Cat found buried alive in concrete in Arizona; rescuer alleges religious harassment (from FLDS)

A live cat was found half-buried in concrete in Arizona, an act that the man who rescued it believes to be a threatening message from a pro-polygamy religious group, according to local reports.

The kitten was found encased in solid concrete inside a metal tube in Colorado City, Ariz., a major center for the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a breakaway Mormon sect whose members practice polygamy.

In previous incidents, dead cats have been left on ex-FLDS member Isaac Wyler’s property, according to Andrew Chatwin, who discovered the trapped feline while he was building a horse shelter at Wyler’s home....

Mangled and emaciated but still breathing, the freed feline was taken to an animal sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, where it died a few days later.

Both Wyler and Chatwin have spoken publicly against the church and its former controversial leader, Warren Jeffs....

Hey Freedom, did you know that FLDS/LDS “Prophet” Joseph Smith ripped off the plan of salvation from Emmanuel Swedenborg’s book “A Treatise on Heaven and Hell” ?

Actually, I did know that.

IMHO Mormonism has its roots as a man’s club concocted by Smith with a mixture of the Bible for plausible deniability, Masonic rituals for mystic flavor, and Islam for sex and power.

For those who think that Mormons are “nice people”, I don’t deny that they are out there. At least as long as you are doing what they think is right (and/or you are a potential convert). But if you don’t do what the leadership says, especially if you are a woman, you’re on your own.

In my opinion, those that use the color of religious authority to serve their own needs for power and control can go to hell. Yes, hell.

JMHO.

“[The officer] kind of chuckled and laughed a bit, and then he said that if it was up to him, he’d just throw dirt over [the cat],” Chatwin said. “And this is coming from a city marshal that’s in the FLDS Church.”

Having dealt with the FLDS often, I have some insight into this.

First, anyone who speaks out against the LDS/FLDS (either group) is said to have a ‘vendetta’ against ‘the Church’.

Second, considering how the FLDS/LDS (both groups) treat ‘apostates’, anger is not an uncommon reaction. Neither is speaking out

Third, while this theoretically could be staged, it is also completely in character and historically consistent with things the FLDS have done , things I have seen in person and things that have happened to other ex-FLDS that I know (and this is minor compared to other things I know of).

So unless you can source some valid information that would lead to the conclusion this is staged, then there is no reason to doubt this man’s accounts.

And many of them are, sadly. They have placed their faith in ‘the Church’ to save them, and in Joseph Smith - not Jesus Christ.

My disdain is for those that use the LDS church “priesthood” key for their own power and control. Displeasing them means displeasing God. It is sick.

The ones that walk around with blinders on, I feel sorry for.

Thankfully God is in charge of the final judgement, not I.

Well, since every ‘worthy’ male over the age of 12 is a ‘priesthood’ holder, that would be a lot of LDS. It kinda goes with the territory and their view of the ‘priesthood’, the men consider themselves powerful, with the only ‘authority’ and have the only power to raise their wives in the resurrection. That kind of arrogance breeds abuse and I have seen it in boys as young as 12.

I do think that most of the leadership know the problems and either ignore them or don’t care because of the power they hold. Romney is on the fast track to becoming a ‘general authority’ like his uncle.

I notice the only people getting punished anymore are those who obey the law.

Those who disobey: like illegal aliens, thugs who beat the hell out of the neighborhood watch, Muslims stoning Christians, homosexuals who threaten Brad Pitt’s mom, Congress passing laws unConstitutionally, President’s making unConstitutional appointments/ignoring court rulings are all getting away with it.

If I were a lib I’d be laughing and smiling and flipping everyone the bird too. No one is lifting a finger or giving a pathetic squeal to stop them.....

So unless you can source some valid information that would lead to the conclusion this is staged, then there is no reason to doubt this man’s accounts.

In a justice system based on reason, keeping an open mind is in keeping with innocent until proven guilty. It's an accusation only.

Yes, it is an accusation only, but it is in keeping with previous patterns of behavior.

They have placed their faith in ‘the Church’ to save them, and in Joseph Smith - not Jesus Christ.

"He (Joseph Smith) is the man through whom God has spoken... yet I would not like to call him a savior, though in a certain capacity he was a god to us, and is to the nations of the earth, and will continue to be."
 - Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses 8:321

"You call us fools; but the day will be, gentlemen and ladies, whether you belong to this Church or not, when you will prize brother Joseph Smith as the Prophet of the Living God, and look upon him as a god..."
- Herber C. Kimball, Journal of Discourses 5:88

"If we get our salvation, we shall have to pass by him [Joseph Smith]; if we enter our glory, it will be through the authority he has received. We cannot get around him [Joseph Smith]"
- (as quoted in 1988 Melchizedek Priesthood Study Guide, p. 142)

There is "no salvation without accepting Joseph Smith. If Joseph Smith was verily a prophet, and if he told the truth...no man can reject that testimony without incurring the most dreadful consequences, for he cannot enter the kingdom of God"
- Joseph Fielding Smith, Doctrines of Salvation, vol. 1, p.190

"I tell you, Joseph holds the keys, and none of us can get into the celestial kingdom without passing by him. We have not got rid of him, but he stands there as the sentinel, holding the keys of the kingdom of God; and there are many of them beside him. I tell you, if we get past those who have mingled with us, and know us best, and have a right to know us best, probably we can pass all other sentinels as far as it is necessary, or as far as we may desire. But I tell you, the pinch will be with those that have mingled with us, stood next to us, weighed our spirits, tried us, and proven us: there will be a pinch, in my view, to get past them. The others, perhaps, will say, If brother Joseph is satisfied with you, you may pass. If it is all right with him, it is all right with me. Then if Joseph shall say to a man, or if brother Brigham say to a man, I forgive you your sins, "Whosoever sins ye remit they are remitted unto them;" if you who have suffered and felt the weight of transgression—if you have generosity enough to forgive the sinner, I will forgive him: you cannot have more generosity than I have. I have given you power to forgive sins, and when the Lord gives a gift, he does not take it back again."
 - Orson Hyde, Journal of Discourses, Vol. 6, p.154-155

"It is because the Lord called Joseph Smith that salvation is again available to mortal men.... If it had not been for Joseph Smith and the restoration, there would be no salvation,"
 - Bruce McConkie, Mormon Doctrine, p. 396, 670

They succeeded in killing Joseph, but he had finished his work.
He was a servant of God, and gave us the Book of Mormon.
He said the Bible was right in the main, but, through the translators and others, many precious portions were suppressed, and several other portions were wrongly translated; and now his testimony is in force, for he has sealed it with his blood.
As I have frequently told them, no man in this dispensation will enter the courts of heaven, without the approbation of the Prophet Joseph Smith, Jun.
Who has made this so?
Have I?
Have this people?
Have the world?
No; but the Lord Jehovah has decreed it.
If I ever pass into the heavenly courts, it will be by the consent of the Prophet Joseph.
If you ever pass through the gates into the Holy City, you will do so upon his certificate that you are worthy to pass.
Can you pass without his inspection?
No; neither can any person in this dispensation, which is the dispensation of the fulness of times.
In this generation, and in all the generations that are to come, everyone will have to undergo the scrutiny of this Prophet.
They say that they killed Joseph, and they will yet come with their hats under their arms and bend to him; but what good will it do them, unless they repent?
They can come in a certain way and find favor, but will they?
 Brigham Young,

--JOURNAL OF DISCOURSES, vol. 8, p. 224

DeGrimston attempted to restart the Process Church several times, but he could never replace his original following.
Following DeGrimston's removal, the group underwent a significant change in orientation and renamed itself the Foundation Faith of the Millennium.
In 1980 the name of the organization was changed to The Foundation Faith of God.
Further changes in both name and focus followed, and the organization eventually became the Best Friends Animal Society, which is now one of America's best known animal welfare rescue groups.
Later on, many of these same believers went on to support Gilles Deleuze in his leadership of the Anti-Oedipal movement of 1968.

I don’t know...it’s not being said, but I know cat behaviour pretty well and I suspect the cat ingested a large amount of cement from licking and trying to free himself. Then again anyone who works with cats for a living should come to the same conclusion but there may be nothing that could be done about it; I simply don’t know there.

So I don’t NECESSARILY think the shelter workers “finished the cat off” if that’s what you’re thinking, as much as the cat may have already been doomed.

I had a hard time watching the video.

You could tell this cat was in misery. Cats meow only to humans and it was almost as if the cat was saying “Please, someone help me”.

God called this cat home. He told the cat “No one will hurt you now. You’re safe with me”.

I’d like to take a baseball bat to the assclown that did this. I really would.
