90 degrees yesterday, many got hot under the collar and took out their frustrations on the guards.
Im gonna come back and smoke your ass, a teenager ranted at a Parks employee who turned him away from the main gate.

New zeal to take guns away from law abiding citizens on the way. How else does the politician respond?
“Rodoldo Torres (inset), 20, one of three men arrested Monday for allegedly punching a cop in the face, was arraigned early today in night court on two counts of assault. Torres, who was still wearing his black and white swim trunks and a tank top, was released without bail.”
So you punch a cop in the face, and you don’t even have to post bail?
The citys had 28 years to get a proper security plan together for this pool, but they clearly failed, said Geoffrey Croft of NYC Park Advocates.
Entitlement idiot. If this community needs a security plan, they don’t deserve a publicly funded pool. Take away the toys from the miscreants. Tough luck for the rest. What a waste of millions of tax dollars.
The usual suspects?
Wrong. Have a look at the middle of Detroit (preferably in the daytime from the safety of your car) or just hang around our nation's Capitol or Baltimore or Philadelphia or Chicago after dark to get the picture.
Pretty bad people when they have to be SEARCHED before they go swimming!! ANIMALS......do animals realize they are ANIMALS?? Don’t think so.
Who the HELL is paying for 30 Security people and 20 COPS??? Just guessing that most of these people are on WELFARE.

If you need frickin’ SECURITY PLAN for a pool, then you don’t need a pool!
You are paying for it. Just like the free cell phone, oil assistance, extended jobless benefits, food stamps, bus service, job training, government schools, public housing, breakfast/lunch,and dinner at the government school, daycare, aftercare, and my new favorite...the “cash card”-a food stamp card that can be used for cigarettes, beer, and at casinos.
The safest way is from 80,000 feet through the cameras of a U-2.
Nope, we’re not paying for it. US Taxpayer is and has been tapped out.
Bernanke is paying for it by buying US Bonds at <2%. Gonna be ugly when that stops either way.
They be 'gentrified'. Says so right in the article. You don't want to know what it was like before.
From the article:
"This is supposed to be good, wholesome fun for the family. What is going on here?"
McCarren opened in 1936 and almost immediately gained the "crown jewel" title. It closed in 1984 because of the city?s budget woes and a history of violence. It reopened in a changed, gentrified neighborhood last Thursday.
From Web site:
The long-awaited reopening of McCarren Park pool has arrived. The 37,950-square-foot pool will be open daily 11am-3pm and then from 4pm-7pm.
Best of all, it’s FREE*!
* Recreation center membership ($150 per year for adults; $25 per year for seniors; free for children and teens under the age of 18) is required for the use of our indoor pools.
HOURS: 11am-3pm and 4pm-7pm
RULES: Click here (note: FOR ENTRY, YOU MUST SHOW UP IN SWIM GEAR)
ADRESS: 475 Lorimer St. between Driggs Avenue and Bayard
Of course, your car might still be stolen there. It is, after all, Brooklyn.
The reason the city has pools is to keep the natives cool -- "cooling centers" - how's that for a nice, Orwellian-sounding name? I guess without them people would have to swim in one of the miles of rivers surrounding the City, and that might be dangerous!
seems easy enough.
If you rob Peter to pay Paul, you will always have the support of Paul.
The left’s plan was to eradicate these people via abortion, contraception, and when they failed, welfare reform. They’ve had a small measure of success, with the Hispanics imported as replacements displacing blacks in many cities; they’ll re-double their efforts to confine the dwindling black population into ever-shrinking urban welfare reservations.
Could have bussed the entire community to Jones Beach for 5 years and used the pools as a world class skateboard park.
Someone should audit the books on the project and see where all the money went. My bet is union overtime.
When Hussein is finally deposed on Nov. 6th, these savages will riot in the streets, and cities will burn.
You’re probably right about where the money went.
NY libs don’t want these people at Jones Beach, and that was the price to keep them in their pens. Southerners have nothing on liberal northern whites when it comes to segregating the Civil War contraband.
NJ keeps them off the beaches with basic fees; apparently WIC cards won’t get you on the beach, and then there is the whole transportation issue. Asbury Park was destroyed by its accessibility from urban toilets.
Liberals are always surprised when they hand volumes of Shakepeare’s Complete Works to savages and the savages use the books as weapons.
And I'm looking forward to the wall-to-wall news coverage of it.
And a lot of the swimmers are bused in.
Wow...that's seriously big pool...now I understand why you need 20 lifeguards...
I have no idea why you would need 30 security guards after all I'm sure the "citizenry" that would use this wonderful taxpayer funded entitlement would be grateful and humble that their overlords would find it in their hearts to be so benevolent toward their needs...and not cause any problems at all...
Asbury is coming back, albeit slowly. The gay community came in and before the investors got involved the police had to move the locals back a few blocks.
Same thing as they did in Atlantic City.
Last I heard they were looking for money to demolish the partially-built hotel that was the centerpiece of the “comeback”; it was basically a large concrete skeleton. I suspect the “gay money” came with the condition that the area would be ethnically cleansed, and when nobody had the stones to do that the “gay money” went elsewhere. Atlantic City survives on casino revenues, not wealthy people moving into housing a few blocks from the permanent underclass.
Nobody with $10 in their pocket wants to live within 30 blocks of people who would kill you for $.10, but that is in fact the way it is.
WHAT’S WRONG WITH THE EAST RIVER? THEY CAN RANT, FIGHT, MAIM AND KILL ALL THEY WANT, AND THAT’S ALL THEY WANT, WHICH IS WHY THIS IS ALL GOING ON IN THE FIRST PLACE. Let the bastards move out of the US if they don’t like it; take Mayor Bloomers with them.
If they are in NYC and they're packing, they ain't law abiding citizens.
I too believe if obama loses the election there will be riots. And obama will do nothing to tamp down the anger. If he can’t have it, no one will.
Should’ve thrown the midget fascist into the pool and let Buckwheat’s piranhas eat him. His armed 500-lb gestapo, clown guards should’ve been tossed in first for appetizers.
