Randall County grand jurors indicted two Amarillo siblings Wednesday on murder and aggravated robbery charges in the death of a 26-year-old burglary suspect shot during a June home invasion.

Jessica Medina, 26, and her brother, Timothy Francisco Lopez, 29, were each indicted on both charges. Randall County Criminal District Attorney James Farren said both participated with Gabriel Castillo, 26, in a June 8 home invasion at 2918 S. Highland St. Castillo’s body was found in the 2400 block of Rule Street, where police said he died of a gunshot wound to his right hip.

In a criminal complaint last month, Medina told police she saw Lopez shoot Castillo. If convicted, Medina and Lopez each face five to 99 years or life in prison.

Shortly after noon June 8, officers found Castillo lying in a driveway on Rule Street.

Earlier that day, a caller told dispatchers two masked men attempted to steal a safe from an office in the backyard of 2918 S. Highland St., when the office owner confronted the men, authorities said.

One of the two men pointed a gun at the office owner, who drew his own pistol and fired it as officers were en route, police said. The men sped away in a vehicle driven by a third person, police said.

Shortly afterward, officers responded to Rule Street, where Castillo was found not breathing. Castillo died there, authorities said.

The unidentified burglary victim from 2918 S. Highland St. was questioned and released pending further investigation, police said.

At first I thought they were the victims of the robbery and were being indicted, they were involved in the robbery.

Who writes this stuff?

Agreed...what is wrong with reporters. They FAIL! There is nothing coherent about this story, I sometimes give them a little leeway when it is a breaking story. This is from June?
Reading the story, it is very unclear!

Frankly, I think it was deliberate, to get people to think that those who shot the criminal were charged.
