Former MO Governor Sentenced For Laundering Funds to Democrats

Former Missouri Democrat Governor Roger Wilson was sentenced today for misusing money to make political donations. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported, via Free Republic:

Former Missouri Gov. Roger Wilson was sentenced to probation in federal court here Monday for misusing money to make political donations.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Mary Ann Medler’s sentence was expected. Wilson faced probation to six months in prison under federal sentencing guidelines. His lawyer, Robert Haar, had asked for probation, citing his long public service record.

After a lengthy investigation, Wilson was indicted in April on a misdemeanor insurance charge for laundering a total $8,000 in campaign contributions from Missouri Employers Mutual Co., a state-created workers’ compensation company based in Columbia, to the Missouri Democratic Party through a St. Louis law firm, Herzog Crebs. Former Herzog Crebs partner Ed Griesedieck III was also indicted.

They got a long way to go to catch Illinois.

Don’t they have 4 of the last 5 with jail time?

“His lawyer, Robert Haar, had asked for probation, citing his long public service record.”

So if I worked for a bank as a bank teller and stole some of the banks money, can my lawyer ask for probation citing my long record as a bank teller?

Great article. Thanks for posting. Anyone who is somewhat familiar with the political situation in Egypt knows that this confrontation between the MB and the military is inevitable. If we were smarter, we would have supported the military sooner.

Now it appears that bloodshed and instability are in the offing unless the MB and the military can come to some understanding. One would have thought that this was done before the MB announced its decision to reconvene parliament.

I wasn't aware of how tenuous the financial situation was and the role the Saudis have been playing behind the scenes. If the Saudis cut off funding/loans, I wonder who will fill the vacuum. The mention of IMF loans is scary enough. And such loans don't come without strings attached. Egypt is in a precarious situation, which doesn't bode well for the region and in particular, Israel.

Wilson faced probation to six months in prison under federal sentencing guidelines. His lawyer, Robert Haar, had asked for probation, citing his long public service record.

This argument reminds of the Menendez brothers' defense. Recall they killed their parents with a shotgun, and then argued in court for mercy since they had no parents.

Wilson is found guilty of ripping off the public and then tries to defend himself with his years of public service.

Only in America...
