(CNN) A top adviser for President Barack Obamas re-election campaign said Sunday the president was entirely dedicated to ending the so-called Bush tax cuts for the wealthy at the end of this year.
He is 100% committed to it, Robert Gibbs said on CNNs State of the Union.
Obama signed a bill in 2010 to extend the Bush-era tax cuts, citing the need for economic stimulus at the time, but has since vowed he would not permit another extension.
The tax breaks are set to expire in whats known as the fiscal cliff, a package of spending cuts and removal of tax breaks that will take place on January 1 if Congress fails to act. In total, $7 trillion could be taken out from the economy.
Tax breaks that would end include the Bush tax cuts, middle class protection from the Alternative Minimum Tax, and more than 50 temporary tax breaks for individuals and businesses that have been on the books for years.

You bet he is, he wants all your earnings and tell you what to do because he is all knowing, all wise and knows what’s best for you, little, stupid, taxpayer.
King Obama; dictator, emperor, lord of lords, king of kings, the shadow of God (allah). Wake up, America, November, 2012, he must be defeated.
I see these guys really have no clue.
It’s time for every member of the TEA Party to “go Galt”. We’ll see how long the freeriding freeloaders in this country survive on their own without somebody else paying their way.
Well! That will cover half the stimuli...
No problemo sport, all sane American Citizens are "100% committed" to putting The Won, Hussein Obama The Magnificent, Choom-Choom Prezzy B in the unemployment line to test Nutjob NancyPants theory that unemployment compensation is “good for the economy” because unemployment checks are “job creators”.
In other news, all remaining democrat voters are nuts or commies.
I guess that is really not "news..."
.
I DARE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The dirty little secret about the Bush Tax Cuts is that most of them went to the middle and lower classes. He’s not about end all of those tax cuts - but the Republicans are TOO STUPID to understand that, so they’ll likely give Obama what he wants, like they always do.
Personally, I’ve always said that if we want a $4T government then WE SHOULD PAY for a $4T government (which, I guess is the case, since the Republicans keep rubber-stamping the president’s budgets and event he old people on this site want “their” money from the government)...so I’m all for ending these tax cuts...and I wouldn’t mind seeing a VAT and $5 gasoline tax too - that would just about get us to the point where MY CHILDREN (and future grandchildren) will not have to be debt slaves for the entire adult lives. It’s time the middle and lower classes starting paying for all the services that they’re stealing now.
Of course the other option is to simply cut the size of government, but that’s hopeless as even the old people on this site would never consider turning Social Security into a means-tested welfare program, which would be the first step in that direction.
Contradictory psychobabble. So we needed it at the time for stimulus and now they are crying for more stimulus but refuse to do what they did before to bring on stimulus?
Hey Gibbs, do you walk to work or carry your lunch?
A lot of people who are opposed to the “tax cut for the wealthy” will be surprised to learn that they are considered “wealthy.”
Obama wants to extend the “Bush tax cuts” for almost everyone. It is just the “rich” that he wishes to soak. And the reality is that these are now the Obama tax cuts.
Fiscal Cliff... here we come.
Taxmageddon lives!
I’m going to close my business in December. I’m 61, still in good health and had planned on several more years of employment. I could always re-open if the situation changes, but I refuse to be victimized by the communist scumbag. I can make it, everything I have is paid for, including my home. Obamacare, and the tax break expiration has convinced me.
Try: Obama 100% Committed to Ending America as we know it.
About 30000 years if they revert to stone-age cannibalism...
Sorry Obama, you have the power to end the Bush tax cuts for EVERYONE, including tens of millions from the middle class, but it will take an act of Congress to preserve those cuts for everyone but the RICH.
And I suppose all your future property taxes are paid in full?
ANYBODY BUT OBAMA
Asked on Sunday about the looming fiscal cliff, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said it would be a mistake for Obama to override the bill.
The president shouldnt veto that, he said on the same CNN program. This is the same president who signed the very same thing two years ago with the argument to do otherwise would make the economy worse.
“And I suppose all your future property taxes are paid in full?”
I doubt he’s paid for his food yet either. That’s not his point - it’s that his future costs are relatively small and manageable, since he isn’t living the opulent, debt-ridden, lifestyle. It’s amazing how little people can live on, if they actually try to live that way.
Contradictory psychobabble. So we needed it at the time for stimulus and now they are crying for more stimulus but refuse to do what they did before to bring on stimulus?
This is where the MSM / reporter fail us. In any private enterprise the presenter would be brought to task for this idiocy.
And don’t forget the 20+ Obamacare taxes!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
“Taxable” income is becoming poison. We will become Greece, regarding the black and gray markets.
Boy the choice between Romney and Obama is getting tougher all the time. Now when will Mittens start sounding like a President and less like Richie Cunningham? Man up dude!
Panama is looking pretty good, what with the benefits they are offering to expats.
.. Obama ...Committed...
I got exited for a second
I can handle property taxes for the foreseeable future.I live on a small ranch-farm here in Tx. I won’t be able to do some of the things I’d like, but that is better than supporting the welfare mommas and the illegals.
After reading your post I did some quick research on the net. Wow, I am wondering why in the heck I am not already there.
While I am not insanely rich, I am retired and financially okay. I would be living like a King in that financial environment, that is—if I get out of here before Obama and the dems completely break my back. I am 63, so it’s too late for me to rebuild. The insanity needs to stop or I need to leave.
We are going to take a serious look at all of this... it sure sounds good on it’s face. Although I don’t fly well, it would be easy to afford to fly home once a year to visit our family.
Personally, I prefer to stay and fight, but if Obama wins another 4 years, I will be convinced without a doubt, that this country no longer has the gut to be the America that I once knew, served and loved.
Perhaps we will see you on the beach. ;>)
Don't run. Stand and fight with your countrymen. We're going to need every patriot we can gather in the coming days.
what better way to end the “Bush recession” than to do away with the “Bush tax cuts”?
sarc
And like overindulgent parents of a teenager having tantrums, Boehner and McConnell will let him get away with it
That sounds noble but if over 50 million of my “fellow countrymen” reelect obama, they are not worth fighting for
How about you? Would you die for this US Congress?
You are correct, I have taken steps in the last few years to try to insure that my wife and I can do OK. I was orphaned at an early age, and my grandparents raised me on a small farm not far from where I live now. They were both born in the late 1880’s,and always lived a very conservative lifestyle. They both lived through 2 world wars and the depression, and knew how to “get by” and enjoy life at the same time. They told me several times that the hardest times for them was WWII, because they had all three of their sons in it.
Ah yes. More uncertainty for small business and the middle class.
Obama and his Democrat Party are the biggest bunch of idiots to have ever controlled government.
Good for you. Yea, I think this guy meant well, but was a bit quick to jump the gun. You’ll be fine, as long as the society around you doesn’t collapse for some reason.
Unfortunately, if that happens....we’ll be “100% committed” to downsizing our corporation....by up to 20%
F’in idiots...........
Die for Congress? What sort of harebrained talk is that?
In the first American Revolution, only one third of the colonists supported the cause for independence. Of the entire population, only 3% actually picked up a gun and fired on the British.
Nothing's changed. If we're forced to take our country back by means of last resort, the cowards, the takers, and the ignorant, will far outnumber the patriots who risk everything on their behalf.
And if George Washington’s gang had been too bummed out about this state of affairs to act, nothing would have been done. There wouldn’t have been even a first chance for America.
Are house trailers taxed?
>> even the old people on this site would never consider turning Social Security into a means-tested welfare program
How exactly would you go about it, keeping in mind that many of us have paid into the fund for our entire lives with the understanding that SS was a *retirement plan* we were funding, not a welfare benefit?
I don’t disagree with your logic, but I am curious if you have thought it through beyond the rant stage.
(Myself, I am planning my late-life finances as though social security did not exist. And, I have adjusted my compensation so I pay as little INTO SS as is legally possible.)
Every smart strategy includes a fallback position. It is also a way to insulate to the wife and kids should the SHTF, and until the dust settles.
“How exactly would you go about it, keeping in mind that many of us have paid into the fund for our entire lives with the understanding that SS was a *retirement plan* we were funding, not a welfare benefit?”
Me included - my kids are finishing college, so I’ve got a few decades in the workforce myself. My point is that there is NO WAY we are ever going to get these people to sacrifice and give up on their myth that there’s a lockbox out there with their name on it...So we just might as well bring our level of taxation up to what we’re spending...it’s either that or a total economic collapse of this country (much worse than Greece) - and that I do not want.
“I dont disagree with your logic, but I am curious if you have thought it through beyond the rant stage.”
Sorry about the rant - I have to explain this nightmare to my kids. I just prefer to give my kids a still-functioning country, even with twice our level of taxation, rather than a scene out of a Mad-Max movie. They can (and will have to) adjust their lifestyles to keep feeding money to the old people, so they’ll just have to live in smaller houses (or apartments), travel less, eat out less, use less air conditioning, just revert to a simpler lifestyle. They understand the need to pay tribute to these people (after all, they’re outvoted), but it’s just a bit tough on them, because they got to grow up in a totally different country - and maybe that was my fault for spoiling them with an upper middle-class lifestyle - something that will be WAY out of reach for them (due to the debt), even given their excellent college educations.
First of all, I think every American retiree who does not need SS income should not take it. Social Security should be a security net for the unfortunate or stupid.
Second, the govt should stop borrowing 40 cents on every dollar spent TODAY.
Third, lets get this idiot out of the white house.

The first will take the second a long way - particularly if you also require their children to help take care of them (if the kids have the means). The third one...we can only hope.
What's your criteria for "need"?
Read here. According to this first hand account of Panama: Crime, raw sewage in the streets, and a government 10X more socialist than Obama.

I’m not debating, just suggesting you look at other opinions.
Now it is time to get conservatives nominated in every remaining primary, and then get Republicans elected to every office nationwide in November.
If we get GOP control of Congress and the White House then it will be time to demand ambitious conservative reform of the federal government.
If the 'Rats win the election in November, then it will be time to go Galt.
