A hearing will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. at the U.S. District Court in Las Cruces, N.M., a spokesperson close to a family of arrested New Mexico gun dealers has informed Gun Rights Examiner. Rick Reese and wife Terri, along with sons Ryin and Remington, are facing accusations of knowingly selling firearms to cartel straw purchasers, money laundering and related charges.
The ordeal of this family, including the denial of bail for almost a full year for the husband and sons, the seizure of their assets and property precluding a properly-funded defense, and the denial by the presiding judge of their ability to coordinate that defense with one attorney, have been the subject of numerous updates in this column as well as in the latest Rights Watch column for GUNS Magazine.
There is a motion in front of Judge [Robert C.] Brack to dismiss the whole case for outrageous conduct by the United States of America, an email sent to a close group of supporters related. If at all possible please attend the hearings! Those of you who cannot be there, PLEASE remember the date and time in your prayers for us!! The next motion that day is to unseal the file so the general public will be aware of the case.
In a related development, another family supporter has created an online petition for the Federal Government and ATF to drop all charges and release the family.
If you cannot attend the hearing, the appeal asks, please sign the petition. Even if you will attend the hearing, please sign the petition! You can email the link to as many friends and family members as you'd like. This petition will be presented on Thursday. Help us bring the family home!

It’s illegal to knowingly make straw sales of firearms. There has been lots said about not making new gun laws, instead just enforcing the ones we have, here on FR over the years.
These charges if explored fully at trial could lead to subpeonas of AG Holder's Fast and Furious scandal, showing that this family did less unknowingly than AG Holder did knowingly.
Smells like an opportunity to me!
When do they arrest the AG.
Hopefully soon, but I doubt that.
But since when did that become justification for hamstringing the defendant's capability to defend himself at trial?
It’s not justified, they got screwed.
How many more examples of this communists run Federal Government do we need? This includes the Court.
Are you assuming that they actually did knowingly sell to straw buyers?
It came out in one of Terry’s court appearances that after one sale she had actually notified local law enforcement because she thought there was something fishy going on.
I think they probably had a good idea who they were dealing with, but if someone shows the proper paper work, what can prevent it? I thought it suspicious though, that she removed their stores name and address from the ammunition boxes she sold.
I thought the explanation that they had problems with people out shooting in the desert and leaving their trashed boxes there to be plausible.
The question would be, did they order ammunition with the addresses on the boxes after a certain point?
I don’t know, either way, they got screwed.
“But since when did that become justification for hamstringing the defendant’s capability to defend himself at trial? “
Someone said it earlier, we have the drug war to thank for this little gem...(don’t forget the RICO laws also).
I believe if the government had enough evidence they would have already been charged and headed to trial. I think they have been waiting for them to plead guilty like the people from Columbus did.
I really don’t know what happened but I wouldn’t doubt if he was set up, I don’t know anyone who is as anti-government as Rick and he was very vocal about it.
I remember asking a tire dealer once how he could sell tires to people that we knew were drug dealers and he said he had no qualms about it. So knowing that people might seem fishy doesn’t preclude some honest people from doing business with them. I’m glad that I don’t have to deal with retail, especially in a small town where you know so much and wonder why the cops know so little.
