Taliban publicly execute woman near Kabul: officials

A man Afghan officials say is a member of the Taliban shot dead a woman accused of adultery in front of a crowd near Kabul, a video obtained by Reuters showed, a sign that the austere Islamist group dictates law even near the Afghan capital.

In the three-minute video, a turban-clad man approaches a woman kneeling in the dirt and shoots her five times at close range with an automatic rifle, to cheers of jubilation from the 150 or so men watching in a village in Parwan province.

“Allah warns us not to get close to adultery because it’s the wrong way,” another man says as the shooter gets closer to the woman. “It is the order of Allah that she be executed”.

Islam does not count equality for all. Being a 4 tour veteran and defense contractor I know this to be true. Working in national defense and intelligence I know this to be true. Talk to any of our troops that have been to Afghan a couple times, I have. They will tell you the place ain't worth all the American lives being lost there. They will tell you that as soon as we leave, the place will go back to how it has always been; Afghans a bunch of animals not worthy of our investment of our young men's lives.

They will also tell you that we ain't leaving for many years, just changing the plan; pulling out regular army and installing permanent special forces units. We are building infrastructure, paving roads, building everything needed to control, hold onto strategic areas between major bases and FOB's. People I know that go over there practically every year tell me 50 years we will still be there; our boys dying. I just question the sanity of such decisions?

There would be a only a few brave souls who would disagree with that. With a sad smile, I hear on the MSM of a pledge of 16 billion dollars from certain countries, to aid Afghanistan after the pull out. Timidly some bureaucrat involved, suggests "only if there is control over corruption ".

What a mess! The mighty British army had two wars there (1844 and 1883). Wiped out thousands of Afghanistan fighters in 1883 and "won". Lord Roberts managed to withdraw his troops intact and have the insurgents promise not to attack India. No military genius seems to exist today that could solve this problem. On "Queen Victoria's Little Wars". I certainly appreciate your information on that publication. Until now, I was unaware of the book. I will give Indigo Books (Canada) a try for it.

I remember as a boy,coming across a heavy volume titled "From Kabul to Kandahar". The story of the great counter-march in 1880 by the British. They had left a holding garrison of a 1000 men to hold Kandahar. The Afghans had fled to the hills deserting that city. Lord Roberts marched on to Kabul, the cunning Afghans then came and besieged Kandahar.

Lord Roberts got back to save the surviving 700 men. Somehow think I did not quite get that title right and am still trying occasionally. Thanks for the information.

That poor girl is in a better place. I remember one of my guys was back briefing me from a run during my time with Blackwater in Iraq. A sniper had set up during a venue and when it was time to break and leave this technical school in Hillah - the girls had been let out for a break. These girls were dressed to the “T” in fashion and only wore the hijib to get to the school - but took it off once there...anyway — they kept walking by my team and holding up their cell phone screens with their number on it looking at them with and mentally saying, “Get me the hell out of here!” —I say girls - but they were like 17 - 18 yr olds that wanted no part of Islamic society...pretty sad.
