Tide turns against Law of the Sea Treaty
The Hill ^ | July 11, 2012 | By Julian Pecquet

The Obama administration's all-out push to join the United Nations international maritime treaty is just four votes short of being doomed after two more senators this week added their names to the list of lawmakers who have vowed to oppose it.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and Sen. Charles Grassley (R-Iowa) are the two latest senators to sign on to the letter, The Hill has learned, bringing the total to 30. Treaties need a two-thirds majority to pass in the Senate, meaning 34 signatures would effectively kill it.

It only needs 2/3 of senators present to pass.
Thank you!

...the 9 border stations being closed will allow the pre-election rioters to stream into the country so Marshall law can be declared.

The nine "border stations" had nothing to do with the border; they were all in the interior. Closest to the border (400 mi) was the Amarillo station.

Pssssst! It's "martial", not "Marshall".

If these rumors are true, then the opposition is up to 32. They need two more votes.
It doesn't matter if they aren't present when the vote comes up.
See reply 20.

So we have the potential of all these "stand up guys" simply not showing up when it comes time to vote and they can then truthfully claim "I was against this treaty".

They need to formalize their intent to object.
Executive Calendar

When a notice of intent to object is given to the appropriate leader, or their designee, and such notice is submitted for inclusion in the Congressional Record and the Senate Executive Calendar, or following the objection to a unanimous consent to proceeding to, and, or disposition of, matters relating to nominations and treaties on their behalf, it shall be placed in the section of the Senate Executive Calendar entitled “Notice of Intent to Object ”. (S. Res. 28, 112th Congress)

See 23. The same applies with the small arms treaty.

Don't forget the importance of this either... When a notice of intent to object is given to the appropriate leader, or their designee, and such notice is submitted for inclusion in the Congressional Record and the Senate Executive Calendar...

It could be ratified due to one person simply not doing their job properly.

Where in H is Rob Portman of Ohio, the so-called VP nominee?

Lugar of Indiana has been a champion of this pos. He got beat by Tea Party In Indiana but he still votes until January.
