Saudi Princess Seeks Asylum in UK
Telegraph ^

She was Saudi Arabia’s “Barbie” princess; the pampered granddaughter of the Kingdom’s founder and daughter of one of his most powerful and favoured sons.

Princess Sara bint Talal bin Abdulaziz, however, is claiming political asylum in the UK over fears for her safety back home.

The claim, the first ever made by such a senior member of the ruling family’s inner circle, will embarrass the Saudi dynasty and threatens a diplomatic row.

Princess Sara, 38, accuses senior Saudi officials of plotting to kidnap her and smuggle her back to Riyadh, having subjected her to a “well orchestrated and malicious campaign of persecution”.

She currently occupies a suite and several rooms in a five-star London hotel with her four children and two dogs, guarded by a private security team.

I guess she’s thinking the UK is a lot different from Saudi. Hmm.

Yeah, well the main problem is HM Government has a tendency to bend over and grab its ankles for the Saudis, even when serious laws have been broken (e.g. the Eurofighter sale a few years ago).

If I was her, I’d present myself to the Canadian High Commission in London and claim asylum there instead, as they are positively rolling in oil, don’t have the same trade links and therefore have no reason to sell her out...

Is this the princess who tried to skip out on her hotel bill?

Women can drive here, and people can go to church if they want to. Plus the whole country has drinking water on tap.

So she’d be right. It’s a lot different from Saudi.

I think (s)he wasn’t being entirely serious, although considering I have been asked by Americans in all seriousness whether the tapwater is safe for them to drink over here, perhaps you are right...

No, it brings slow, painful death from what can only be described as hilariously explosive, bloody diarrhea to any foreigner foolish enough to drink it. Whilst some have said what is known as the ‘English Disease’ has been a curse upon our nation, I take the view that it has in fact been a blessing, and has been the main reason why Britain has never been successfully invaded since 1066...

“My branch of the family was always different from the rest of Al Saud – open, controversial and diverse. We celebrate Christmas.”

Celebrate Christmas?

Tons of folks celebrate Christmas by putting up a tree and exchanging gifts. They may attend church for that one day of the year.

Others worship Christ.

I suspect her highness practices the former.

Thats immaterial. The point is: she has the option. Which she doesnt have in Saudi.
