Obama urges immigration reform at July 4 citizen ceremony

(Reuters) - President Barack Obama used an Independence Day ceremony in which immigrants serving in the U.S. military became citizens on Wednesday to renew his election-year call for new immigration laws popular with an important part of his political base.

Wearing a red tie to celebrate the July 4th holiday at the White House, Obama addressed about two dozen foreign-born military personnel who were taking advantage of a program that offers them citizenship in return for their service.

Obama, who is running for re-election in November, seized the opportunity to talk up his recent order lifting the threat of deportation for hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants who came to the United States as children.

The move appealed to Hispanic voters, a major voting bloc that could swing the election to the Democratic incumbent in battleground states such as Nevada and Colorado.

"What a perfect way to celebrate America's birthday - the world's oldest democracy - with some of our newest citizens," Obama told the group of military members and their families, who came from countries including Mexico, Ghana, the Philippines, Bolivia, Guatemala, and Russia.

"You put on the uniform of a country that was not yet fully your own. In a time of war, some of you deployed into harm's way. You displayed the values that we celebrate every Fourth of July - duty, responsibility, and patriotism," Obama said.

You (foreigners) displayed the values that we celebrate every Fourth of July - duty, responsibility, and patriotism," Obama said.

What a pathetic liar...we celebrate our INDEPENDENCE from tyrannical rulers.

Here is a group of legal residents, who put it all on the line, stood up to defend this country, and have earned their citizenship. What better way to celebrate their sense of duty, commitment, and courage than to give citizenship away to anybody willing to steal it.

All immigration reform proposals contain some form of amnesty and it appears the only way to get the hispanic vote is to offer some form of amnesty.

Wearing a red tie to celebrate the July 4th holiday at the White House,

That's not exactly number #1 on the list of how Americans celebrate the 4th of July, if it's on the list at all. And the 4th is not about immigration. This poser is pathetic.

I wonder why he was wearing a “red” tie. Was Obama expecting the Chinese to show up?

Obama will just sit around and around sit around dreaming up new policies. His green jobs have been a bust, obama stimulus package was a bust,it offered short term soulutions, after the money ran out, the jobs started disappearing.Obama started out we will do case by case study, so about 300,000 can reamin here, dreamers he said will be 800,000 and news report show over 1 million. Fast and furious sent guns and cash to Mexico.About 200 Mexicans have been confirmed dead, on our side border agents have been killed by guns related to fast and furious.Obama is doing his best to keep Hispanics minds off of fast and furious, by offering programs to divert attention away from his scandals,Obama points Hispanics in the direction he wants them to go, and they happily.

Reuters) - While America’s debate over immigration has been dominated recently by crackdowns in states like Arizona and Alabama, California legislators are trying to turn that tide with a bill to protect illegal immigrants that they dub the “anti-Arizona.”Last week, the top U.S. court upheld the most controversial aspect of Arizona’s immigration statute: a requirement that police officers check the immigration status of people they stop, even for minor offenses such as jay-walking.

How many people are ever stopped for jay-walking ?

Enter California, a border state that is home to the largest number of illegal immigrants, most of whom are Hispanic, and is considerably more liberal than its neighbor Arizona.

A bill currently working its way through the California legislature would block local law enforcement from referring a detainee to immigration officials for deportation unless that person has been convicted of a violent or serious felony.

“California cannot afford to become another Arizona,” said California Assembly member Tom Ammiano, the bill’s sponsor. One of the bill’s sponsors, the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, calls the effort the “anti-Arizona.”

Critics have argued that Arizona’s law could lead to illegal racial or ethnic profiling of Hispanics in Arizona. Hispanics are the largest U.S. minority group, representing 16 percent of the population.

Supporters of the Arizona law say it is needed because the federal government has failed to secure the border with Mexico.

The California bill, which has the support of over 100 immigrant rights groups, police chiefs and mayors, was drafted not only as a symbolic counter to legislation in neighboring Arizona, but also to push back against a federal program called Secure Communities that shares the same principles as Arizona’s law, supporters say.

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, or ICE, established the Secure Communities program in partnership with local law enforcement agencies and the FBI to deport unauthorized immigrants.

Local authorities send fingerprints of those arrested to ICE, which says it prioritizes deporting individuals with criminal convictions. The program was credited as a factor in that agency’s highest-ever number of deportations, nearly 400,000 in 2011.

“(Secure Communities) has burdened our local governments and put even victims and witnesses of crime at risk of deportation, making us all less safe,” Ammiano said in a statement. “It has even mistakenly trapped U.S. citizens in our local jails for immigration purposes.”

The federal program has been responsible for deporting over 72,000 Californians, according to Ammiano, with 70 percent of those deported from the state having either no criminal conviction, or conviction for a minor offense.

Critics have lambasted the program for placing victims of domestic violence in deportation proceedings and deterring immigrants from reporting crimes committed against them.

SHERIFFS OPPOSE

But the California State Sheriff’s Association, which opposes the bill, said that state and local authorities cannot opt out of the Secure Communities program, and that ICE focuses on only the most serious cases, such as convicted criminals and repeat offenders.

The bill, already passed by the state Assembly in a 47-26 vote, now awaits a decision by the state Senate. That vote could come as early as this Thursday, but may be delayed until after legislators take a one-month summer recess beginning next week.

Any time a democrat or RINO talks about reform, especially comprehensive reform, or uses the words “broken” or “fix” when talking about a law, rule or the constitution, you can be sure there is a law or constitutional restriction standing in the way of them buying votes with taxpayer money or gaining personal power or profit for themselves, a friend, political supporter or relative.

Not one of them has the welfare or betterment of the nation in mind.

I have figured it all out....it’s the open borders vision of Global Marxism Soros and Obie want. No more, no less.

Tax a realtor in Milwaukee or a baker in Berlin to pay for a farmer in Zimbabwe or a seamstress in Mexico. It wants to unify the world’s wealth, monitor the masses with high technology, and unevenly tax the producers to pay for the others.

It’s pretty simple, a group of a few have all the controls of all the world’s wealth and they play favorites with their cronies and political allies.

What they don’t understand is that without freedom and self-interest, the GDP/GNP/World Economy shrinks as their is no motivation to grow a business with the heavy hand of government stealng your earnings.

Basically, Barbara Streisand, Dick Durbin and Rev. Wright will be the now aristocracy and you will work as their subjects....
