Sorry to disagree with you, but I think this does have an economic purpose. Its purpose is to provide transportation for the illegal aliens that make it to San Diego so that they can get to Sacto and provide housekeepers and yard maintenance for the democrats.

This project is designed to keep the illegal alien population employed, which will keep the union coffers overflowing, which will ensure that the democrats are in power forever.

AMTRACK will have to take it over, eventually.

Don’t kid yourself. If it had been close, some of those Republicans would have gone over to the dark side to make sure it passed.
Who gives a damn whether the public want the thing or not, and they definitely do not under the current conditions.

Gee... I bet they’ll want more money to buy the train for it.

It will cost at least double the estimates........as will ObamaCare.......these numbers are always just to get their foot in the door. When does a govt estimate ever come in on budget?

This boondoggle will magically run out of money when spotted owl habitat is located on the proposed route. But liberals will have successfully transferred billions in treasury funds to enviro-lawyers, unions, various liberal experts, and progressive front groups.
Marxist know how to work the system.

I see Visalia is along the line.
Maybe they can transport those tasty onions with this choo-choo.
Oh. Wait. Nevermind.

The bonds won't sell, but the (freshly printed) federal grant money will go straight to payroll for their bloated bureaucracy, for their bankrupt state pension system and to pay for their huge illegal population. Then they will paint a state seal on San Diego's `Tijuana Trolley' and call it good. Californos' only hope--if this scam peters out--is that everything west of the San Andreas fault falls into the sea.

“The first segment of the line will run from Madera to Bakersfield.”
Absolute insanity.
For those unfamiliar with California, look at a map of those two cities and what’s in between them.
Absolutely nothing but farmland.
I haven’t seen Madera or Bakersfield on any top ten hottest vacation spot lists.
The only reason to go to Bakersfield is if you’re a big fan of Buck Owens.
The only people riding that train will be members of the United Farm Workers and they’ll have government passes that will allow them to ride for free.

Yet there are still idiots here on FR who think California can be saved. It is gone, propped up for now before rolling down the turdhole.
But keep on dreaming, those of you who are true believers. The unicorns will be crapping out skittle for you any day now.

Tennessee hasn’t got a regular income tax and has a Republican governor and Congress.
