The Supreme Courts controversial decision last week to uphold the constitutionality of Obamacare is re-igniting the debate over the presidents health care overhaul and public funding of abortions.
Douglas Johnson, legislative director of the National Right to Life Committee, told the Free Beacon recently that there are a number of different components in Obamacare that would expand abortion as well as several provisions to fund abortion.
Johnson explained that abortion funding is always included unless its explicitly excluded.
He provided Medicaid as an example: Medicaid law doesnt say anything about abortion, so Medicaid began to pay for abortion on demand. According to federal law, abortions are medical services, he said.
The Hyde Amendment forbids federal funding of abortion, but does not cover the new provisions in the Affordable Care Act.
Direct appropriations, Johnson explained, fall outside the regular funding pipeline of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), which the Hyde Amendment covers.
In sworn testimony of October 2010, Johnson recorded the failure of two amendmentsStupak-Pitts and Nelson-Hatchto the House and Senate versions of the Affordable Care Act.
Each would have ensured that the law could neither directly fund abortion nor subsidize insurance plans including it.
President Barack Obama and then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.,) opposed these amendments, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) wrote a new version of the bill in order to avoid the Stupak-Pitts Amendment.
The Nelson-Hatch Amendment failed in the Senate.

Thank you Chief Justice for the coming murder of thousands of children. Not to mention the re institution of slavery by the Democrat party. I hope your 16 year old girl popularity contest works out well for you. I would take Benedict Arnold over you any day of the week!!!
why not tax every abortion. $1000000 tax payment per abortion. no pay?
go to jail
We neeed to make sure that people know this is the guy who has taken over the “health care” for our children and grandchildren — what a monster he is: http://www.jillstanek.com/2008/02/links-to-barack-obamas-votes-on-illinois-born-alive-infant-protection-act/
Correct me if I am wrong but Bart Stupac and a group of pro-life ‘RATs were promised by 0bama that 0bummercare would not include funding for abortion.
Maybe I am not understanding this correctly but this really is a an out and out lie by the admin as they quickly abandoned this promise.
0bamacare would never have passed without this lie.
Repeal it, and ALL of its provisions will be nullified. Then, start dismantling the bureaucracy that has already begun to balloon around Obamacare.
Yep. The most transparent administration is, in reality, just that occasionally.
Evil is as evil does.
They won't force a mother to kill her child, they just won't pay the "extra" cost .
Really ...quite transparent.
Stupak just wanted plausible deniability, pure and simple. He knew it was meaninglnless.
Washington insiders LOOOOOVE dead babies.
Conservatives are missing a big hammer that has been handed to them. Obamacare mandates that all medical records be submitted to a federal database. As a result it has eliminated the “right to privacy” established by Roe. Obamacare legislatively overtuned Roe v Wade and Roberts upheld it. I say we use it to hammer the murder advocates.
Plus, any “medical procedure” can be outlawed with the stroke of a pen. So, abortion can be eliminated with any change in political winds.
I hate Obamacare, so I want to hoist the left on their own petard!
