FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale
of our military and our allied military
and the family members of the above.
Honoring those who have served before.

MUSIC NIGHT
To keep you all in the mood
for the music thread
Fabulous FRiday presents

THE FOUR TOPS

The Four Tops ~ an American vocal quartet,
whose repertoire has included doo-wop,
jazz, soul music, R&B, disco,
adult contemporary, hard rock, and showtunes.

Lead singer Levi Stubbs
(born Levi Stubbles, a cousin of Jackie Wilson
and brother of The Falcons' Joe Stubbs),

groupmates
Abdul "Duke" Fakir,
Renaldo "Obie" Benson
and Lawrence Payton

The four remained together
from 1953 until 1997 without a single change
in personnel.

A change of line-up was finally forced upon the group
when Lawrence Payton died on June 20, 1997.

A Few Hits

"I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)"
"Reach Out I'll Be There"
"Standing in the Shadows of Love"
"Bernadette"
"Ain't No Woman (Like the One I've Got)"

TRIVIA

In December 1988, The Tops had been scheduled to board Pan Am Flight 103
to return to the U.S. for Christmas after completing their European tour.
However, they were late getting out of a recording session and overslept,
causing them to miss the ill-fated flight
which crashed in Lockerbie, Scotland,
after a terrorist bomb was detonated onboard.

The Four Tops sang the National Anthem
before the start of game 5 for the 2011 ALCS
between the Texas Rangers & Detroit Tigers
on October 13, 2011 in Detroit, MI.
When singing the last line of "The Star Spangled Banner",
"...and the home of the brave",
they quickly sang the words "Ain't No country Like the One I Got",
before singing the last word, "brave".

A few Awards

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1990)
Vocal Group Hall of Fame (1999)
Hollywood Walk Of Fame (1997)
Grammy Hall Of Fame (Reach Out I'll Be There-1998)

Thanks, AZ, for the red, white, and blue tribute.

Did you get any rain? Cool off some?

How was your commute? Lots of travelers on vacation? *HUGS*

Workday was not too bad - not very productive, though. The infection is responding to meds. The arthritis is spreading. :(

The heat is the worst I have ever encountered outside the Orient. 'Nam was incredibly hot - in the elephant grass the temps went up into the 130's - air temp outside in the high 90's.

On our flight out to Taiwan in 1963, (my father was assigned to a medical research unit there) we hit the deck at Agana, Guam at about noon - over 100 and humid. I went into the men's room to shave and I was sweating profusely through the exercise. No relief until we got back on the plane. Then we hit Clark AFB - hot as Hades until the sky opened, but little relief - it was like being in a steam bath.

This evening at 9:00 p.m., I was all but swooning on the short walk from the van to my house. We're not used to this kind of heat here. We're praying for snow!

Must retire – the 0500 Reveille approaches relentlessly.

The Bugler, his grim visage replete with an evil sneer, already mounts the parapet.

Do poor Tom some charity, whom the foul fiend vexes!

Good night, God bless you, and God bless the United States of America!

Godspeed our Troops around the Globe – especially those in harm’s way – by virtue of their service and sacrifice we continue to live in Freedom!

Hubby wanted to have it ready yesterday, but it needed more
cement to anchor it than he had and took longer to dry.

It does look very nice flying high like that! :)

Aloha Night Owl!

Yeah, I always get to see them from my location but it's much better close up even if you have to sit in the rain. My son came down for a while but he was in no shape or disposition to go over to Moku Olu to watch.

What does the blue flag indicate? And do you have more than one flag at your disposal?
