Obama and Romney: Character Shows
The American Thinker ^ | 7-9-12 | Karin McQuillan

Posted on 07/09/2012 6:19:23 AM PDT by afraidfortherepublic

Character is consistent. Voters say moral character is one of the most important things they look for in choosing the president. The character of a public figure can be hard to discern amidst a fog of self-advertising, hype, and the distorting effects of TV.

~snip~

An unusual personal story gives us insight into Mitt Romney. It is 1996. Mitt Romney is the head of Bain Capital in Boston. One of his employees comes to him, utterly distraught. His 14-year-old daughter snuck out of the house to go to a rave in New York and has been missing for three days. One of her teen friends said he gave her ecstasy and that he last saw her partying under a bridge.

Did Romney offer sympathy and hope? Write a check for a private detective? Wait for the government to solve it? No -- he took responsibility. He took action. He shut down the firm and brought all the employees to New York. For 48 hours, they scoured the streets, going everywhere, asking teenagers if they'd seen the missing girl. Romney called on business associates to send more people to help until they numbered 200. He printed 300,000 fliers and got Duane Reade, one of Bain's success stories, to put fliers in every shopper's bag in their 52 stores. Romney set up a hotline. A broken-off phone call was traced; the girl was discovered in the basement of a house in New Jersey and reunited with her family.

~snip~

Romney shows the missing girl's photo to a teenage girl on the street. She says to him, "No, I haven't seen her, but you're not the first person who came up and asked if I'd seen her. I wish my parents cared enough about me, to do something like this for me."

The second half of this article is about what Obama does for his destitute relatives in Africa -- NOTHING.

FTA: That is why personal stories about Romney and Obama, before they were candidates, are crucial. Voters want to understand what kind of man they are electing.

That is a nice story. Very few people on this forum need to be convinced that Romney is clearly superior to Obama. However these stories of Romney having off shore bank accounts in Switzerland and the Cayman Islands are very troublesome. Already the Democrats are producing and airing attack ads. Unless Romney has a credible and prompt explanation his candidacy will be severely damaged. Many voters ,especially in critical swing states, will not vote for a millionaire who hid his assets to avoid taxes. The story has “legs”. Romney may be forced to withdraw and allow the Republican convention to select a candidate. The country may not survive four more years of the Obama clown parade.

Has Willie Mitty gone out looking for them ???

1. The girl was from a Mormon family..

2. Willie wasnt the only one out looking for her

3. The story has been enlarged a lot with the telling

You may have missed that this story has been posted dozens of times.
The attempt to make Romney some kind of savior here is disgusting.
Did he participate in looking for the run away girl, absolutely, however he was just one of many and the girl returned on her own.
Find the original story not the PR story, you may learn something.
This story as presented is as trumped up as Romney raising from the dead in France when he was in a car accident.

As bad as Obama is and has been, you can not find one American whose job he eliminated AND personally profited from the firing. There are enough Willard job casualties that the Dems can run hundreds of personal stories each day between now and the election, all telling their story how they were outsourced, all the while that Romney made hundreds of Millions of dollars off their misery.

American voters aren’t real savvy on the intricacies of economics, but everyone knows someone that is unemployed today, and few are willing to vote for someone labeled a job killer, completer with names and faces to match up with the misery.

If we don’t end up with a brokered convention and kick Willard to the curb, what we will see is the most expensive campaign in world history, and Obama coming out on top.

There’s thousands home from Iraq

Oh WHOOPS

Your Wee Willie Mitty missed Vietnam...

He dodged the draft and fled to France

Sorry if you think this is a repeat. I had not read it before, and it did not come up on the FR search. Did you read the whole thing? There is much more there than was allowed by our "linking" rules.

Ms McQuillan makes her point at the end: Romney is an entirely different sort of man. He was raised in a stable, loving family. He lives within circles upon circles of warm, committed relationships -- family, church, community, work, public service. His impulse is to help and to rescue -- a friend's missing daughter, our country's bright future.

Which man do you trust with our country?

But, I think it is useless talking to you, or svcw, or any of the other short-sighted Mitt haters on this board. I think I’ll start keeping a list because I’ll know whom to blame when this country is lost to the Socialists and Marxists after Obumbum is re-elected because all of the Mitt-haters stayed home.

Members of my family have fought in all of the wars waged on this continent since 1607. I’ll be embarrassed to meet them on the “other side” and admit that my generation could not keep the Republic. That the great experiment was lost in a tide of Mormon hatred.

Really! I guess keeping people out of work is different. As far as profiting how about the Billions his supporters are making. How about denying the Keystone pipepline so Buffett can make money through his railroad company.

How about all the gubmint regulations putting people out of work. And yes he is profiting or how else do you explain his millionaire bank account since becoming president.

I am no Romney fan but your hatred is unbelievable. Enjoy 4 more years of this regime....

This story is repeated so often because it's about the only one that show Mitt as a caring person.

Someone on his campaign needs to invent a few more particuarly stories about a non-mormon black or hispanic to offset the stories about the folks that lost their jobs to his Bain Capital corporate raiding.

Romney is an entirely different sort of man.
_________________________________________

Yes TOO different for me to desire him as my president...

Hes a liberal, as different from a Conservative as night is from day..

This is suppose to have happened in 1996

In 1994 Willard was promising in his US Senate campaign to not overturn Roe V Wade the abortion law which led to the slaughter of millions of little girls, Mormon and Catholic...

Yes “his impulse is to help and to rescue”

He wanted to “help and to rescue” women to murder their unborn daughters (and sons)

Wheres your thread on that “nice story”

For “our country’s bright future” Willie mitty wanted women to have to right to abort their babies...

Even underage girls...

In 2002 when he was running for MASS Gov, Willie said that if parents refused to give permission for under age girls to murder their unborn then those girls were to get a judge to over rule the parental rights...

So much for your “stable, loving family”...”circles upon circles of warm, committed relationships — family, church, community, work, public” ...

Willie was anxious for the STATE to be the parents...

But drag out any old trumped up story in desparation...

Maybe you’ll find one about the soup kitchen Willie sponsors in downtown anywhere...

Gosh there has to be a hospital he built somewheres..

and of course theres that ongoing missing childrens agency that he founded and frequently gives his time and money to...

Gosh all the hours he spent in New Hampshire combing the lake and beating the bushes for some lost frightened child...

Why he even had all his boys and their children out “to help and to rescue”

Trust Willie with my country ???

Ask Seamus if hes even trustworthy with a dog...

That means that it sounded extremely mean-spirited of you to suggest that he only looked for the lost child because she was from a Mormon family -- that if she had been from another religion that he wouldn't have bothered. Isn't that what you meant?

Although Romney was not my first choice among the potential candidates, he's the only one we have left at this time. FOUR of my forebears, from both sides of my family, (count them) carried the name Benjamin Franklin, so I have always had a soft spot for ol' Ben's wisdom:

We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately

Personally profited? How about personally profiting from the millions who've lost their jobs because of Obama's intentionally nefarious taxing and regulatory policies? Where the "personal profit" factor comes in is the culture of dependency he's grown since coming to power in '09. Creating a mass addiction for government freebies and entitlements pays off handsomely for a liberal politician seeking reelection.

Well, I didn’t mean to suggest that she’s Catholic. I picked “Catholic” because it is the first thing that came to mind, probably because I’m Catholic. I just thought her comment was breathtakingly crass. I mistakenly thought that I could shock her into recognizing how mean and narrow-minded her remark seemed. It didn’t work.

I could have said Presbyterian, Lutheran, Baptist, or Pentacostal, or Jewish, or atheist, or Muslim. The girl was the daughter of an employee. I don’t think her religion played a part in his thinking. And what if it did? This whole conversation reminds me of the Elizabeth Smart threads where (supposedly intelligent) FReepers accused her father of all kinds of unspeakable sins and crimes when she was missing.

Don’t people usually help an acquaintance over a stranger?

Disagreeing with his policies is one thing, but this is uncalled for. As a parent, I cannot image the panic that family felt and if it were me, would want everyone I know plus everyone they know out looking.

Stick with your hero then…doesn’t he think children are a punishment? No need to worry about looking for a lost morman or any other child in his world.

When Philip testified to his friend Nathanael about Jesus Christ, Nathanael replied, “Can any good thing come from Nazareth?” Similarly, no matter what Mitt or any other Mormon might do, these haters would reply, “Can any good thing come from a Mormon?”

"Christians— those poor, miserable priests brother Brigham was speaking about—some of them are the biggest whoremasters there are on the earth, and at the same time preaching righteousness to the children of men. The poor devils, they could not get up here and preach an oral discourse, to save themselves from hell; they are preaching their fathers' sermons —preaching sermons that were written a hundred years before they were born. ...You may get a Methodist priest to pour water on you, or sprinkle it on you, and baptize you face foremost, or lay you down the other way, and whatever mode you please, and you will be damned with your priest.

- Apostle Heber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses, v. 5, p. 89

Prophet John Taylor (1808 - 1887):

"Christianity...is a perfect pack of nonsense...the devil could not invent a better engine to spread his work than the Christianity of the nineteenth century."

- Prophet John Taylor, Journal of Discourses, v. 6, p. 167

"Where shall we look for the true order or authority of God? It cannot be found in any nation of Christendom."

- Prophet John Taylor, Journal of Discourses, v. 10, p. 127

"What! Are Christians ignorant? Yes, as ignorant of the things of God as the brute beast."

- Prophet John Taylor, Journal of Discourses, v. 13, p. 225

"What does the Christian world know about God? Nothing... Why so far as the things of God are concerned, they are the veriest fools; they know neither God nor the things of God."

- Prophet John Taylor, Journal of Discourses, v. 13, p. 225

Apostle Orson Pratt (1811 - 1881):

"Both Catholics and Protestants are nothing less than the ‘whore of Babylon' whom the Lord denounces by the mouth of John the Revelator as having corrupted all the earth by their fornications and wickedness. Any person who shall be so corrupt as to receive a holy ordinance of the Gospel from the ministers of any of these apostate churches will be sent down to hell with them, unless they repent."

- Apostle Orson Pratt, The Seer, p. 255

"But as there has been no Christian Church on the earth for a great many centuries past, until the present century, the people have lost sight of the pattern that God has given according to which the Christian Church should be established, and they have denominated a great variety of Christian Churches ... But there has been a long apostasy, during which the nations have been cursed with apostate churches in great abundance"

- Apostle Orson Pratt, Journal of Discourses, v. 18, p. 172
“This class of men, calling themselves Christian, uniting with the various forms of the pagan religion, adopting many of their ceremonies and institutions, became very popular, and finally some of the pagans embraced Christianity and were placed, as it were, upon the throne, and what they termed Christianity became very popular indeed. How long has this order of things existed, this dreadful apostacy, this class of people that pronounced themselves Zion, or Christians, without any of the characteristics of Zion? It has existed for some sixteen or seventeen centuries. It has spread itself and grown and gone into the four quarters of the earth. It is the great ecclesiastical power that is spoken of by the revelator John, and called by him the most corrupt and most wicked of all the powers of the earth, under the name of spiritual Babylon, or in other words Babel, which signifies confusion. This great and corrupt power is also represented by John as presenting a golden cup to the nations, full of all manner of filthiness and abominations.”

- Apostle Orson Pratt, Journal of Discourses, v. 14, p. 346

“But as there has been no Christian Church on the earth for a great many centuries past, until the present century, the people have lost sight of the pattern that God has given according to which the Christian Church should be established, and they have denominated a great variety of people Christian Churches, because they profess to be. They say, "We have built chapels unto the name of the Lord; we call our Churches Christian Churches, they are called the Church of Christ, St. John's Church, St. Paul's Church, St. Peter's Church, and after others of the ancient Apostles;" and one who had never studied the pattern which God has given of the Christian Church would almost really believe that they are Christian Churches. But there has been a long apostacy, during which the nations have been cursed with apostate churches in great abundance, and they are represented in the revelations of St. John as a woman sitting upon a scarlet colored beast, having a golden cup in her hand, full of filthiness and abominations, full of the wine of the wrath of her fornication; that in her forehead there was a name written—"Mystery, Babylon the Great, the mother of harlots." This kind of a church has existed in great abundance, for as John the Revelator says, she was to have her dominion upon many waters, and she was to make all nations drunken with the wine of the wrath of her fornication.”

- Apostle Orson Pratt, Journal of Discourses, v. 18, p. 172

“Q. After the Church of Christ fled from earth to heaven, what was left? A. A set of wicked Apostates, murderers, and idolaters, who, after having made war with the saints, and overcome them, and destroyed them out of the earth, were left to follow the wicked imaginations of their own corrupt hearts, and to build up churches by human authority, and to follow after the cunning craftiness of uninspired men; having no Apostle, Prophet, or Revelator to inquire of God for them: and thus, because of wickedness, the Church, and Priesthood, and gifts, and ordinances and blessings of the everlasting Gospel, were taken from the earth, and reserved in heaven until the fulness of times, when it was predicted that they should again be restored among men to continue until the end should come.”

- Apostle Orson Pratt, The Seer, Chapter 16, p. 205

Prophet Wilford Woodruff (1807 - 1898):

"The Gospel of modern Christendom shuts up the Lord, and stops all communication with Him. I want nothing to do with such a Gospel, I would rather prefer the Gospel of the dark ages, so called"

- Prophet Wilford Woodruff, Journal of Discourses, v. 2, p. 196

Apostle George Q. Cannon (1827 - 1901):

"After the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was organized, there were only two churches upon the earth. They were known respectively as the Church of the Lamb of God and Babylon. The various organizations which are called churches throughout Christendom, though differing in their creeds and organizations, have one common origin. They all belong to Babylon."

- Apostle George Q. Cannon, Gospel Truth, p. 324
Believers in the doctrines of modern Christendom will reap damnation to their souls.”

- Apostle Bruce R. McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, see pp. 45-46
--------------

"...the Book of Mormon remains secure, unchanged and unchangeable, ...But with the Bible it was not and is not so....it was once in the sole and exclusive care and custody of an abominable organization [Christianity], founded by the devil himself, likened prophetically unto a great whore, whose great aim and purpose was to destroy the souls of men in the name of religion. In these hands it ceased to be the book it once was."

- Apostle Bruce R. McConkie, The Joseph Smith Translation, pp. 12, 13
---------------

Brother Taylor has just said that the religions of the day were hatched in hell. The eggs were laid in hell, hatched on its borders, and then kicked on to the earth."

- Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v. 6, p. 176
---------------

"With a regard to true theology, a more ignorant people never lived than the present so-called Christian world."

- Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v. 8, p. 199
---------------

"The Christian world, so-called, are heathens as to the knowledge of the salvation of God"

- Prophet Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v. 8, p. 171

**********************************************

The mormons using hate speech (and in this case using the words of the Bible to do so) to bash us either are too young to have heard the hate speech against Christians 20-30 years ago, or choose to ignore it in order to fall in line with the "new improved PC mormonism that demands to be seen as Christian".

Have no doubt. These mormons are acting in concert to force Romney on the country to aid and abet mormonism, NOT to aid the USA.

Romney, and possibly many of these FR mormonism defenders have taken sworn this oath in a mormon temple:

“You and each of you covenant and promise before God, angels, and these witnesses at this altar, that you do accept the Law of Consecration as contained in the Doctrine and Covenants, in that you do consecrate yourselves, your time, talents, and everything with which the Lord has blessed you, or with which he may bless you, to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, for the building up of the Kingdom of God on the earth and for the establishment of Zion.

I’m not voting for a pastor. My Baptist grandmother was sure all Catholics were hell bound even though her lifelong best friend was one. She feared John Kennedy not for his politics, but his religion.

I know many, many Mormons. They are people of good character.

The other option in November is a narcissistic atheist socialist who kisses Muslim rear.
