AUGUSTA, Ga. -- A would-be burglar is dead after deputies say a homeowner shot at him as he tried to break into his home.
This happened off Battle Row in Harrisburg early Friday morning.
The home isn't very telling, but if you take a closer look, you'll find more than four bullet holes. This is where deputies say an armed man walked up, put on a ski mask and tried to break in. The intruder's plot got foiled when the homeowner fired his gun from inside the house.
Clarence Ingram, who lives just down the street, said his initial reaction was, "Hit the deck."
Ingram figured out that something wasn't right.
"I just heard shots, I heard the dogs barking, and then I started hearing sirens, and I knew something was going on," he said.
But Ingram would not have guessed the suspect would become a victim in his own crime.
"It's just like your parents would say, 'Nothing good happens after 12.'"
Deputies say 26-year-old Bobby Lockhart saw the intruder outside and started firing without even going outside.
"It's an awful thing, but crime is an awful thing and, you know, America is beautiful, and crime needs to be cut," Ingram said.
“But Ingram would not have guessed the suspect would become a victim in his own crime.”
Say that again Ms newsperson. The burglar or thief, or mayhem maker became a victim in his own crime? Sorry, he got what he deserved. And different from Florida where Zimmerman is still rotting away awaiting a new bond hearing decision (due out today), the police said the shooting was justified.

The media does the job of giving sympathy to criminals that no one else will do.

They must have both been whites. If black, Al, Jesse, MSNBC, CNN would have had the homeowner convicted and sentenced already. We should be marching against the injustice done to Zimmerman in Florida. Just because the dead person was black. I don’t understand what new evidence was uncovered that they had to indite him after exonerating his actions??? Sick justice.
Jesse, Al and all the other racebaitin holder’s people “leaders” are too busy scratching out and stuffing their personal reparations in da sag pants while they can after realizing the their Good Ship Nobama is sinking. Its time for every MoFo for hisself, you know.
This should keep the incarcaration rate down, too.
It is truly astounding how low the rate of repeat is in cases such as this.

That's because newspapers and the media care about winning prizes, NOT about winning the respect and trust of their readers and viewers. Maybe conservatives should start giving out 'prizes'...

Maybe he was following the moving target and hit with multiple shots until the threat was removed.
I have often said that if I hear movement in my house, I will reach back and pat my wife to be sure she is in bed and then fire through the walls at the sound.
If it turns out to be a minor that will just have to be tough, he had no business in my home.

The more we shoot criminals, the less there are of them and crime will continue to fall. I like that.
The neighbor Ingram is black, but the story doesn't say if Lockhart is white or black or what race the burglar was (at the time of the report they were still trying to learn his name).
