Time for PMQs

I listened to Mark Levin's show the day before the 4th of July in which he talked about restoring constitutionalism in our three branches of government. It certainly piqued my interest especially in regard to abolishing the 17th amendment and restoring power to the states in appointing senators - a position I've supported for some time.

I sent Mr. Levin an email with my small suggestion for improving the sorry state of Congress. I'm also wondering what other Freepers thought of Levin's talk show that day.

The following is my email to Dr. Levin. I tried to put a bit of a British bite to it just for fun:

Dear Dr. Levin, Like you I am in high dudgeon over the Obamatax ruling and the noblesse oblige of our ruling class. I listened with great interest during your show about restoring constitutionalism in all 3 branches of the government. I could hardly disagree with any of your points particularly the abolition of the 17th amendment.

I would like to enlist in your cause by suggesting the adoption of PMQs in the House and Senate. As you well know PMQ refers to Prime Minister Questions in the British Parliament. I believe it would contribute greatly to the erudition of our legislators or at a minimum expose the hacks and charlatans for what they are.

At present our congressmen just talk and ramble and serve us their version of mashed peas. No one is ever really challenged. There is no real back and forth - point or counterpoint. Naturally, no teleprompters would be allowed. All combatants would have to rely on their wit and expertise thereby making the exercise mercifully short but nonetheless entertaining and informative. Majority and minority leaders of both houses could have a jolly go at it once a week just like the Wednesday PMQs across the pond.

I am sure in no time it would make for great reality TV; the only thing capable of penetrating the gelitaneous goo lodged between the auricular chambers of the common voter.

I am suggesting just one small step for conservative kind. Consider it an addendum to an addendum of your great thoughts and works. As always I wish you well in your God given gifts in helping to restore America's Constitution.

Would definitely have to go the convention route. No senator, much less 2/3, would vote for it.

I've been pushing this idea for presidential primary and/or general debates.

Having the candidate face a 1/2 hostile 1/2 friendly group of the elected officials they would have to deal with would force them to abandon shallow rhetoric in favor of substance.

Having a "town hall" style or Dianne Sawyer moderated debates are an embarrassment.

I'm a big fan of question time.
