Being a native-born Texan, it is my understanding that Texas is the only State in the Union that can legally secede from the Union, because it was once a Republic on it's own. (The Republic of Texas.)
Now, someone help me out here: Is that a fact? If so, I'm calling on all Texas FReepers to join me in laying the groundwork to make it happen if Barack Obama is reelected. What do we need to do to start a Secession Movement, and where do we begin? If you're not a Texan, you don't understand the Texas mind-set. If BHO is reelected, I guarantee you that Texas would vote 60% - 40% FOR Secession. Even Governor Perry has talked about Texas seceding. LET'S FRIGGIN' DO IT!!!
lol..I was being silly re: an ongoing claim that makes us look silly. But thanks for the “56” flags. Made me laugh.
Now that you mention, it does sound like fun. A little mischief never hurt.
Every state that seceded from the Union in 1860/61 was in (secessionist) legal theory briefly an independent republic before joining the CSA.
In a word, no. I am an American, yes an American who owns a home in Texas, and no way am I willingly going to be a homeless refugee in a border state because Texas seceded.
Perry “took it back” to keep from upsetting all the Uhaul noobTexans. We know he thinks about “it” just like real Texan’s do.
Secession isn’t a good public subject because of the the personal “followers” one would collect. By no means does that mean its not often thought about.
Secession is not something that we would “ask” the Feds if we can do. It will not come as a line in the sand declartation rather by continuing to push our 10th Amendment Rights, having to protect our own International border and refusing to take edicts from the likes of the EPA or nobamacare and the Feds being stupid enough to keep pushing.
Because the federal government (maybe aided by Mexico) would bring massive firepower to bear against Texas. Same as it did last time. And Texas alone would not be able to defend itself successfully.
all true with one exception. Perry was never serious and was aghast that anyone would think him serious.
In the past six months, I’ve seen more “Secede” bumper stickers here in Texas than Obama or Romney stickers.
It’s always been a somewhat tongue-in-cheek proposition, but after the past few months of Obama’s lawlessness on illegal aliens, the faggotization of the military, and the recent Obamacare ruling turning citizens into serfs of the government... in which America is obviously in total and accelerating decay, well, I’m starting to look at secession as a very, very valid option.
I’d like Florida to seceed as well, but if it doesnot and Texas does, I’ll move there.
Texas is really hot though ><.
Just fyi, Oklahoma and Louisiana are taker states to use your lingo. There are only 11 payer states (states that bleed more money to the fed than they receive) and 39 taker states. I’ve made jaws drop when I’ve pointed out that Wyoming, percentage wise, is the biggest taker state in the union, receiving far more in federal money than is taken from the state. California might be nearly bankrupt internally, but it’s the biggest payer state, giving far more to the fed than it ever sees back.
You're the clown "bro". There are a great many of us who are tired subsidizing this federal socialist state. I pay this freakin government $60K a year in federal income taxes, and the bastards still get $3T more in debt.
Keep up the go government mantra "bro". The punk POTUS and his entitlement minions in this country appreciate it. I for one wholeheartedly support secession.
Your scale has the Ol butcher’s thumb on it. Don’t think 500 MILLION died in the War of Northern Aggression or we’d all be gone.
I also don't think the petroleum companies would be lacking for physical security, because the people there would protect them as if those companies are their own family. It would also add more strain on the FEDgov once shipments of oil from those companies stop going around the country, because every other state would be pressuring the government to stop going after TX, if they go after them in any way. The one could easily lead the other 49, albeit in a crude (no pun intended) manner.
I'm all for it.
If you guys succeed, will you accept refugees from the Peoples Democratic Socialist Republic of Illinois?
Hell yeah. Git yo a** down here.
Granted. I don’t think a lot of the yahoos realize just how much of the state is cosmopolitan, or just how big the slice of the population pie resides in the metro areas of a handful of Texas cities. Secession is never going to happen, but I resent the idea none-the-less.
Personally I doubt your numbers. I suspect you couldn't get 20% of Texans to actually vote for secession, as opposed to venting about it out of frustration.
However, let's take your numbers as accurate.
How do you run a government of the people, by the people and for the people when 40% of those people are adamantly opposed to your government?
They presumably would refuse to respect its legitimacy. To what lengths would your secessionist government go to enforce its authority? At what point does this turn into suppression of dissent?
IOW, how can you maintain a free system of government when a very large minority are violently opposed to it? I contend it can't be done. You can run a dictatorship or a monarchy/tyranny on such a basis, but not a civil society or republic.
I think Texas is already part of Mexico again.
LOL.... You ain’t right cripplecreek. You just ain’t right!
I'm confused but could Hawaii, Asia secede? Oh, silly me, the islands would obviously have to remain part of Asia.
