Statement by the father of Lance Cpl. Hunter “H.D.” Hogan (KIA 06/23/12 Re: ROE)

Lance Cpl. Hunter “H.D.” Hogan entered the USMC 26 OCT. 2009.

He served with the 1st Battalion, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division.

The most outstanding custom in the Marine Corps is simply “being a Marine” and all that it implies. Call it morale, call it esprit de corps, call it what you will — it is that pride which sets a United States Marine apart from the other armed services. It is not taught in manuals, yet it is the most impressive lesson a recruit learns in boot camp. It is not tangible, yet it has won fights against material odds. Perhaps Sen. Paul H. Douglas has best defined it:

“Those of us who have had the privilege of serving in the Marine Corps value our experience as among the most precious of our lives. The fellowship of shared hardships and dangers in worthy cause creates a close bond of comradeship. It is the basic reason for the cohesiveness of Marines and for the pride we have in our corps and our loyalty to each other.”

Lance Corporal Hunter “H.D.” Hogan was proud of his Corps and believed it to be second to none. He was loyal to his comrades and to the Marine Corps, adhering always to the motto Semper Fidelis, Always Faithful.

H.D. on his personal side was all about, as he said the 3 F’s... family, friends, and fun. With emphasis on fun! Hunter lived his life at 110 miles per hour. Whether it be his passion for rodeo and bucking horses, his enthusiasm hunting and fishing, or with his time in the Marine Corps.

H.D. had the ability to make people around him push themselves to be better at whatever they were doing. Be it with a quick witted comment or on occasions with his brutally honest sharp tongue. Hunter was a man that people gravitated to. Recent comments that have been posted to his Facebook page trumpet one thing about this young man. Saying not that H.D. was my best friend in 2nd grade or in football or in high school rodeo. Going down the list of posts they all began or ended with H.D. was my best friend, period. And there are few better than him to have on your side.

Hunter had opportunities to college rodeo. He chose the Marine Corps instead. Saying that he just wanted to serve his country for 4 years and he’d get back to rodeing afterwards. In doing so it brought him into the love of his life, Brittney. He was never so happy as when they were married on December 29, 2010. For those of you who were blessed to be around them, you all knew that they were a perfectly matched couple. You could also see the true pure love that they had for each other.

We as family and friends of H.D. have all suffered a tremendous blow with the loss of this amazing young Hero. But through this tragedy some wonderful positives have begun to emerge.

His wife and father have decided as these positive things are popping up, that H.D.’s up in heaven with us all in a pot. And he’s occasionally reaching into it with a stick and giving it a quick little stir. Then sitting back with his crooked grin and giggling.

Hunter H.D. Hogan (pause) Fearless and Brave (pause) Man, he sure could Cowboy.

We as family and friends of Lance Cpl. Hogan and other service members, want to know why the media in our country has coddled instead of covered this Teflon coated administration!

We listened every night on the news for 8 years with the previous administration the casualty reports. With the present administration nothing is reported!

With the news of our recent loss of H.D. and others in his battalion, many people have made statements like “I didn’t think anything was going on there anymore.” “I thought the Marines were leaving there.” Etc. etc.

Here’s the statistics in Afghanistan for the 8 years of George Bush. The total killed in action under him is 660. Barack Obama in 3 years and 5 months the total killed in action is a total of 1,398.

Wounded under George Bush is 2,637 in 8 years. Wounded under Obama up to January 31st of this year is 11,529.

Why isn’t the media covering this instead of covering the protestors of these brave service men and women’s funerals?

The policies of this current administration and the rules of engagement are a huge factor with these casualty reports. The limited air and artillery support our men receive. The limited company level support such as motors, as well as the approval to return fire are hampering and adding to the danger they are in daily. Not to mention the severely limited night operations, that is approved, because it scares the Afghan people.

Let the military run the war. They are the professionals. Or get our people out of there.

How many more black walls full of names are we going to build?

You’d think that with all these wonderful drones that are available now, it would be easier than ever to furnish air support to ground troops, from any service. If a drone is shot down, no pilot is lost, so a drone can go where no pilot would dare.

What a loss of a Cowboy. Under Bush it could be Yee Haw. Under Obama it’s a small-t tea party with pinky extended.

with the community-organizer-in-chief it’s more like leaning on his hand with the middle finger extended.

Learn something new everyday.

I wonder what kind of changes Petraeus has put in place at the CIA? These ROE’s are his idea.

Hard for me to believe that Obama hasn’t leaned hard on him about it, though.

Remember, Petraeus also is given orders he must obey. JCS and the White house trumps anything he would do. Not giving him cover, just stating a reality.

Like so many good field generals, he may also suck at a civilian existence. Seems like we are not getting any leaks out of the CIA like we used to though. Now they are all coming from the WH.

An abhorrent situation regarding both coverage and policy.

Hunter was a student on mine, a really good kid. As support to his many friends and family not just in Indiana but from NC to NE, we ask that you help get the word out regarding the “constraining ROE” Obama and Company has in place.

Note the comparison of deaths and wounded between W and 0. Do we have an Amateur in Chief? Another Vietnam? I for one said “Never Again” PLEASE help stop this madness now!

Distribute the statement to as many people in as many ways as you can. Thanks. Freepers can make a difference in November.!

“Keane and Fred Kagan, a military historian, had met with President Bush to recommend that the U.S. adapt a new strategy and recommended Petraeus to lead the effort.

The essence of the strategy was to do what it took to protect civilians.

Some positive trends already were evident in Iraq when Petraeus arrived to command coalition forces in early 2007.”

“In his opening statement in his Senate confirmation hearing, Petraeus vowed to “look very hard” at the directives Gen. Stanley McChrystal put in place to cut down on civilian casualties. McChrystal was following counterinsurgency principles that Petraeus, in large part, pioneered and championed within the U.S. military, principles that led McChrystal to say that the attitudes of the Afghan people will be “strategically decisive” in the war.”
