Almost 50% of Americans on government assistance

Posted on 07/09/2012 7:43:54 PM PDT by MaryLou1

How can Romney beat Obama when almost half of the country is on government assistance?

The poll numbers amazed me-how can Obama be that close (or even beat) Romney in the polls?

Because the takers won't vote to cut their aid-why would they?

Illegals who don't have to show ID will take those numbers over the top and Obama will win by default.

reference source for the statistics: http://money.cnn.com/2012/02/07/news/economy/government_assistance/index.htm

Sometimes personal dignity has it's price when a person never valued it in the first place

p.s. this country was founded by people who rejected government control-how dare they take a country that restored and fought for self reliance and turn it into a nation of slaves?

The slaves on the plantation were controlled too, but they had their food and lodging paid for-and guess what? they didn't like it, they wanted freedom.

Imagine that!

I didn't forget Wallace at all. The fact that Wallace captured as many states as he did meant that either Nixon would win, or that Wallace would throw it into the House.

There is a little bit of history that wasn't known until a few years ago.

During the campaign, Humphrey stated that if the election went into the House, he would refuse to negotiate with Wallace, and he challenged Nixon to make the same pledge. Nixon merely laughed at him. Everyone knew that if Wallace captured enough electoral votes to throw it into the House, Nixon would have been on the first plane to Montgomery to make a deal.

What Humphrey didn't know was that if Wallace made it happen, Mayor Daley of Chicago was going to take Humphrey by the scruff of the neck -- with Lyndon Johnson's blessings -- take the next available flight to Montgomery, strap on his kneepads, and give Wallace whatever it took to get the presidency. That would have been something to see. Humphrey would have had to sell out the entire civil rights revolution to get the presidency.

I don’t think Obama wins. Quite the contrary, I think the GOP-e is putting him back into office by running Romney.

There was a time ~ 6 years back ~ when we had a shortage of RNs. Then the Great Obama Recession happened and all the elective surgery was put off for later ~ and there went the jobs.

My niece discovered as she was graduating with her RN that there were no open RN Positions in the entire state of California.

The daughter in law, who is an RN, in a major East Coast facility reported that they too had no open positions.

Someplace somebody has an opening ~ but it's not like it was. For one thing no one is offering to pay back your tuition just to get you into a cardiac surgery suite.

Over in DC where the nurses are all unionized no one has threatened to strike for a very long time.

Some of us actually care for our parents and look after them. Some of us let the government do it for them.

When did I ever claim it was ‘suddenly’ welfare. It’s always been welfare.

I find it funny that it stops being ‘welfare’ when you start getting checks. Odd that. ;)

I’m a private school teacher who would love to be able to afford to get married, and buy a house. I share an apartment when I’m not home looking after my family.

On my own dime.

How ‘bout you sport?

“We are stuck with the debt, payments will be made, Congress will live to see another day.”

What is going to happen is that the government is going to try to inflate the payments away so that your money is worthless.

Thanks boomers! Good thing you stuck it to the man!

Tell me if I'm right...So according to you, Ma an Pa in the Texas panhandle and Aunt Betty in Arkansas who all worked decades, where tens of hundreds of thousands of dollars from their incomes were confiscated by the government, are nothing but fat welfare cheats who are not entitled to their money taken by government over the decades?

Is that what your suggesting Mr. Breckenridege?

Please don’t hate me. I enlisted at 17 and served four years. After a nine month break, I hired on with the DOD. I spent my whole career with them. While employed, I went to night school on the GI Bill. I am retired from the DOD. I’ve been on the gummint dole most of my life. Please don’t hate me.

You gave your life for your country. Wish I could say the same. :)

The deal is you give your life, and your country should take care of you. I don’t include vets in with that, you earned every penny of your pension.

Is it right to steal from other people because other people steal from you?

Hey, here’s the deal. You steal from us, we’re going to break the chain, finally, and kill social security. If it means paying out the boomers and grandfathering them so that they steal every dime they can before the lights turn out, then so be it.

But I’m not going to do that to my kids, what you are doing to us. It ends here with us.

(Social Security) It’s always been welfare.

So all these old people never contributed to SS?

Banner Box - Unemployment rate for RNs is 5.5% - which many consider to be full employment. An RN, especially with experience that wants to work can find work. The point of my comment was how these two are cheating us all.

They are entitled to their money.

They are not entitled to mine. There’s a difference.

hmm ~ only reason to inflate your money is you don't have any assets to liquidate.

The United States of America has trillions in assets.

What about our retired Military. Their pensions are adding to the deficit. Are they on the Public Dole too?

The RNs have the unemployment rate. The employers don't. They don't need to hire and they aren't hiring.

Remember the 'shortate'? It disappeared! The Philippines are backed up to the gunnels with unemployed RNs, as is Indonesia and other places that were filling our needs.
