New Friction Grows Between Romney, Conservatives over Obamacare

For months, Republican Mitt Romney's presidential campaign was a picture of discipline, charting a relatively steady course for the former Massachusetts governor through a bitterly contested primary season. In recent weeks, however, Romney's tight ship has not looked so tight.

Romney's missteps on issues such as immigration and healthcare - and images of him on a jet ski during a vacation at his New Hampshire estate this week - have exasperated some supporters who are calling for a shake-up of his staff and worrying he could bungle Republicans' chances of ousting Democratic President Barack Obama in the Nov. 6 election.

The concerns were summarized in an editorial late on Wednesday by The Wall Street Journal, which said Romney's Boston-based staff was "slowly squandering an historic opportunity."

"Mr. Obama is being hurt by an economic recovery that is weakening for the third time in three years," said the Journal, whose editorial page is a barometer of the thinking of leading conservatives. "But Mr. Romney hasn't been able to take advantage, and if anything he is losing ground."

......

Last month, Romney struggled to articulate a detailed response to Obama's executive order that stopped deportations of thousands of children of illegal immigrants.

The Republican - who trails Obama badly among Latino voters - still has not come up with an immigration plan that might cut into Obama's lead among Hispanics without angering Romney's conservative base.

Romney's decision to take this week off at his lakeside home in New Hampshire - which led to the photographs of the multi-millionaire zipping around on a jet ski with his wife, Ann - prompted some fellow Republicans to say that Romney had blown a chance to strike a more patriotic theme around the nation's July 4 Independence Day holiday on Wednesday.

The problem is Romney has no core political philosophy or belief's. He is one of those people who want to translate their wealth into fame although they really don't know why other than liking to lap up publicity.

The Dems are far better at playing to their base. The base is where the passion lies - the foot soldiers so necessary
during an election. I would simply point our all the bad things with this health care law (and there are certainly plenty) and offer common-sense solutions in lieu of to the electorate. E.G. why no legal reform with malpractice suits?

Romney’s fumbling is reminiscent of McCain of 2008.

Romney is going to have to stick with some positions and quit being so wishy-washy, if he expects to win. He cannot be all things to all people.

I hate to say it - because I do want him to win despite my many many misgivings with him - but Mittens is looking more and more to me like a “John Kerry Republican”.

While their are numerous similarities, the one that sticks out for me is the “conviction gap.” Mittens sometimes says the right things, but I never believe a word coming out of his mouth, especially if those words are conservative.

What the heck is the matter with newsmax?

Romney is still running a disciplined campaign.

Everyone was/is confused about the Roberts ruling but he dealt with it firmly and decisively.

He said nothing amiss about the immigration thing.

As for the lovely family vacation this week. OMG. What’s the matter with people. It’s a holiday week.

He was at his own home with his own boat and his own family having a nice time.

I cannot believe that anyone would complain about that.

Whereas the people most of us want him to defeat is off somewhere with odd people on our money.

Sheesh.

Give me a Freeeeekin break, will you oh, so, sensitive, Ijits?

OK, granted, Mittens suffers from "Foot in Mouth" Disease; he is a Wuss, RINO, who is waaaay too timid for most of our taste...

...and his so called "Advisers" appear to have been separated at birth from those Juan McPain used in 08....

....which is "Good Clean Fun" which MILLIONS enjoy, is somehow...."Beneath a Presidential (Presmumptive) Nominees Dignity" or.....WHAT? Somone want to clue me in???

WHILE this FASCIST, NEO-COMMIE's "Quaffing Beer" in some Bar with some (self-censored) "person" while campaigning in "our" Million $ Bus and on "our" dime, is perfectly fine?

For a minute I was worried that we wouldn’t have a fresh “Romney needs to be defeated to save Obama” post to get us through lunch!

If we don’t express how imperative it is for him to loose every hour of every day, how will we ever remember how much better Obama is?????

I never believe anything he says either. He is proving just as horrible as many of us knew he would be. He’s a weak, lying, power-craving, convictionless Mormon hack. If he happens to win the election, prepare for perpetual disappointment.

Romney or Obama is not much of a choice. I fear this is judgment. Time will tell whether God is finally crushing us as a nation or if He is teaching us a hard lesson.

At FR, it would appear that "the person most people want to see defeated" is Romney.

Are they people of the RIGHT that damned stupid??
A photo of Mitt Romney on a (Horrors) Jet Ski and suddenly O***A is re-elected.
Hundreds of pictures of the Pres. on the golf course and/or flying with OUR money all over the world on “vacation” and not a word of criticism.
This is merely another example of the MSM doing what it believes is its job.
We better see that Romney never is spotted going into a leading resteraunt and/or prestige shopping center. And he better drop the jets and switch to a DC-3.
The Goebbels press will do its thing. Speak up about it.

Romney hasn't even been offically nominated yet.

Most Americans aren't concerned with the Nov. elections yet.

This will be the American's People last chance to stop Obamacare.

Everytime it has come to a test in an election, Obamacare has lost.

It will lose again.

Obviously, conservatives need to shut up, go back to the back of the bus, sit down, and keep sending in the donations. We'll rattle your cages when we need to you to get up and vote.

I’m not necessarily prone to accept conspiracy theories, so I’ll place the blame on criminal incompetence.

THE FIX IS IN!! IT ISN’T OUR TURN!!

How else to explain two successive candidates who walked all over their competition to get the nomination, roar out to a good start and then proceed to squander everything to the other side?

If there can be a bright side to all this,if there is a next time for elections (and the pretense for elections keeps everybody worked up so they don’t realize what a farce it is, the RINOs won’t dare show their faces.

Sad but true.

Hope this site is a huge outlier and I think it is.

Many here are out lying about Romney and ignoring the sins of Obama.

The truth here is that conservative “leaders” are trying to get in front of the surge so they can pat themselves on the back for beating Obama. The reality is we could have picked a name from the phone book (and unfortunately we did) and beat Obama. Voters don’t care what conservative “leaders” think - what a joke! These people tyaklwe themselves way too seriously. Likely voters hate Obama and see What’s His Name as the only way to flush him down the toilet.Look at how the money is pouring in; it will continue to pour in as people smell the stink of defeat all over Obama.

Since very few are actually voting FOR What’s His Name he really can’t do much wrong because the voters don’t care.

My jet ski is better than the GTI. I have the RXT which blows the GTI out of the water.
