Robert Reno, brother of former U.S. Attorney General, dies (in lieu of flowers give to Obama)
Miami Herald ^ | July 7, 2012 | ELINOR J. BRECHER

Posted on 07/07/2012 11:14:40 PM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

Robert Maurius Reno, one of former U.S. Attorney General Janet Reno’s two younger brothers, died Saturday morning, according to their sister, Maggy Hurchalla, of Stuart.

The Miami native was born Dec. 11, 1939, at Jackson Memorial Hospital and succumbed to Alzheimer’s disease at the Miami Veterans Administration Medical Center, where he’d been living for about four years.

He was 74 and, said Hurchalla “a proud liberal Democrat.’’

Reno became a journalist, like his parents, the late Henry and Jane Reno, and spent most of his career at Newsday, the New York daily, starting as a reporter in 1968.

As a liberal columnist from the 1980s until his retirement in early 2003, Reno took on the National Rifle Association, conservatives, and the super rich, railed against poverty, social inequality and corrupt politicians, and delighted in deflating the outsized egos of the powerful.........

....In a 1990 Mother’s Day column, he praised the strong women in his life.

“If you called her a cow, my mother wouldn’t whine and complain, she’d simply bust you in the chops,’’ he wrote. “I am the progeny of lionesses, not twits, and all the women in my family are bossy as hell.”

....In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends — “even if they are Republicans” — to give to the Obama campaign, Hurchalla said. “That was an inspiration we had while crying [Saturday] morning.’’

Even with Alzheimer's, I'm sure he Voted for Obama like any good Democrat would. In fact I'm sure a nice friendly ACORN Worker assisted him in filling out and signing his Absentee Ballot.

I wonder if he will Vote for him now?
(Like any good dead Democrat would)

Rest in Peace you Constitution hating Liberal SOB.

Sounds like a weird family and who would call your mom a cow-what a strange thing to say.

Let me get this straight... while they were mourning the loss of their dearly departed, they were thinking about Zero's re-election campaign as comforting?

These people are really sick! It appears politics is their religion.

We should shower them with flowers....

Personally I find it disrespectful to turn a death into a campaign fund-raising event.

Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease, and it takes a terrible toll on a family. But there is one irony in Mr. Reno’s passing. As a columnist at Newsday, he earned a very nice income, much of it during the salad days of American newspapers (1970s and 80s). Looks like he lived in some pricey New York real estate as well. Probably had retirement income from the News Guild, Newsday’s parent company, investments and Social Security.

Yet, in true liberal fashion, the Reno family latched onto the public teat to care for their brother. No mention of his military service in his biography—wouldn’t want his reputation sullied by association with the American war machine. But those veterans benefits—earned in uniform—provided his care in the final years of his life.

Meanwhile, I’m guessing that a lot of his assets were transferred to his survivors a few years back, until he became “poor” enough to qualify for public assistance and move to the head of the VA line. Meanwhile, we have combat wounded vets from Iraq and Afghanistan who are trying to work their way through the system, and obtain their benefits.

I don’t wish Mr. Reno’s fate on anyone. But he certainly was consistent in his liberal views—and his reliance on the state.

I suppose not as he's said to be younger than Janet Reno (who according to Wikipedia) will be 74 this July.

Two large bouquets of Poison Ivy would be most appropriate.

One for the funeral, and one sent to Bammy.
