John Boehner: Voters Need Not Love Mitt Romney
Roll Call ^ | 7/7/12 | Jonathan Strong

Posted on 07/07/2012 1:07:52 PM PDT by jimbo123

-snip-

The Ohio Republican made the remarks when an unidentified woman asked during a question-and-answer session: “Can you make me love Mitt Romney?”

“No,” Boehner said. “Listen, we’re just politicians. I wasn’t elected to play God. The American people probably aren’t going to fall in love with Mitt Romney. I’ll tell you this: 95 percent of the people that show up to vote in November are going to show up in that voting booth, and they are going to vote for or against Barack Obama. “Mitt Romney has some friends, relatives and fellow Mormons ... some people that are going to vote for him.

But that’s not what this election is about. This election is going to be a referendum on the president’s failed economic policies.

I’m praying for a Romney win and that he turns out to be better than he currently appears. I know what I get with the other guy who will only be worse in a second term than in his first. Conservative victories in the House and Senate might be able to pull Romney right. There is no hope for the other one.

No kidding. Shoot me, but this seems like McCain all over again. No fight in the RNC or in the candidate. The question is, why? Are they resigned to losing? Or, are they just this inept that, again, they think being nice, and docile, and uncontroversial, is a strategy? Or, are they simply bought-off, and like the idea of Obama winning again? A combination of the above? I don’t know.

I don’t know if Palin would have been a great president, but there is no way in Hell she would be as bad as this empty suit. I won’t even give him credit for Fast and Furious. I honestly don’t think he’s that smart. I think F&F is the product of whoever is pulling his strings, and he carries out orders. He’ no more than a robot.

This is exactly like the last campaign.

Anti Incumbency / anti vote.

How well did that work last time? What's that AE saying about doing the same thing over and over?

Myth is flopping as hard as he can, but he'll probably win anyway. Do you really expect him to do any better than his dark clone?

Well I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’m just totally frustrated. I actually have liberal friends that agree that Obama needs to go. They hate the way he has handled both health care and the economy. The problem lies with Romney. His track record of Romney care is indefensible. His flip flops are real and make him untrustworthy. I’m really not a black helicopter sort of person, but this feels like a government plot that we are unequipped to fight.

A “good campaigner” is not necessarily a good business man or a good manager.

We have seen over the past 3-1/2 years what a cockup a “good campaigner can make of things.

Romney is definitely not my first, or second choice, and he’s sure not Mr. Charisma. But I think he has the business sense and common sense to start making things right again in this country. I pray we can get him elected or we are up the creek for sure.

No fight in the RNC or in the candidate. The question is, why?

I'm the last person on earth you would find defending the RNC, but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out you don't beat a dead horse!

Obama has economically destroyed things over the past 4 years and the American people know it. People recognize Obama is a dangerous anti-Capitalist, anti-American, radical socialist loser!

Mitt just has to show up and not piss off the base to badly and it's a lock!

Just being an American will beat Obama!

For all Romney's faults - and they've been posted on these threads hundreds of times by now - Speaker Boehner is right.

The election is a referendum on the Obama presidency, not on the popularity of Mitt Romney, who doesn't excite many but at least looks presidential. On that basis, Romney probably will win as Obama's approval numbers are tanking, as they should. Romney may be far less than we want but unless he can somehow be replaced as the 2012 Republican presidential nominee - which is extremely unlikely - he is all we've got to remove Obama from power. A thin reed, for sure, but as America declines by the day, a better alternative than Obama. Those who simply cannot in good conscience vote for Romney will do what they must but when presented with the possibility of another four years of Obama and Mitt Romney, well, I find it hard to do anything in the voting booth that, in effect, helps Obama be re-elected by default and by doing so, seriously endanger the survival of America as we know and love it. Cynicism is easy today but accomplishes nothing worthwhile.

Not at all.  He's much more than an unthinking brainless robot.  He's a dedicated Marxist ideologue with ideas all his very own on how the people of this nation should be ruled.

Romney will put up a much better fight than McCain ever did. I hope.

I think Romney has the capabilty to make zero look very small. Our last four presidential candidates were too nice. Hopefully this time will be different.

"I’m really not a black helicopter sort of person, but this feels like a government plot that we are unequipped to fight."

I used to argue strenuously with NWO conspiracy nuts on various internet forums.  I mean, trash them relentlessly.  I held the firm belief that the power still remained in the hands of the American voters (for good or for worse).  But sadly, with the evidence piling in over the last four years with the McLame candidacy, and now topping off with the GOP pushing socialist Mitt into position, I am becoming solidified in the same conclusion as you.

David Rockefeller:

Some even believe we [Rockefellers] are a part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United states, characterizing my family and me as ‘internationalists’ and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure—one world, if you will. If that’s the charge, I stand guilty, and I’m proud of it.”

And tell me, Senator, if you know that 95% of the people voting will not be voting FOR the elite's handpicked candidate, might you have reconsidered shoving him down our throats since the LAST time he lost?!?!?!

Can any party be dumber than the Republicans??? A golden year was hand fed us by the dems and the elites give us a man we can not stand....and the first time since Regan one I can not even bring myself to vote for. Even our own leaders are telling us we do not need to like him to vote for him...Just ugh.

Sorry, but they finally went to far to the left for me to excuse or even fool myself into thinking he is better than the dems when he is a freaking dem. There is nobody you can even put by this guy to that can even hide the smell....not even Palin could do it like she did for McCain....been there done that one to death and not fooled or willing to play that game.

Yes, you will win but because dems will help you not your own base...but you will lose in 4 years because the Republican base will despise this man by the end of 4 years and the dems will have regrouped.

Stupid...Stupid...Stupid

I read this totally the opposite. What Boehner says here is the humility that all politicians should display. They are not our superiors, we have hired them to play a leadership role in our democratic republic...

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
As Mr. Lincoln and his son walked the streets of Richmond, one group of Newly freed slaves cried “Glory, Hallelujah!” and fell to their knees before Mr. Lincoln. The President motioned for them to rise. “Don’t kneel to me.” he told them. “You must kneel to God only and thank Him for your freedom.” “Liberty is your birthright. God gave it to you as he gave it to others, and it is a sin that you have been deprived of it for so many years.”

vs.

“This was the moment when the rise of the oceans began to slow and our planet began to heal.”

This is what the largest fuster cluck that I have ever seen in my entire 40 years of political experience looks like. All of you mitt supporters take notice please... even boehner... the progressive liar and secret deal cutter... ex. Super Committee and CC&B... even this turn coat, sell out to the rats... pro big government progressive Speaker of the House knows that very few outside of DC even like mitt. Even his most staunch supporters here on FR admit they are not crazy about him. THAT is why obama is either even or slightly ahead of mitt... even when compared to obama... the absolute worst president in the entire History of this republic... mitt romney may very well lose.

Since they are both proabortion, killers of marriage, and liars, and, since I have a duty to vote, the position is to vote on the basis of which one might have a better chance of improving people's lot on economic issues. I also have a duty to vote for the one I think may be more likely to change or be coerced to change on immoral issues when they both hold the same immoral positions. Also, it becomes immoral under those circumstances to vote for someone who has no chance of winning. Clearly, I would rather have had almost any other candidate than Romney but now, since it is decided, I need to make a rational choice despite the immoral stance on certain issues.

That same assurance concerning the SCOTUS decision on obamacare was given here on FR so many times... it boggles the mind. Reality is that this election will be the dirtiest and hardest fought, bare knuckles brawl seen since the days of Burr, Hamilton and dueling. That is... if mitt ever shows up to fight.

ALL of the data we have at hand shows that mitt's momentum has stopped and/or reversed. Even Rasmussen is showing this trend. It should be a blow out of Reagan proportions... but mitt has not even tied up his base... much less the squishy middle. Read Barrone and Krauthammer... even they are saying the same things that I am saying here. I just don't sugar coat it... we don't have the time for that kind of formality.

This thread is sounding like a wake. I understand the deep and heartfelt disappointment in Romney but for crying out loud can’t some of you hitch up your big boy pants and get on about the job of getting Obama out of office??!

You aren’t gonna get your conservative Christian firebrand visionary this time around. Quit sopping up your beer with your eyelids and suck it up.
Mitts gonna win cause he’s not Obama Period. That’s fine with me. Better fiscal decisions will be made, he’ll put a staff in place that’s NOT out of Commie Party casting, and he’s not gonna get caught in bed with a live boy or a dead girl.

I want to think the best about Romney... really I do. To hear some of you talk, it’s just gonna be doom, despair, 4 years of hell, and America is gone for good. Hell, I’d vote for a turnip if it meant getting the damn kenyan out.

Yup... I think Boner’s gutless and McConnell’s senile but when I’m talking to a new voter, an independent, or some liberal douche, I’ll make the bunch of them sound like 72 virgins on steroids! We have got to get that B’tard out of the WhiteHut and then go from there.

Ya’ll just lighten up a bit. Take a deep breath, go pi$$ off a liberal, and lets just take this one step at a time.

I’m voting Romney, because the alternative is too horrible to contemplate.

But I’m also voting for the staunchest conservatives on the ballot for House and Senate, to keep Romney in check.

Most importantly, I’ll be praying for a REAL conservative (Allen West, maybe?) to be elected to the Speaker position. Then maybe we’ll see some hearings and investigations, some special prosecutors, some impeachments, some tar-and-featherings, some hangings ...
