Affordable Care Act provides an early lifeline to AIDS patients in Oakland

The U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to uphold President Barack Obama’s signature law, the Affordable Care Act, this week came as a lifeline to the most needy in Oakland’s ongoing efforts to provide medical support to AIDS patients. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, a branch of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, approved California’s request to fast-track its transition to Affordable Care Act benefits on June 28, paving the way for the implementation of programs that give high priority to reducing the prevalence of HIV and providing affordable care to AIDS patients.

The agency’s approval, which was announced by Congresswoman Barbara Lee, (D) Oakland, at the California Prostitutes Education Project (Cal- Pep) in Oakland on Monday, will allow thousands of low income AIDS patients in Alameda County to benefit early from the provisions of the Affordable Care Act through access to California’s publicly funded MediCal program.

California Prostitutes Education Project (Cal-Pep)? Please tell me this not taxpayer funded. Attended by Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D). Well that's appropriate.

Laughable in the extreme!

Back in the early eighties, when the bath house bastards were spreading the disease with impunity, the CDC could and should have declared this homosexual disease an epidemic and been done with it, but NOOOOOOOOOO...

Remaining comments self censored.

The cesspool becomes even more depraved, more foul if that could be possible. The Big One can’t come fast enough.

... benefit early from the provisions of the Affordable Care Act through access to California’s publicly funded MediCal program.

How fortunate for California's taxpayers.

we’ve got 4+ months of non-stop taxpayer funded propaganda like this to shift public opinion. Rasmussen remarked the other day that the disapproval numbers on Obamacare have been virtually identical since before the law passed....not even a slight movement in favor. If that holds for 4 months, we win the election, and if it holds for 8 months, we overturn. Unfortunately, due to the Roberts travesty, their side has a new lifeline from the court to try to change minds.

Oh, and hmmm, how does one group get to “fast track” access to funds?

Oh, I forgot. They’re gay, and have AIDS, so I suppose they’re a protected class.

See how this works?

Gosh, back in the early nineties one patient at the hospital where I worked was on medicaid to pay for his hiv med’s. They were over $21,000 a year. Life expectancies were shorter for HIV/aids patients back then. IIRC, he lived about two more years from when I met him.

Being a California taxpayer and heading off to work today I am comforted knowing that under the Affordable Care Act I will have the same health care access as a heroine addict, wino laying in the gutter and someone who irresponsibly partied in the San Francisco bath houses. Just gives me that incentive to get up in the morning and give it my all.

You can have a Raucous Round of Applause from me! I like artichokes. I learned in Weight Watchers that they are extremely high in fiber.
