Army Orders 1,100 Recon Scout XT Robots From ReconRobotics

$13.9 million order is the largest in the company’s history

EDINA, Minn. – ReconRobotics, Inc. announced today that it has been awarded a $13.9 million contract for 1,100 Recon Scout® XTmicro-robot kits from the U.S. Army Contracting Command on behalf of the U.S. Army Rapid Equipping Force. This is the largest order in the company’s history and, in terms of the number of units, it is also the largest micro-robot order ever issued by the U.S. Army. In addition, the company announced two accessory orders totaling nearly $1 million from the Rapid Equipping Force. ReconRobotics plans to complete deliveries on these orders by May 31, 2012.

"We are honored that the U.S. Army has once again chosen our Recon Scout XT system for their dismounted troops,” said Ernest Langdon, Director of Military Programs for ReconRobotics. "Although these 1.2-lb robots are exceptionally small, they will play a big role in providing our warfighters with increased situational awareness and standoff distance as they conduct operations in active combat theaters."

Over the last six months, ReconRobotics has received U.S. military orders for 1,800 Recon Scout XT kits. In addition, more than 350 law enforcement agencies, worldwide, rely on Recon Scout robots toconduct reconnaissance during high-risk tactical operations. Several characteristics make the Recon Scout XT ideally suited to military and police operations: the weight of the entire XT system (robot and handheld Operator Control Unit) is just 3 pounds (1.3kg), and the robot can be deployed in five seconds and thrown up to 120 feet (36m). The XT is also exceptionally quiet and is equipped with an infrared optical system that allows the operator to explore an environment in complete darkness.

About ReconRobotics, Inc. ReconRobotics is the world leader in tactical, micro-robot systems. The company’s Recon Scout® Throwbot® systems saves lives by providing immediate situational awareness and greater standoff distance to warfighters and law enforcement personnel. These capabilities protect personnel from hidden threats, enhance mission planning and execution, and minimize collateral damage. The company was formed in 2006 to commercialize robotics technology developed at the University of Minnesota Distributed Robotics Laboratory under funding from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). ReconRobotics is based in Edina, Minnesota, USA and markets its products through a distribution network in 33 countries.

It’s 1.2lbs. So will the heel of a size ten steel shank boot do the trick or do these things have self defense goodies?

This contract is only $13 million. Thats too small for anyone in Congress to get involved in.

Mossberg 935 loaded with BB shot. Or, if you are a golfer, a 2 iron.

How can ANY company survive in Minnesota without government assistance in eluding company taxes?

I’ve got one of those.

It’s a mini-rototiller with a built in internet capability and a hi-res color camera. I also use it on my dog when his coat gets matted. With another attachment it’s an auto-rewind fishing reel. They were selling them on TV at 3:00 am right after the “Identity Thief” reality show.

$19.95 each, but I “acted now” and got nine of them for that price plus 37 different attachments (including rotors that turn it into a helicopter, a carbide sawblade, a car buffer, and a drill chuck with 100 different bits) and 5 spare rechargeable batteries.

And, for another 4 cents, they send you the software to turn it into a reconnaissance robot to use in your neighborhood.

They had a list of their customer and one of them was the US Army!!

Reminds me of the toys we made from a pencil, rubber band, and a sewing thread spool.

“...the important number is , how many senators and congresscritters have stock in the company?...Dianne Feinstein should know.”

$13.9M is chicken scratch for these guys. Follow the $$$ on Obamacare and every other piece of legislation (Dem or GOP)

Neither party has a lock on corruption.

They’ll probably blow invisible IR glitter paint onto you, so the other weapons can home in and blow you away from 100s or thousands of yards away.

I wonder how that thing would handle tangles of monofilament fishing line stretched across windows and crawl spaces?

I’m to the point where I feel these military items are intended for home use against the worst of terrorists; those who love our Country, Constitution and the rule of legitimate law. We be them per them.
