Lawyers Have Already Drafted 13,000 Pages of Regulations for New ObamaTax Law

With the Supreme Court giving President Obama’s new health care law a green light, federal and state officials are turning to implementation of the law — a lengthy and massive undertaking still in its early stages, but already costing money and expanding the government.

The Health and Human Services Department “was given a billion dollars implementation money,” Republican Rep. Denny Rehberg of Montana said. “That money is gone already on additional bureaucrats and IT programs, computerization for the implementation.”

“Oh boy,” Stan Dorn of the Urban Institute said. “HHS has a huge amount of work to do and the states do, too. There will be new health insurance marketplaces in every state in the country, places you can go online, compare health plans.”

The IRS, Health and Human Services and many other agencies will now write thousands of pages of regulations — an effort well under way:

“There’s already 13,000 pages of regulations, and they’re not even done yet,” Rehberg said.

“It’s a delegation of extensive authority from Congress to the Department of Health and Human Services and a lot of boards and commissions and bureaus throughout the bureaucracy,” Matt Spalding of the Heritage Foundation said. “We counted about 180 or so.”

There has been much focus on the mandate that all Americans obtain health insurance, but analysts say that’s just a small part of the law — covering only a few pages out of the law’s 2700.

“The fact of the matter is the mandate is about two percent of the whole piece of the legislation,” Spalding said. “It’s a minor part.”

Much bigger than the mandate itself are the insurance exchanges that will administer $681 billion in subsidies over 10 years, which will require a lot of new federal workers at the IRS and health department.

“They are asking for several hundred new employees,” Dorn said. “You have rules you need to write and you need lawyers, so there are lots of things you need to do when you are standing up a new enterprise.”

For some, though, the bottom line is clear and troubling: The federal government is about to assume massive new powers.

Regulations are drafted, put out for public notice, modified and approved. It is a public process but only professionals have any knowledge of it. This process is dominated by leftist interest groups and rent-seeking industry groups.

The result is collectivism and cronyism, both of which are the enemies of liberty.

All true, but you left out the part where, after the rules are final, lawsuits challenging the rules are then brought in federal court, allowing the judiciary in on the action as well.

What I just came to realize, is obamacare is the END-ALL to the Constitution of The United States.

Read it and you too will agree!

13,000 pages wasn’t done overnight. Just like the original bill, all these pages were written and rewritten years ago.

You're right and that was a big oversight on my part.

In fact this is where the leftists often post their biggest gains.

The rulemaking strikes a certain balance between the leftists and the industry cronies. Then the leftists sue and some 'Rat-appointed judge gives them another bite out of industry's butt, AND awards the leftists buckets of money in attorney's fees to be paid by taxpayers.

It's quite a lucrative and effective scam, really.

Honestly, I don’t know how we can get our country back without doing the same thing the founders did.

The Founders first declared their independence from the tyranny that beset our country. It was only because the King rejected that, that a bloody war was fought to gain it.

Things could (and probably will) go much differently this time. The federal government doesn't have the muscle to stop one or several states from leaving the union, should they so choose that path.

It's looking more and more to me, that the beast in DC is going to push us in that direction. There's only so much a people can stand before they snap.

I’m not trying to be pessamistic because I want this monstrosity repealed more than ANYTHING, but it is hard for me to imagine people picking up guns and going into battle over this. So many are just indifferent and lazy, they don’t want to get up from their lazyboy and football games.

Someone posted a verse that reminds me the real reason we're in this spot. It's precisely because we are afraid a) to stand against injustice which b) involves discomfort, pain, and/or death. In short we've become used to evils and some of us at least are quick approaching the point where the evils are not sufferable anymore -- as the Declaration of Independence put it -- this is where we are, this is where we decide what sort of a person we are, and what sort of a people we will be.

Proverbs 14:34
(HSCB) (AMP)
Righteousness exalts a nation,
but sin is a disgrace to any people.
Uprightness and right standing with God (moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation) elevate a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.

They were fighting for more than a year before the Declaration was signed.

Ok. So which will come first in our time - the declaration, or the fighting?

Don't know.

In my more cynical moments I think that any 'sparks' of violence will be contained and reported as "terrorist activities." -- Containment can come a number of ways, cutting the cell-phone and internet of that area would be the most logical step and head off the majority of info-leaks, also I wouldn't put it past screening all outgoing mail and packages for a time, say 6 months, with particular persons put on a "always check" list.

I think it will, in the end boil down to two things: are we-as-a-nation going to do righteousness or wickedness, and how many will buy into the lie of the-state-as-god.

Everytime I think about this “horror” I get sick to my stomach and want to cry.

You could take up alcoholism instead.... [/sarc]

But I actually foresee a lot of profit in the alcohol production/distribution business just about now.

I happen to agree with you my friend, but what you are stating here is exactly the reason why the left, socialists, liberals, progressives, communists or by what ever flavor they like to be called want to invalidate the second amendment and remove any and all defensive weaponry from public ownership.

The government’s gun running scheme in to Mexico under the pretense of fast and furious was nothing more then a ruse to give the second amendment a bad rap. Soon after a border patrol agent was killed and it came to light that it was done with a weapon originating in the US, Hillary wasted no time vehemently speaking out that this country is in dire need of much tighter gun control, probably knowing quite well who was doing the gun running and who authorized it in the first place. Matter of fact even the Mexican government for the longest time did not know what was going on.

Luckily Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley who smelled a rat blew the case wide open and the investigation started. Any one who is following the news knows that the Attorney General has been withholding information about this scheme and chances are better than good should all the information come to light it could very well implicate every one along the chain of command including our Fearless Leader and probably including the ones who are pulling his strings, as I doubt that he is smart enough to pull this crap off all by himself.

I also have very little doubt that some one told Holder to keep his mouth shut, if he knew what was good for him. You may want to recall Ron Brown former Secretary of Commerce who died in a plane crash and was found with a mysteriously hole in his head. You may want to keep in mind that the leaders of a dictatorial banana republic only feel safe if they have to deal with a public who have no way of defending themselves and of course this has been done time and time again, and the first step is the removal of any type of weapons. Now since this gun running scheme did not pan out too well as planed our Fearless Leader decided to take different route to eventually disarm the American public and diverting the public wrath away from himself or the ones who most likely are pulling his strings and let some one else do the dirty work for him in this case the UN so he can claim he had nothing to do with it.

It’s Finally Here: The UN Meeting To Take Your Guns!

Monday, July 2, 2012 was a day that seemed to pass for most people with chatter about blazing heat, ravaging storms, wildfires, and the ever-present election year rhetoric. It was far more ominous than that, as “dignitaries” from all over the world convened at United Nations Headquarters in New York for a month-long strategy session. Their mission? Hammer out and then adopt the Socialist Dream: a global gun control treaty that would place the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution on the dusty back shelf when it comes to your gun rights—if it retained any relevance whatsoever!

And just in case anyone has bought into false arguments that this “International Arms Trade Treaty” is only about military weaponry in foreign lands having nothing to do with your personal, U.S. civilian collection, consider that a number of U.S. Representatives recently sent a letter to Secretary of State Hilary Clinton and U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice. The coalition, led by Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ), cited advancing “human rights” as a goal that required the United States to “take a leadership role in pushing for a strong, verifiable Arms Trade Treaty.” In their minds, such a treaty should include “controls on a comprehensive list of weaponry, including small arms and light weapons,” as well as controls on ammunition.

So, come next elections be careful who you vote for as the much treasured American Dream is quickly disappearing in the distance, made possible and helped along by the left, who has only your best interest in mind.
